StetsonTuba8@reddit
How much is the emergency landing package on Ryanair? Surely that can't be cheap
Last_Till_2438@reddit
You pay extra for legroom, but that doesn't guarentee a slide. No slides on the wings.
Agitated-Zebra4334@reddit
What is the fee to use the emergency slide?
Last_Till_2438@reddit
If you look at the wings, you'll see the passengers who didn't pay extra for a slide.
As the plane wasn't burning, they didn't have to break their legs jumping to safety in the dark. There will be a next time though.
juko43@reddit
It only comes with the deluxe tickets. If you cheaped out you have to wait on the plane for deluxe pass holders to use the slides 1st, then they remove the slides and you can climb down somehow

We prefer to say 'convenience charge' here at Ryanair.

My friend was on that flight!! She had no idea why they were evacuated and had to find out from the news articles. She had to go out onto the wing and then jump down.

As others said, she didn't need to know why they need to leave. She needed to leave and let the crew sort everything else out. There is plenty of time for a proper explanation later.
Erameline@reddit
Oh, 100% agreed. Safety regulations, especially about fire in planes, are written in blood
Going_and_coming@reddit
Must have been terrifying. But in an emergency, it is better just get the evacuation done, and explain later.
The pilots was busy commiúnicating with ATC etc.
I believe she will get a compensation of 250 euro for the delay.

EI-ILN, delivered brandnew only 12 days ago from Boeing in Seattle to Ryanair in Dublin
bergler82@reddit
ah yes, the quality built airplanes from Boeing ... downvote me to hell IDC, the 777-300ER was the last good Boeing.
747ER@reddit
The 737MAX statistically has fewer mechanical failures per flight than any other airliner; it is more reliable than any other. Whether you feel like the plane is unreliable or not doesn’t affect the actual, measured Dispatch Reliability Rate data that has been collected from all aircraft for decades.
soniczi@reddit
Where can that be found? I find it quite shocking the A320NEO is less reliable than the MAX, but hey, if that's the case I'm not gonna argue with facts...
747ER@reddit
You can search for the Dispatch Reliability Rate, which is how operators compare the reliability of aircraft (measured by how many flights are cancelled or delayed due to unscheduled maintenance, against how many aren’t).
Independent-Mix-5796@reddit
You don't give the 787 enough credit. Despite its rocky start with the delays and the battery issues, the 787 is groundbreaking in its usage of composites and its revolutionary wing design.
The 787 is so revolutionary, in fact, that it spurred Airbus to completely scrap its original A330 upgrade plans and create a clean-sheet design in the A350 (XWB).
DT5105@reddit
The carbon-fibre fuselage on the Boeing 787 offers poorer natural lightning protection than aluminium. They claim the issue has been fully mitigated through embedded metallic meshes though...
bouncypete@reddit
There are over 1,100 787's in service.
If their 'claim' that the issue has been fully mitigated through embedded metallic mesh wasn't true, it would have been newspaper headlines all over the world by now.
Also, lightning burns holes straight through aluminum with ease, yet you didn't seem to be concerned about that.
DT5105@reddit
Never mind, that post was a dog whistle for the Boeing shills.
Now for a minutes silence for the passengers lost due to Boeing's gutting their safety department.
Downvote if you are a shill and agree
Independent-Mix-5796@reddit
The A350 also has a fuselage, wings, and a tail made largely of composites, but you do you.
greenizdabest@reddit
Isnt it aluminium lithium panels while the 787 uses autoclaved cfrp barrels
Independent-Mix-5796@reddit
I’m not a materials expert but everything I’ve read tells me that the A350 still relies heavily on CFRPs as well.
greenizdabest@reddit
https://share.google/images/pATNC22bfTzyfc22w
Yes, but which modern aircraft doesn't have composites?
The difference is in the design. The 787 is built ground up around cfrp barrels joined together. The 350 not so much
Independent-Mix-5796@reddit
Good points—this is the first time I’ve ever seen a breakdown of the A350’s airframe, so prior to this I’ve mistakenly assumed that it followed the same design as the 787.
That said, carbon fiber is still carbon fiber. Noticeably, the A350 wings, tail and rear, and I think top panels are all carbon fiber. Lightning doesn’t take the path of least resistance, so even if the A350 utilizes a more traditional design, it must still provide sufficient electrical protection for those composite sections. Boeing certainly chose a tougher challenge in assembling the 787 fuselage components entirely out of composites but I imagine the challenges are more on the structural side rather than the electrical side, frankly.

Ryanair passengers evacuated at Kraków Airport
Passengers aboard a Ryanair flight scheduled to depart from Kraków Airport to Bristol were evacuated after the pilot noticed smoke in the cabin. Fire services were called to the scene.
According to Kraków Airport representatives, as reported by RMF FM journalist Maciej Sołtys, the pilot spotted smoke of unknown origin during pre-departure preparations. Following standard safety procedures, he decided to evacuate both passengers and crew.
Fortunately, no one was injured. The aircraft stopped on the apron and is not blocking airport operations at Balice. However, the flight to Bristol has been significantly delayed, and the airline is deciding whether a replacement aircraft will be needed.
95ole@reddit
„…and the airline is deciding whether a replacement aircraft will be needed….“? How can this be a question? I don’t think it’s only roll the slides back and ready to go even if the smoke thing wasn’t a thing?!
netz_pirat@reddit
Iirc the slides come pre packed as a module that can be exchanged rather quickly, so they might opt to do that...
But I for sure wouldn't get back on a plane that I was evacuated from a few hours earlier due to smoke in the cabin.
Express-Way9295@reddit
Does RynoAir have four slides ready for use in Krakow? Do they have RII personell available to buy back slide installations? When at a maintenance base, it is not a quick job.
pacwess@reddit
The smoke could be a known issue.
Safe_Can_2370@reddit
How many hours would you prefer them to wait after determining the cause and taking corrective action?
netz_pirat@reddit
As someone with an engineering degree in aerospace technology, working in aerospace:
Determining cause, corrective action and the proper paperwork for smoke in the cabin will take longer than I am willing to wait at the airport. So either I am not on the plane due to excessive wait time, or I am not on the plane because procedures were not followed.
Tbh I can see a ferry flight to a repair base after an incident like that, but not a passenger flight right away.
Safe_Can_2370@reddit
Working in the field, you surely know that if you’re being invited back on the pictured aircraft as a passenger, the number of hours is irrelevant in and of itself, because the proper procedures have certainly been followed by the time a pax flight is being scheduled. Your earlier comment “I wouldn’t get back on a plane…” seemed to imply that you think otherwise, which is odd coming from someone in the industry.
netz_pirat@reddit
In this specific incident, European airline, you are correct.
I have however been on airplanes on other continents where I would not be anywhere near as sure about proper procedures being followed.

SkyHighExpress@reddit
Smoke/fumes would be my guess as it would be unlikely to rapidly disembark an intact looking plane via sides
Acceptable-Heron6839@reddit
Rapid disembarkation is part of Ryanair’s business model
Difficult_Camel_1119@reddit
sure, but the slides cost extra (money and ground time)
Better use the onboard stairs next time
Nailhimself@reddit
25€ extra if you want to use the slide.
SillyDeersFloppyEars@reddit
Tell that to all the fucking zombies that crowd the aisle instead of leaving the aircraft.
DutchBlob@reddit
You don’t evacuate using slides for a minor technical issue, so something serious must have happened. Looks like a 737MAX8 so the that will of course increase the scrutiny.
Free_my_fish@reddit
Ryanair must be regretting their purchase of Maxes given the amount of time these things spend out of action
Ecstatic-Garden-678@reddit
Airbuses have issues with engines currently, just something temporary in both cases, hopefully.
Airplanes are meant to fly!
Guruchill@reddit
NEO engine issues are a major reason that Spirit is keeps going in to Chapter 11.
biggsteve81@reddit
Ryanair is one of the biggest reasons (along with Southwest) that the Max even exists.
Peeterwetwipe@reddit
You do if you suspect the aircraft is on fire.
Standard_Pirate_8409@reddit
You don’t if you only suspect. You do if you assess and deem it uncontrollable. There are fires that can be effectively extinguished by fire fighters without the need to risk injuries and death by evacuating (injury from fall, accident with arriving vehicles). Captains decision, can of course be overruled by cabin crew if communication is deemed not working with flight deck, cabin fire is uncontrollable or forced by panicking pax. But b4 you evacuate you normally run a situational assessment that said, I’m not saying anything about the decision by the captain. I’m just adding to your comment that you imperatively „do“ if you suspect fire. There is a lot more to that
Dear_Ad_3437@reddit
Curious, what makes them deploy full flaps when this was during pre-departure preparations? Wouldn’t they be set to 5 at most?
