I bought a very old ebike for a couple of bucks. What now ?

Bonjour from Mulhouse, France !
TL,DR : I bought a very old Flyer C8, and I don't really know how to use it.
Until today, I was riding a rental ebike, for a rather small fee, due to my city concil's help. But some %§#@&X... decided that the monthly fee would go up 20% and, if I want to save a few pennis, I can choose a yearly rental plan and pay 550 euros (ca. USD 640) right on the spot !!!
So tomorrow, I'll give them back their bike and cancelled the rental contract.
And I bought a second-hand ebike. An old one. I mean an OOOOOOOLD one. I only found out on the Flyer's website that it is older than 2015 (their support archives only go back 2015). But it was less than USD200 on Le Bon Coin (a kind of french Craig's List), available less than 15 miles from my place,, so I jumped in.
From what I saw on the internet (an on the keyring's tag), it's a Flyer C8, made in Switzerland. An that is about everything I know about it.
To give you an idea of the age of the beast, here is the command panel :
Such high technology,.... scary, eh ? Even back in 2015, the Flyer ebikes had a panel with a small LCD screen, with current speed and battery state.
Mechanically, it's A-OK : brakes, transmission, wheels and tires, lighting,... I just had a couple of kilometers with it, I only had good surprises (but one). I might buy a new seat, softer for my big derrière, but that's basically all

OK, let's be honest, there is one hickup. And for that kind of price and age, that was not really a surprise. I began a charge cycle yesterday, I found it this morning with 5 LEDs on (100%, I guess), I rode for about 5 kilometers (3 miles ?) and the LEDs show it empty.
Of course, I'll buy a new one. It won't be an original Panasonic (USD 300-500), but a compatible one, made of pure chinesium, for a bit less than USD 100.
But I wrote all this to ask for the kind help of the good people of r/ebikes : I have no doc, not even an idea of the year it was built, not a clue about what the command panel LEDs are trying to tell me. Would anyone know where I could search ? Or, by miracle would there be an owner or former owner of a Flyer C8, here ?
Any ideas, information, suggestions will be more than welcome.
Take care, ride safe,
François.

I also found a manual for 2009 and yours is older than that. So you can at least narrow it down to pre-2009.

There is a manual for the Flyer C series on their site under 2015. It looks similar from what I can see.

Luckily ebikes have boomed and for as much evolution there's also been a lot of reverse engineering. Finding suitable upgrades that can act as replacements would just boil down to connections. I'd be curious to see how it behaves with a new battery and then from there you could work on newer components.
Also congrats on making the best of your situation and going into this situation with the best outlook! Looking forward to see where this goes! You got this friend!

Never had that ebike.
I had a 2012 BH ebike with a Panasonic motor and battery (they looked similar to yours). Display looked as basic as yours as well. The Panasonic motor lasted 12yrs daily use (I think it probably hit 60,000 km but it had no odometer).
You still might find parts online - this battery is the wrong voltage but it’s from the same era so they might exist. Flyer is listed as one of the associated brands. It would probably fit my old 2012 ebike (if I still had it).
If your bike has low mileage you still might get many yrs out of it if you can source a new battery or have the cells replaced. I had the cells replaced in my old battery.
Even though it might look old not much has necessarily changed in how the bike functions. My new ebike has a fancier display and it’s own app but still rides pretty much the same as my old 2012 ebike.

Damn it’s got that Y2K chromium aesthetic. This thing has got to be almost as old as I am hahaha. Maybe try using a VPN to google more about the bike. I’ve found that doing that when I’m researching things like product docs and parts listings helps me to discover links and webpages that are region locked.

Give us an update with the new battery Pierre

Will do.
But it might take 2 or 3 weeks.

Pretty cool and no one will steal it.
