What if GDP isn’t the ultimate measurement of a countries success? China has the most sustainable infrastructure in the world. It would take the US 100 years for the US to even come close to what they’ve accomplished in 20. They’ve raised the standard of living of most of their population more than the Soviet Union after world war 2.
They’re completely energy independent and are still breaking records for energy production and consumption which shows rapid continuous growth.
The US has the most money but the only reason we don’t collapse under our own weight is because of China keeping us afloat while they quietly take over the world.
The US can continue to brag about having the richest oil executives in the world though for sure.

They're trading cash for influence over those countries for much less money than the nominal amount of the loan. It was honestly a smart scheme, as much as I hate China I gotta admit that.
They loaned countries money to build infrastructure, with the stipulation that it was built with Chinese materials, Chinese workers, etc. The majority of the money from the loans was pumped right back into the Chinese economy. Then, the countries default, because of course they do that was the intention from the offset, and China gets to expand their influence over those countries. It's not just owning railroads, it's natural resources, the right to build military bases, voting with China in the UN (for all the good the UN does lmao), and generally supporting China on a large scale.
It was never an investment to make money. It was an investment in soft power, and in that regard it is paying massive dividends; especially compared to how they spend money at home, building massive infrastructure problems for no one just to temporarily bolster their economy. They got something for this.
The US shoulda loaned them the money to pay off the loans, and then did the same shit that China was going to do when they defaulted lmao

Did you see how China handled Covid? They have complete control over their citizens. They just locked everyone inside for a few weeks while they gassed the streets. It’s extremely plausible that they had extremely low covid rates because their citizens aren’t brainwashed morons and actually understand how quarantines work.
It’s not 1996 bro China has been outpacing the US in every measurable metric for since 2008 when they started their HSR expansion and the US cancelled theirs.
Chinas 47 largest cities have metros (an extremely good indicator of a cities economic sustainability). If the 47th biggest city in the US had one it would be Birmingham Alabama. Instead every city except NYC and Chicago are just a bunch of parking lots strung together by highways. I wonder why our national debt is skyrocketing? Could it be that our infrastructure doesn’t generate enough economic development to fund its maintenance. No it’s probably because we’re so awesome and our GDP is so great. A few weeks ago they were destroying everyones house plants, mindlessly spraying large areas with dangerous chemicals, and putting grates on gutters (flooding them) in southern China to fight Chukungunya. Most of what they did is well known to be stupid by experts. Putting fine grates on gutters probably made things worse by flooding large area, increasing mosquito breeding zones.
Recently there were leaks of government agents spraying chemicals on raw meat, probably to fight some other outbreak they're suppressing.
These aren't intelligent or well thought out policies. You can try to control the narrative, but coffins and satellite images don't lie.

Prior Chinese leaders literally admitted to making up their economic data. Beyond that, they set a GDP goal, and do whatever bullshit projects they need to do to hit that goal. That’s why if you count their all their actual national debt, they’re at something like 300% debt to GDP ratio because government spending and “investment” makes up almost 50% of their GDP.
They created the biggest housing bubble in history too. Which, looking at their impending demographic time bomb, is going to be that much worse in the long run, especially for managing their debt. Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t looking at imminent collapse or anything, but China’s economy already hit their high water mark about 5 years ago.
The US has some obvious problems too, but they’re just more obvious because we have a free and open society that doesn’t hide what’s going on economically and otherwise. It’s exponentially worse in China, but you have to really dig and understand macroeconomics to see the reality of their economy.
