Do we accept libertarian populism?

Okay so I have seen many mixed thoughts on the term and my take on it is that it is viable if you understand what populism IS. Populism advocates for fail sakes in case the incumbent leader is working against the common people. Those same systems could be used when a leader becomes to power hungry. Most of what the populists want, we also want. At the VERY least, we should be able to work together instead of staying separate. Populism is a system and libertarianism is an ideology so they are compatible there. I just don't see a need for the divide. Let me know what you all think :)
Beginning-Panic5153@reddit
For all of the people that say it is inherently incompatible should look at Argentina how Milei won the election with libertarian populism. Furthermore I don't think there is anything wrong with saying that the Elites like the central bank because they can give themselves cheap loans to purchase assets that their value increases with inflation.

I mean look at trumpism, hes a right-wing populist.
personally i think paleolibertarians should "tolerate" right-wing populism bc being "anti-establishment" and values are shared by us. its a way to lead the republican party towards libertarian and to kick out the auth-right warmongers

EXACTLY! Populism isn't an ideology, it's a system of government.
ticketmaster9@reddit
No
sbrisbestpart41@reddit
NO! Libertarianism is intellectual not populist. We shouldn’t appeal to the masses we should appeal to truth.
Efficient_Cry_8246@reddit (OP)
Well hear me on this. What if us the masses put people into the government that will protect our rights and if they start to infringe on our rights, we boot em out?
KaiserKavik@reddit
And that’s why the Libertarian Party is electorally irrelevantz
sbrisbestpart41@reddit
True but is selling out or being real more important?
KaiserKavik@reddit
“Selling out” is a distortion.
Politics is the art of the possible, so you bring what you can possibly do to the table.
Otherwise, you can your authenticity into an arrogant irrelevance

They share a similar vein with pushing power down to the individual. From a classical libertarian POV popularism would be a step in the right direction (power away from the aristocracy). But the stigma associated with populism is IMO undeserved. The worst examples of populism all come from C. America, S. America, and Africa countries. But stigma ignores that ~all of those countries have always been 50 shades of unstable.

I think that it can be chalked up to mostly the States. Populism isn't one rigid ideology, its a system of government. It takes power away from elites and gives it to the people who can elect leaders they want. Most populists I'VE talked to are VERY pro minimal government. Populism advocates for systens to remove leaders that infringe on their rights. They want at least SOME of the things we want so why the hate?
Historical-Garden-51@reddit
What is your definition of populism? What are the core values?
Efficient_Cry_8246@reddit (OP)
Populism doesn't exactly HAVE "core values" because it's more of a system. We the masses elect people who protect our rights and keep intervention/taxes low and if leaders become power hungry, us the masses throw them out. Populism advocates for having referendums and systems to remove leaders the masses dislike. P The core concept of letting the people have what they want lines up to
ChrisWayg@reddit
Is Milei a populist?
Efficient_Cry_8246@reddit (OP)
For sure!
Nickthetaco@reddit
The problem with populism is that it is inherently authoritarian. You have to remember that things like “bureaucracy” and “red tape” often serve important functions like checking power and preventing fraud. People hate these things, they see them as the obstacle to getting what they want. Now these things aren’t always good, but that doesn’t mean we should always necessarily through the baby out with the bathwater.
StraightThought84010@reddit
Majority Mob rule doesn’t protect individual rights. Orangutans will come together to take out a bad leader though. You got me curious, can you elaborate a little more what you are meaning?
Mead_and_You@reddit
Populism is the compromise of your morals for mass apeal. No thanks.
