It's strange that they're in such a hurry to tear everything down. I had previously assumed there would be a slow, controlled collapse while our rulers steal/consolidate resources, build bunkers, ect, but it seems like this is a they're conducting a smash and grab at a break neck pace. I wonder how bad things really are.
shinkouhyou@reddit
The techbros thought they would be able to control the collapse and use it to create their dumb scifi fantasy, but the Trump administration is even dumber than that. Now Musk has fallen out of favor, Zuck/Altman/Bezos acknowledge that AI is a bubble that's ready to pop, and Yarvin is fleeing the country before his benefactors turn on him. The network state isn't happening, seasteading isn't happening, and bunkers aren't happening. It was all a bunch of cool cyberpunk workbuilding sold to a bunch of socially stunted nerds.
Dismantling the CDC doesn't profit big pharma or tech. It's solely an ideological attack intended to punish the disloyal and to make Trump and RFK Jr. look like heroes to their base (at a time when faith in both of them is slipping a bit). The Trump admin doesn't have grand plans, they have grievances.
Goatmannequin@reddit
I agree with this to an extent. Even the least educated know that the national debt is a problem, and that one can either print money or tax. Well, the lower classes have little to tax, so they are trying to reinforce their wealth in a dollar-denominated way as much as possible by cutting government expenditures where they do not directly profit, and the tariffs do the job on the lower classes.
Furthermore, as powerful as Musk is, for example, his assets are dollar denominated, and his ventures are United States companies. As such, they are intractably bound to the currency (imagine if Musk liquidated all his holdings (that in itself would be incredible), and then attempted to buy another currency or gold, and what would happen to the dollar). He of course knows this, and it is only logical to be worried about the currency, and that something must be done. Now, this doesn't mean that the rich are intelligent in their efforts, insofar as they're trying to reinforce the dollar, because what they are doing is by nature destabilizing. However, the radial right wing and Trump (the "Mar-a-Lago Accord) have publicly stated their plan is to devalue the United States debt by weakening the dollar, and is somewhat contradictory to the above. So what the fuck is going on?
In short, they're worried about the debt, at the very least, and that much is certain. They're so worried about it, they're willing to destroy the value of the currency and they've publicly stated this. They also have had what some would say is an unusual interest in Fort Knox, a debt backstop, and Trump, as you know, has a gold fetish, as gaudy as it is. What are they going to do next? Do they even have a plan? Does a class of primary school children on the playground at recess have some master plan? They may just be doing what they do day to day as it comes with no conceivable goal whatsoever save enriching themselves and cementing power through the private sector.
Inner-Today-3693@reddit
I thought there was a plan now I’m convinced they have no clue what they are doing. This is going to end I think by next year. Taking people’s health care away and make everyone poor will backfire.
Key-Increase-6243@reddit
Health care billionaires are people too~. The left tries to stop publicans by turning everything into collateral damage for their schemes. But they don't care. At this point if jihadists try hiding in a hospital They'll just bomb it to dust
SleepsInAlkaline@reddit
Just because Trump doesn’t have a plan doesn’t mean lots of people around him don’t, and some of those plans really will be successful. Hopefully not the worst ones.
CaptainBirdEnjoyer@reddit
"If you vote for me, you won't have to vote anymore."
I'd love it to end next year, but idk. I'm not on his side at all, but he also told everyone in an October debate that he would try to block the confirmation of Biden and he certainly tried. Now we have GOP leaders buying voting machine companies. And they have patents on their own voting machines.
Making everyone poor and unable to resist is the plan. It's not politically popular to genocide your own citizens, but if a bunch die because of lack of medical treatment, well "that's just gods will."
I hate this timeline.
Ree_on_ice@reddit
I don't think it's complicated. Make yourself rich, rich as a Nazi, and you can possibly survive until old age in the coming chaos.

See, that kind of thinking is what'll get the rich done in, dude. Money doesn't mean anything if society breaks down. Deliveries aren't made. The trash piles up. People battling in the streets. Your money means nothing, dude.

I think there's a sweet spot for death acceptance around 45 or 50 where you're old enough to have done most everything you have wanted to but still young enough to not be so inflexible to cling to the habit of life

I'm 48 and I enjoy the thought of being in the third act of my life.

I'm 63. I have never reached that point and never hope to.
__scan__@reddit
Is just a thing people say, nobody actually feels like that other guy is saying
HommeMusical@reddit
This is just not the case, though I agree with you that I don't understand it well.
I know plenty of people who really don't care about dying; some of them mostly live in the moment, some of them are optimistic (I mean, I'm a cheerful guy, but not that optimistic!), and some believe in some sort of continued existence after death (also optimistic).
There are also a lot of people who believe they would be happier dead, and in some cases, I privately wonder if they are right, though I would never ever tell them that.
CatchaRainbow@reddit
I'm 68 and loving life more now than any time in my life. I now know what's important, and the important stuff is easy to find. Love and health.
HommeMusical@reddit
For many of my friends, health was something that was impossible to find. Many of them did nothing wrong, but some random health problem appeared and went on to be the biggest thing in their lives.
sloppymoves@reddit
I'm not even 40. I accept that death is inevitable and while there is always some residual fear, I feel it's more like disappointment. If given the choice, I'd live forever. This is the only time I will ever be me in this life, and I'd like it to last until the heat death of the universe. No matter the cost. No matter the horror.
But that is just because I want to see everything. I want to see civilizations rise and fall on distant worlds. I want to see the last light go out.
MeateatersRLosers@reddit
Other than taking care of my parents, I never wanted to live. Living forever sounds like a nightmare.
sloppymoves@reddit
That is fair. I had a lot of death around me early in my life, so I see living as a way to keep the memory of those who perished alive. I see the idea of immortality as being one and the same as a living memorial. Especially if it is the perfect you never age and you can't die immortality. But yeah, I'd probably go insane after about 300 years.

SelectionBroad931@reddit
Sounds so weird to me, I'm in my mid 30s and still feel like a teenager, I have strength to do whatever I want (can hike 40 kms, can bike 150 kms) so I can't fathom the feeling that eventually I accept the fact, that life will be over for me, but I do appreciate your explanation!
Elrox@reddit
Once you reach a certain age you'll feel it coming more. Injuries take months instead of weeks to heal, you feel weaker no matter how hard you work out, some things just hurt all the time no matter what you do. Eventually death is coming, you just make peace with it.
gerald_gales@reddit
I think you may be misunderstanding what they meant. I'm a couple of decades older than you and, as I've been heavily invested in sports and fitness my whole life, I can also still comforably hike 40 km and bike 150 km. However, in yout fifties, it's not that you feel so physically broken down that you 'long for death'. It's more that you simply accept the fact that, one day, life will be over for you and you're comfortable with that. With age, you come to the realisation that death is a part of life and not necessarily something to be feared. Personally, I often tell my family that, if I die while climbing, or fell running, or kayaking that I'll be happy with that. Everybody has to die, and to do so while I'm still reasonably fit and out in nature, which I adore, seems like a good way to go rather than being comatose in a hospital bed.
Bremer_dan_Gorst@reddit
This exactly, though I'm "only" 45. u/SelectionBroad931 I love my life and I don't want to die but I know I will one day. I just live my life to the fullest. Nothing comes from worrying. I know, I did worry when I was young.
SelectionBroad931@reddit
I'm kinda bipolar in a way. Currently I'm without a job, but as I have savings and not looking for a work to enjoy life I'm shitscared of the thought that eventually my cats, parents and I'll die. Sometimes I can't fall asleep because I am thinking about this and then though I'm still young, I have the fear of falling asleep as what's going to happen if I'm not going to wake up and I have these panicky thoughts for an hour, then I can fall asleep.
When I was working and I had constant burnout with suicidal thoughts, I wouldn't have cared about if I'd be dead, but right now that things are perfect and I'm content, I can't fathom the thought that all the good things will eventually be gone
Bremer_dan_Gorst@reddit
The key point is that you are still young. In am most likely in the middle or in the second half already (at 44 currently, almost 45).
I do remember being scared about my loved ones when I was young. I couldn't sleep either. It went away on its own.
I was misdiagnosed with cancer (as in there was a high possibility that I had one but in fact I didnt). During that time I remember waking up and for few seconds I thought that it was all a dream but then it was coming back to me and the ever present dread was back.
And after this experience I somehow stopped thinking about death - it will come for us eventually and there is no stopping it. And since it is inevitable - why think about it and make the current moment miserable?
When I was watching Breaking Bad I had a thought that somehow with cancer or cancer diagnosis had to be on the writing board, because when Walt said "have spent my whole life scared. Frightened of things that could happen; might happen; might not happen. 50 years I've spent like that. Finding myself awake at 3am. But you know what? Ever since my diagnosis, I sleep just fine. I came to realize it's that fear is the worst of it, that's the real enemy. So, get up, get out in the real world and you kick that bastard as hard as you can, right in the teeth." - this had to be written by someone with that experience because I had that too!
It is freeing in a sense.
SelectionBroad931@reddit
Got it, I appreciate your insights and explanation!

For me, it was the length of time for minor injuries to heal that made me realize I was getting older. Even in my late 20’s, a tweaked muscle that would have been gone in an evening when 15, now would linger a bit longer.
Things that were once exhilarating now seemed exhausting, or even absurd, like tackle football. Sure, if I was being paid, but for fun and “glory”? Fuck that.

they cling because no one knows what happens after despite what they tell themselves to feel better. Most of the deaths will be in the tropics, which is about half of humanity, but underrepresented here on Reddit.
OtisPan@reddit
Sort of. They're not just gonna sit there & do nothing, though.
Classic-Today-4367@reddit
Exactly. I'm in southern Australia, and just the past week the national TV station had a few articles about how the climate in the northern (tropical) part of Australia has already changed a lot in the past decade.
Basically explaining how the vision of the place being an agricultural food bowl won't work and issues people living there already have with the heat and lack of water.
The unspoken part being that the countries to the north of Australia, which straddle the equator, are basically going to be completely fucked over. And those people are going to become the new "boat people" coming south as refugees. (I think Australia and Papua New Guinea becoming military allies last week probably has something to do with this too.)
dovercliff@reddit
They're actually more likely to head north; of that region you'll find much, much more in the way of roads and infrastructure and less open sea - plus drinkable water. South there's more open sea, fewer roads, and a massive fuck-off desert.
The tragedy is more likely to be us watching aghast as millions of people die somewhere between the Kimberly and Uluru trying to reach the south, because they looked at a map and thought that all those blue lines mean there's water in those riverbeds.
Classic-Today-4367@reddit
I meant south to Australia, not to southern Australia.
dovercliff@reddit
Yes; that's what I meant too. Thing is that the north of this continent isn't going to be a refuge; it's already hot as buggery up there, and the part of the continent (the Kimberly/Pilbara regions) that is closest to them isn't exactly a great place to land and set up shop in.
I honestly suspect most Australians will be horrified, but it'll be in the form of "I'm glad I'm not you". Certainly not enough to actually help, as if it's hot and dangerous enough that, say, Indonesia needs to be abandoned, there's very little chance that we'd be in a position to be able to render aid to anyone.
Note that none of this is a good thing; I have this wild take that human suffering is Bad.
tc_cad@reddit
Can’t go too far north either. In Canada the northern forests have been on fire in some area of them for many years now.
ribald_jester@reddit
The ensuing mass migrations (and subsequent wars) will be also contribute to a lot of deaths. When folks hit a wall with armed guards, they are gonna fight their way through...guns will be fired.
cathartis@reddit
Not so sure about that. A steep decline in agricultural production in Europe, North America and China due to changing rainfall patterns and soil depletion is definitely on the bingo card.
There's also the issue of how the mass of humans will react when they fully realise what's coming. A lot of people here tend to be the more intellectual types. However, it's when practical people, the doers and makers, get angry, that blood really runs in the streets.
Resource wars intensifying are another really strong possibility. More Ukraines. Quite possible they will end with nukes flying.

Mine is not a plan of survival. But I no longer try to save the planet. I encourage making it worse. If we burn, they burn. I discourage people having children so they aren’t subjected to this mess. I hope we leave this place uninhabitable by even billionaires. I’m only sorry for the animals since we suck as a species.
I’m not being a smart-ass either. Nor am I discouraging others from trying to find hope in it all. I’m just not. Too much time wasted thinking I’ll make it. Even if some of us can survive, not sure I’d like to see what ‘survival’ even means.

EchoesOfEleos@reddit
I mean they didn't say anything about massaged me so that just seems like an odd projection.
I'm a woman, I think very similarly.
Humanity failed as a species because we went down a faulty Apex predation evolutionary line that is consuming its own species through over competing.
I do not want the worst of this faulty evolutionary line to be the only thing that survives which would be the billionaires etc. because that would just continue a horrific path of evolution.
But thankfully, logically this evolutionary path doesn't seem to last very long regardless.
The parasite consumes too much to exist.
funknut@reddit
I only used the term, "incel," bringing the severity of the matter at hand, the origin, and the context back to the operative word there, which was "blackpilled". I don't assume they're literally an incel, though it shouldn't surprise you, given their express claim to actively harming people the planet. Assuming their total earnestness, they do seem blackpilled, though, which isn't normative, healthy behavior, just to say the least, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if I called it right on with the "incel" remark, either. Mind you, it's perfectly likely they're just responding rashly, frm their despondence, and not actually intending to cause any of the harm they described.

3 degrees Celsius above pre-Industrial Era average global temperature. I emigrated to this sub years ago after my favorite one got shut down for voicing too much support for John Brown.
The news here is not good. 3c means global famine and potential collapse of civilization. If and when temperatures rise further, many believe, myself included, that we are headed for extinction in relative short order.

Would this have been the same sub that got in trouble for saying that Civil War era slaves were completely justified in killing Civil War era slave owners, in the Civil War era?

Ree_on_ice@reddit
Yup, 4-5c is a world where less than a billion people can survive, and that's around the poles of the planet. That is all assuming we didn't completely radiate the planet through nuclear war first, or just destroy ourselves through war in some other way.
Oh, and tipping points which could lead to much higher temperatures than that are already triggering. Johan Rockström says "They trigger between 1.2c and 2c". We don't know how bad they'll be, and some are for sure very slow, but yeah.

you're being myopic. 'they' aren't doing it in my country even though we have as many billionaires and RWNJs per capita as you do. 'they' aren't doing it in Europe. if 'global elites' were a real thing in the pejorative meaning of the phrase, then 'they' would be doing this globally. the trumpet dropkicks and maga f'wits are doing this because it's a long-standing right wing belief - small government. It's not happening at a state level (blue ones) and at a city/county level. is it madness to fire 1,000 people from the CDC - of course it is but how is this going to help the 'elites' survive global heating? it's not in any way a logical progression of thought. much more likely it's someone on Team Grift Trump who is getting a kickback from big pharma because it means less regulation etc. Ditto other agencies. It's partly ideological and part big grift. It's not because they have the same understanding about future collapse at the same level of the average member of this sub. They don't.

I've met a few billionaires in my time (through weirdly niche sports). They're mostly 'normal'. Possibly a bit more focussed and harder working then the rest of us with a lift from family money at the start. The ones we 'know' from the media are a minute subset. Sam Altman (total dweeb and fuck his AI vision) is apparently a prepper as is that psycho Thiel. Buffet and Soros are high profile on the other end of the spectrum. But the vast majority we've never heard of. They may not even show up at Davos and don't show up on Forbes Super Wealthy lists because they value their privacy. I think we the plebs have a distorted view of the super wealthy because the tech bros like Musk would have you believe they have it all figured out. Musk for one is a consummate liar. No way is the human race going to Mars (but he may actually believe his own BS on that one). They're probably on the phone half of every day working out petty shit like interviewing a new security detail, pilots or drivers. Phone calls from the CEOs of their family offices. Meetings with Dutch super-yacht designers. In Bezos's case it's meetings with his penis-shaped rocket design team. Any spare time is family, actual work on their operating businesses and so on. They don't spend much time dicking around you youtube watching collapse/climate videos from the likes of Paul Beckworth or Nate Hagans. A few might. They often believe the crap pitched at them from people who want seed money like "Carbon Capture Can Scale & Lead Us To Net Zero!" (it can't). Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Or a similar version for this comment: Never attribute to conspiracy that which is adequately explained by ignorance

Past civilization failures often trended downward by jolts and temporary recovered, then jolted down again. The final collapse, however, was usually pretty fast.

This isn't complicated. They throw Nazi salutes, they expressly align themselves against the antifascists of 1930s Germany. Now they're dismantling the old government and the old institutions so that new ones can take their places. It's the Nazi playbook all over again, plain and simple and astonishingly transparent. They've concluded, probably correctly, that the only reason the Nazis didn't become an unstoppable empire was that 1930s Germany hadn't been a global economic superpower with WMDs for days. So now they're having another go at it.
I just pray that they underestimated the risk factor of trying to pull this Nazi bullshit in a country where it's legal for anyone to privately own and use some pretty intense weaponry. Here's to the folks who cared about this sort of thing not turning out like the slow-boiled frog.

The above would be consistent with comments about "toxins":
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/fact-checking-rfk-jr-s-claim-that-environmental-toxins-cause-autism
Not believing in germ theory would also be consistent with the opposition to vaccines:
https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/01/the-madness-of-robert-f-kennedy-jr/
There is the intention to collect health data in a central database:

And the intention to track people with devices:

He is also proposing "wellness farms", voluntary for now:

Electronic-Yam-69@reddit

starswtt@reddit
Luckily, it's not that bad (not that much better though.) He believes in the also discredited terrain theory, which essentially argues everything ties to homeostasis and keeping the body healthy and that microbes only become bad when the body is unhealthy. Which there is a tiny kernel of truth in there (since IRL, your body does struggle to fight against germs when it's weak), and the germ-terrain duality is generally accepted (where germs are still real, but the body being weak makes it easier for germs to enter.) Obviously that's very different from RFK's claims that all problems come terrain alone and that a bad germ can never infect a healthy person. Terrain theory (and RFK) also downplay the differences between microbes- they're all neutral or beneficial until your body's "terrain" is thrown off balance
Which god I can't believe I said with a straight face that fully believing in terrain theory is not that bad, but my standards at this point are genuinely that low. I'm just happy we're not blood letting
And while he does call it miasma theory, in practice what he's preaching is just terrain theory with more emphasis on pollution (miasma.) Difference being that miasma theory holds miasma first while in terrain theory the body's terrain is first and miasma is just a factor. Which also makes it worse, bc he doesn't even know what miasma theory is. Either an intentional rebrand where he ties it to more popular miasma theory to carry forward a grift, or more likely his source of information is a cobbled together shitty mish mash of pop conspiracy theories that themselves don't understand the difference between miasma theory and terrain theory

Any real population contraction would benefit current workers.
Corey Bradshaw et al have shown that infant mortality massively impacts birth rates: If too few kids die so young, then parents have fewer kids. There are many reasons why this could occur, like the social resources invested in each kid pays off more. It'd likely benefit industrial society too.
I does not benefit the very wealthy though.

This is going to sound conspiratorial, but consider the dietary recommendations that people eat way less salt, and then consider that clinical trials of elderly Italians with heart failure--the population you might most expect to benefit from salt restriction--actually had more cardiac events and higher mortality when randomized to ~1.8g of salt a day to ~2.7g.
It's basically going to be a war of attrition against everybody.

All the MedBeds talk is actually a harbinger to normalizing eugenics. The sick and indigent who can't afford healthcare don't get the care they need, but they're instead forced into a bed with an easy push-button option to self-terminate.

When they say that they want to make America great again they're not referring to the 1950s. They're referring to the first gilded age which they call the richest time in American history. That's when robber barons like Andrew Carnegia and Cornelius Vanderbilt made vast fortunes off of the backs of overworked, underpaid laborers slaving away in dangerous conditions.
That's also when diseases like measles, polio, cholera, etc. ran rampant. They must want to bring those back to make America great again. They won't be able to fully restore the diseases back to those levels because smallpox was wiped out.

I can't explain why it is a good thing for us, but it was good for Trump to cut a deal with RFK Jr. Remember, RFK Junior was running for president. He could never win, but he could syphon enough voters that Trump would lose. And if Trump lost, there was a chance he'd end up in jail due to the various election frauds he was accused of.
So Trump made a deal - RFK Junior would drop out, and Trump would give him an important job in government.
And that's how we got a nutcase running the CDC.

RFK Junior is mostly a vaccine skeptic. It's one of the things he promotes.
Among other things, when an improperly handled measles vaccine caused the deaths of two children in American Samoa, RFK Junior visited the island, met with other vaccine skeptics, and made statements critical of vaccination.
A few months later, a measles outbreak began, killing 83 people, mostly children.
RFK Junior rejected any claims he was partially responsible for any deaths.

Well fewer federal employees means less revenue is required, which means less of a tax burden. That means those paying lots of tax can pay less.
The US also has a massive debt refinance this year which will have to be refinanced at a significantly higher rate than it is currently at.
So reducing costs could be argued may help here.

I honestly think the 2000s were the peak of humanity. Just enough technology to bring the world together without social media echo chambers that promote idiocracy.
I think many people over the age of 30 don’t realize that the world we grew up in is completely gone. Not in the sense of “children don’t play outside anymore,” but more “science, laws, and evidence and have been replaced with opinions, lies, and stupidity.”
Once again, all we need to do is look toward the Nazi book burnings of the 1930s for a historical lesson. But somehow, this is worse, because thousands of doctors and scientists still support Trump and RFK despite this complete idiocracy. Despite a global pandemic that began just five years ago.
sloppymoves@reddit
Nah all the hateful awful people were still around back then. They just didn't have access to the internet. The golden rule of the internet in late 90s early 2000s was "Don't believe everything you read online." Hell, even adults at the time use to parrot those same exact lines to us. Then push up to about 2010 and it all gets thrown out of the window as our parents and grandparents get their first smartphone and begin posting on Facebook and other social media. They completely forgot the "Don't believe everything you read online" motto and also have zero technical or critical thought training to deal with the insanity that is being on the internet.
I think the internet was and still is one of the greatest inventions of mankind. But I really think critical thinking classes should have been taught in tandem with access.

Eight years under GWB, wars to make the rich richer, and dealing with the aftermath of 9/11 as well as the stolen 2000 election in the US were definitely not peak.
BeardedGlass@reddit
You never know you're standing on the peak until you're halfway down the other side, looking back up at where you were.
I'd say humanity peaked somewhere between 1995 and 2005.
The Berlin Wall had fallen, the Soviet Union was gone. Nuclear annihilation went from imminent threat to something you worry about only with too much beer.
The internet was new enough to be magical but old enough to be useful. Medicine had gotten good. The death rate from armed conflict hit historic lows.
The environment was damaged, but it was the kind of damaged where you could still fix it if you tried.
That was the decade when even the regular people could still build a life. A college degree didn't cost more than a house. Minimum wage could actually pay rent in some places.
Books were doing fine, TV was entering its golden age. Movies still had midbudget productions that weren't comic books. Streaming music hasn't been introduced yet.
And people talked to each other. In cafes. At work. At parties. Without checking their phones every thirty seconds because phones couldn't do that much yet.
Back then we still could hope to hope.
Superb-Register-102@reddit
Things like cost of living, weather patterns, virus outbreaks, etc were more stable. But 2000s peak of humanity... the polluting etc was there, but it was just right before the big consequences started to show. I guess this means we're on our own for the Global Forever Chemicals in Drinking Water Crisis that is gripping the globe right now. Scientists are now detecting PFHxS, PFOS, PFOA, Trihalomethanes, Chloroform, Haloacetic Acids, Dichloacetic and Trichloroacetic Acid, Arsenic, Hexovalent Chromium, and dozens more chemicals and disinfection byproducts found in all treated water, rain water, food supplies and human blood world wide.
People with sensitive skin will notice scabs appearing that never heal, painful blisters and increased secondary bacterial infections. Thyroid, liver, and kidney cancers and disorders will be on the rise. Reproductive health, pregnancy problems, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders and many more health complications will continue to rise until we reach a mass die-off of humans on earth.
This could potentially be the end of human life on earth. We've already crossed eight of nine global tipping points and biodiversity loss is currently happening at up to 1000 times faster than the background rate. Over 74% of all animals on earth have disappeared in the last 50 years. The oceans are currently acidifying and the coral reefs are going to die. The reefs are humanities canary in the coal mine and this is the signal telling us the end of human life is right around the corner and we are potentially the last generation of humans to live on earth.
It's time to militarize just like your local law enforcement and the national guard. So, when the Trump administration uses the standard economic term "bloodbath", he's inciting hate and violence.
When the liberal media calls a modest set of layoffs of government employees, during a government shut down, its a "massacre".
This is why people hate this bs. Such a double standard in the propaganda doublethink.

RFK Jr’s a mentally unstable idiot who is putting the lives and health of every American at potentially dangerous and possibly deadly risk,he seriously needs to be removed from his job as Secretary of Health because he’s not going to make America healthy again, his erratic behaviour is unacceptable and is going to result in people getting sick and dying.

The US doesn't care about being a major superpower anymore. They care about closing borders and being a regional power. They'll be instigating full takeovers and wars with South America soon to build enough reserve power to eventually take over Canada. The geopolitical fascism has come home to roost and is now turned inward.

This won't be fixed, period. The professionals that are being cast out will go elsewhere and there will be no new professionals to replace them. Even if you do manage to bring in more professionals, the loss of cumulative experience would take the better part of a century to restore.

Oh I think the people behind the orange dope have a plan. A big plan. He’s dumb and greedy… the people behind 2025? Well…It’s been thought about carefully… but don’t take that as being intelligent plan. Stupid people plan things too… it just usually blows up in their face when acted upon. Lotta dumb people currently in jail had a plan…
Which is kind of my expectation here. Long thought out , but eminently stupid plan blows up badly in their face out in the real world.
And thus, yes. The United States is about to regress dramatically as a result.

I've approved your submission, but please note for future reference that a submission statement is not just copying and pasting extracts from the article, nor is it just summarising the article. You have to explain, in your own words, how this is connected to collapse.

Hey Collapseniks. Just a reminder that no matter what idiots in power say, your Collapse mod team absolutely believes in germ theory.
Practice basic sanitation. Lather your hands with soap, wash your hands in warm-hot water for at least 20 seconds, and dry your hands on a clean surface or air after eating, drinking, coughing, sneezing, using the bathroom, gaming and any other activity involving your hands. Wear KN95 masks or better when sick. Get vaccinations. Use condoms. Eat healthy, drink clean water, and turn off Reddit to get lots of sleep. Stay home, or at least keep six feet from other people if you have to show to work sick. Do everything you can to stay healthy, as we head into at least three more years of counterintuitive messaging trying to gaslight you into believing it's the 1950s and the world is perfectly healthy. We never were, but with effort we can be.
Any posts that try to counter long-proven scientific techniques on health will be removed for disinformation and trolls will be banned as always, straight up. Please continue to report any you see, we'll deal with them.
As long as our community has a need, your mod team will continue to be internet janitors and monks preserving discussion through the dark age.

You HAVE to chill out with the mandates, you are making people MAD.
But we have to save our grandmothers!
To this day, I will never understand mandates. People were actually talking about welding people into their apartments in NYC. China is doing it, we can too.
All this INSANITY is payback time. People want revenge, no matter how IRRATIONAL it sounds. Look at Trump, he is driven by revenge.
COVID mandates, a bad idea. But no one listened. I gave up.

Of course, they are still mad. They lost their livelihoods, and education test scores were sent back 2 decades. RFKJr is the outcome of that anger.
Modern board members made billions and bought Hamptons houses and super yachts. Did you? A friend lost $500,000 in a real estate deal shut down by Covid. Lost his home. He is still mad. He has NOT forgotten.
LuckyIrishGirl777@reddit
Okay so because of covid and things outside of everyone's control...wed rather burn the entire country down, with all of us suffering even further, not to mention all the people getting sent to foreign camps in Africa and south America? Not to mention the state of the economy right now, yesterday my fiance just lost 40% of his net worth. I dont understand how any dumbass can look at this and think we are winning or much less fixing anything. Trump and the GOP just fucked us over even more than we already were

I think the US could recover from this and rebuild all the departments that this government is destroying...but at a state level.
It should have been obvious from the last election that the federal government is corrupt and compromised at all levels, and the democrats are not willing or able to do anything about it either. Really Americans should totally abandon any expectations of the federal government doing anything for them and focus on strengthening state level institutions. Let the mad king and his followers become increasingly separated from the actual governing and running of the country at a local level where it matters. California has the economy of an independent nation by itself and could easily fund it's own CDC if that was what Californians wanted. And the equivalent of the other defunded government departments.
In Europe we have the opposite problem, that the EU is not federal enough and should cooperate much more without individual countries pulling in different directions or blocking/vetoing further integration. But the US could benefit from it's states being more like sovereign European nations that won't do anything that they disagree with. Raise taxes at state level, create state level institutions, stop paying federal taxes without representation. Build political and cultural identity at the state level. Build enough resilience to be able to just shrug and ignore the central government if you wish, as individuals EU states often do.
Bman409@reddit
Thats how the system was designed, ie, the Constitution ..everything not explicitly laid out in the Constitution was "reserved " for the states to implement

For what its worth, back in 2020, the CDC has about \~10k employees.
Tidezen@reddit
This is just another in a long chain of cutbacks, though. My sister and her husband both work in the public health department in our state's Capitol. They've had to lay off about 75% of their employees since January, due to cutbacks in federal funding. They work very closely with the CDC, who they couldn't even communicate with earlier this year (due to the first round of fed dept. freezes).
Small changes in the federal dept. centers can have a huge cascading effect on smaller state/local centers, which rely heavily on data from the CDC, and fed funding.
Logical-Race8871@reddit
And like half those are administrative roles and/or not related to combating pandemics. "Disease" refers to everything from industrial silicosis to elderly hip fractures and childhood obesity. Less than half of it's budget goes to infectious disease (probably a lot less in 2025).
Word is not a lot of people got fired in Atlanta, and most, if not all of these firings were rescinded a couple hours later.
Just want to keep things accurate while it all comes down. The CDC has always been underfunded for the scale of threats faced. It's like a tenth of a percent of the federal budget. We spend like 0.0004% of the federal budget on pandemic prevention and study.
bristlybits@reddit

TropicalKing@reddit
It's a clickbaity title. "CDC is Over" implies that the CDC has instantly ended operations, which isn't the case. The CDC is still around, it just has to deal with decreased staffing.
I do think many of these 3 letter agencies are going to have to make sacrifices and deal with cutbacks.
Ok-Abrocoma-6587@reddit
FEMA has 4 letters, though, so why is it's funding being cut?
Ab_Stark@reddit
Deficit is a problem, the CDC budget could be multiplied by an integer and wouldn’t even move the needle.
Would rather us not bail out countries like Argentina than cut funding for such a critical agency

There's an edit to the article that says at least some of the layoffs have been rescinded? So I dunno, this whole administration is a bunch of fucking clowns from top to bottom and this might just be them trying (and still failing) to play chicken with the Democrats by making hollow threats.
As horrified as I've been for the past year or so, I'm loving watching Trump's boys squirm and fuck up so much since the shutdown started, because as long as the Dems don't cave, Trump will have to either back down or put his money where his mouth has been all year and just go ahead and destroy America with his stupid fucking ideas.
