I like the fatal conceit (also Hayak) personally. It is relatively short and just bangs it's point home until it burned into your brain - central planning is a complete fantasy, a fatal conceit.
It's actually a great place to start for some new libertarians. Because once you accept central planning is impossible, everything makes sense. Why does the FED suck? They're central planners. Why does section 8, food stamps, and all welfare fail despite its noble intentions? Central planning doesn't work. It's actually one of the core thesis of libertarianism (other than the NAP) - central planning doesn't work.
This is wild that this comment got 62 down votes on r/libertarian. If you don't think communism leads to authoritarianism, you are a moron and certainly not a libertarian.
All communism is authoritarian, but not all authoritarianism is communism. That's the point that we're making, that's why you all are getting downvoted.
The common historical failure with communism is that it takes absolute control to convert an entire nation into a communist state, but the leader is supposed to hand that power back to the state to complete the conversion. However, once absolute power is achieved, these individuals often do not hand it back to the state / people, become corrupt, and thus, the state converts to an authoritarian one.
And that is bad - we don’t want that - but that isn’t communism. People don’t realize how idiotic they sound when they throw this term around having no concept of what it means.
Thats the trouble with under informed people - they don’t know they are under informed and the power systems exploit that to manipulate you into thinking how they want you to think.
And what? The fear is the next step after the digital ID is the social credit score and allowing the government to tell you where you can travel and what you can buy with your money. Just a road to having more control.
That comes after your id is tied to your ability to purchase things. There are already apps in the us used to judge workers and give them a score based on what their bosses say.
The US had ID, but it isn't tied to your banking. It is used to confirm your identity only. It does not store your money, or control access to spending.
Yeah but that was because they didn’t want to stay home all day and lose their livelihood because a bunch of corrupt statists made a virus in a lab in china and wanted to cover it up.
This is way too low on the feed. Even on libertarians it’s somehow become partisan- one side or another. Just feeding the problem rather than admitting both sides are bad, so we can come together as a nation to fix things.
One of my employees from khazakstan was going on and on about how great it is until I pointed out that one corrupt official could instantly cut you out of basically all aspects of society on a whim. His response was...it will never happen.
It’s not an excuse, it’s THE reasoning. The European WW2 postmortem TLDR is: any form of nationalism / patriotism is bad + our people can’t be trusted. Therefore the state must expand to fill all gaps and ensure that everyone is in line. Else people will do what’s best for them, and that causes conflict.
On the brightside it only ends one of two ways: Europe dies, or revolution. My money is on death.
They have people so divided via the internet and extreme political ideology they have a hard time uniting over where to grab pizza much less a revolution. The powers at be did it so on purpose, all part of their big plan.
Over my dead body. I have a British passport and an NI number. That's all they need. 20 yes ago, the UK government felt like they were across the road. Today, it feels like they're in my bloody lounge.
Not misleading, Labour been centre right since Blair at least, left tried to make a comeback under Corbyn but ole Keith began purging pretty much immediately.
I don't know what that has to do with my comment? I'm just pointing out that in modern Britain the Labour Party and Keith are right of centre/ right wing.
I’m agreeing with your sentiment. I thought it, then read your comment, then tte very next comment was the comment I was going to make so I corralled a third into the situation. It’s authoritarianism which… all communists are authoritarians, not all authoritarians are communists.
Garrett119@reddit
This is authoritarianism, not really communism
Chris_The_Guinea_Pig@reddit
Communism kinda implies authoritarianism if it's going to be implemented onto a whole society
ENVYisEVIL@reddit (OP)
Communism always results in authoritarianism because it is not compatible with those seeking freedom, liberty, and free market capitalism.
You saying such an asinine statement demonstrates a severe lack of understanding the history of communism being attempted over the last 120 years.
BadAndNationwide@reddit
Sounds like you’ve read Hayek
ENVYisEVIL@reddit (OP)
Yes! Hayek, Mises, Hoppe, Hazlitt, and Rothbard’s books are the medicine for communism’s brainwashing.
I know this from my own personal experience as a former commie.
