I'm (20F) currently in Budapest for a trip with my family, and got a couple of free hours to roam the streets (starting right now). Looking to have some affordable fun in the meantime. My hotel's near the old Jewish Quarter so preferably something not too far away from it. Thank you all :)

Cry yourself to sleep just like the locals

Unfortunately, I’m running the marathon tomorrow, I would have like a drink 🍹 with you! :)

Good luck on the marathon!

Depends on how much time you have and what you mean by fun. Having a few drinks? Dancing? Eating? Just walking around? There are tons of options on a saturday night for all of those.

I mean I just left the metro and saw a huge fireworks show so that's already quite a bit of fun haha
I mostly mean something where I could get a little tipsy, not have to stay for too long, and preferably with a good social atmosphere as well - I'm not looking for sex or anything (not enough time for that haha), but absolutely am to spark conversations with nice people! I don't mind if they're Hungarians or other tourists, but I see no reason not to at least try rather than seating alone this whole time haha

Well then, you can just stroll the streets nearby and visit any pub/bar that you like. Most places are packed and it's pretty easy to walk up to tipsy people and start a conversation.
If you're looking for smaller bars to sit then Fekete kutya, Lámpás are always a good choice.
But you can also check the ruin bars of the area like Szimpla or Füge udvar.
I'm at that area right now and everything's packed with people you it'll be easy to connect with someone.

Thank you! I ended up going to Szimpa and am having a lot of fun there. A bit disappointing in that it's OVER crowded (hard to strike conversations with people when every meter of space around them is occupied by like a dozen other people) but still pretty fun!

szimpla isn't just open for the evening. because of its status as a top tourist draw it is open longer than most bars. in fact, they have a farmers market on sunday mornings starting at 9am. one will have a much different experience when it isn't jammed full of people.
nyalatoni-bar@reddit
please dont recommend füge udvar, it's a scummy place with bootleg drinks, and the staff is horrible..

Check bar “Nappali” (living room)
szotyoriferenc@reddit
Yepp, +1 for Nappali. If you a spirit enthusiastic you will definitly love it!
igenigen@reddit
That is part of the city that exclusively focuses on tourists so affordable is not really one of its key features.
You need to be more more specific about what you are looking for. Otherwise, visit Szimpla like every single tourist in BP does.

Gonna just copy-paste the other reply I wrote here:

Then Szimpla or an expat bar like Hoff (further away).
