What is the difference between this and the 'regular' X870e Tomahawk WIFI they already offer? Besides moving all those connectors to the back?
kaszak696@reddit
64MB of flash storage for UEFI, the older Tomahawk only has 32MB, just like most other AM5 boards. It's probably going to be a repeat of AM4 days, when the UEFI storage on earlier motherboards wasn't sufficient to fit support for Zen 3 alongside the code of all previous CPUs.

It is white. This is a cosmetic difference motherboard.
You don't have to believe me, you can check for yourself : https://www.msi.com/Motherboards/Products#?tag=MAG-Series&compare=TUFHLVg4NzBFLVRPTUFIQVdLLVdJRkk=,TUFHLVg4NzBFLVRPTUFIQVdLLU1BWC1XSUZJLVBa

Really the X870E requirement should have been dual x8/x8 slots in x16 mechanical wih one being x16 electrical.
BlueGoliath@reddit
Spec sheet looks good if you like connections on the back. Only possible negative is "only" having 4 SATA connections, but 95% will be happy with that.
Ethrealin@reddit
Would that not mess with 2.4 GHz dongles? My keyboard is not having a great time with the dongle in a USB 3.0 port.
BlueGoliath@reddit
I haven't personally heard of a USB3 port messing up anything. If a device is USB2 then the connection is USB2 AFAIK.
FatalCakeIncident@reddit
Usb 3 is actually notorious for causing issues with 2.4GHz devices. There's a video explaining and demonstrating it here, if you've a few minutes to spare: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MA979zIpTWg
Thradya@reddit
It does, I fix that by using 2.0 only hub for my 2.4GHz devices.
Stingray88@reddit
I haven’t had a SATA device in my desktop since 2019.
kuddlesworth9419@reddit
More onboard SATA lanes would be nice. Granted there are options out there like PCIe expansion cards that add up to 10 SATA connectors. I've also seen some M.2 adapters that add 6 SATA connectors but I'm not sure if those work well or not?
Sopel97@reddit
the silverstone ones are solid
BlueGoliath@reddit
Do those kind of cards require drivers?
Berengal@reddit
I mean, they absolutely require drivers, but those drivers are pretty dumb and already part of the OS. More advanced cards, like raid or tri-mode HBAs might not have Windows drivers, but if you need those you're using them in some kind of NAS or server running Linux anyway.
DuhPai@reddit
They shouldn't require drivers. My main concern would be build quality and longevity, as they seem to be cheaply made. Except for one Startech that I found, none of them are brand names and none of them have warranties.
pppjurac@reddit
At that point you just skip and go for storage array with appropriate number of data shelves and connect to it. At some point SAS has more sense than SATA anyways
mduell@reddit
I think 95% is Leo.
BlueGoliath@reddit
I wasn't trying to be exact. Yes, it's probably 99% more more.
wichwigga@reddit
Interesting that Realtek ethernet controllers are the premium option nowadays

iHF95V2@reddit
Will be there any black version in the future? I'm looking for x870 stealth/zero mobo, currently there are only white
Available-Cow-1633@reddit
There is a high chance that black mobo back connectors will appear at CES and Computex next year.
iHF95V2@reddit
damn, even if they'll be available next year, I'd just grab the white one, I need my PC to be upgraded next month. I was considering gigabyte stealth ice/white as well, but let's see the comparison with the tomahawk PZ when the reviews drop!
rain3h@reddit
They've been "releasing" it for months but it's still not available.
imaginary_num6er@reddit
Glad it says "Ready for Ai PC". I was worried an MSI board would not be ready for Ai
Exist50@reddit
May be reading too much into it, but if "AI PC" is the microsoft definition, could that mean Zen 6 has a 40+ TOP NPU?
