What is the stereotypical “scapegoat” Balkan country in your country?

Aka the country that people mention when they want to say something along the lines of:
“Yeah it’s bad here, but have you seen x country? We were never that bad”
In BiH it’s Kosovo and Albania but especially Kosovo. In general, all ex-Yugoslavs have a superiority complex over other Balkan nations because of their better communism, but Albania and especially Kosovo are like the pearl-clutching countries. Like people gasp. And when I say people I mean the Slavic Muslims, Serbs and Croats alike.
I’m curious to see what the stereotype is in other nations. It wouldn’t be true Balkan spirit unless you blamed everyone but yourself lol

Bosnia, Serbia, sometimes Greece

Greece? What country is this? Lol
Ancient_Course5112@reddit
Used to have a pretty common saying in Croatia of: “failed like Greece” - “propao kao Grčka”

Ex-Yu (excluding Slovenia)+Albania. Some elders may comment something about Romania and Bulgaria (since they only remeber them from the 80s and 90s) but a lot of us see them in a more positive way (infrastructure improvment over the years, eu funding metros etc. which were a topic in our media in a way that we're so stupid we can't get EU funds for decent public transport yet RO and BG got proper metro lines with the help of funds)

We only have Greece south of us , so we go with Africa or Mogadishu. Not to say that we are better that them but we are worst than them.

I found it funny though cause i see all the Balkan countries similiar to Africa.

Bulgaria or non-EU countries like Serbia or Albania. Hungary and Moldova too if we count them as Balkan.
Altho in the past few years Moldova has recieved praise for it's political situation
Similar-Truth7391@reddit
Do roamianas genuinely believe Bulgaria is in a worse situation in any way or form from them? I would say any differences are marginal. It's like how people say Greece is somehow decades ahead of the rest of the balkans but in reality it's really about the same shit.
OsarmaBeanLatin@reddit
Yes. People might praise them for better highways or better beaches but generally it's seen as that one EU country that makes us look better

As a Slovenian, anyone east and south of us

Albania.

Scapegoat in Albanian translates as "koke turku" which means "turkish head", further on, when we refer to a backward place we refer to as Anatolia, but when we visited Turkey for the past 30 years and realized it is far better, i think everyone just says Albania now.
OverallPhrase4623@reddit
Regarding political stability, it’s BiH, but other than that I can’t think of any.

Ex Yu countries (except Slovenia)
