We are allowed to worry about other stuff, and this has nothing to do with the US other than their fascism related instability that China is taking advantage of.
Alternative-Deal8327@reddit
Why would the US worry about China reunifying? Or Korea for that matter? I have never understood why we should care.
alwaysonesteptoofar@reddit
Reunification by vote is one thing (if it's proven to be fair and valid, unlike Crimea for a somewhat recent example), but if we let people invade whoever they think has their land we eventually see a larger war between regional powers and then a nuclear strike enters the realm of possibility. The world is getting dangerous and if this keeps going we are all fucked.
It may seem like a joke in 2025, but during the Cold War, the doomsday clock never got closer to midnight than around 2 minutes, or 120 seconds. As of January this year, it's at 89 seconds. I dont out much stock in it, but the general idea of trying to guess how close we are to killing ourselves as a species isn't a bad one if we make good decisions with that guess. We aren't, and the fact that it's been steadily getting closer since 2018 or so should concern us even if it's an abstraction of various factors and compiled by a private group.
castratikron13@reddit
I wish they would hurry up and take over the world. I'm already losing rights, may as well have some healthcare & high-speed rail.
texas21217@reddit
That’s kinda how I feel about it. If we’re gonna have dictators, let’s live in the futuristic cities they have.
Alternative-Deal8327@reddit
You can have a dictatorship of the proletariat or a dictatorship of capital.
AzureWave313@reddit
Say you know nothing about their government some more lmao. You wouldn’t enjoy how the CCP treats foreigners. It can get pretty nasty. Plus you do have to pay for healthcare there. Yeah their trains are cool but acting like there aren’t any problems in China is seriously small-brain shit.
No-Fail7484@reddit
Bad place. No rights and crazy laws. Cruelty is off the charts. Nothing good about the place. Even their people are stopping having kids so the kids don’t suffer the same fate. They have to force them to have kids it appears
FearsomeForehand@reddit
You right. US wasn’t always like this though.
DeleteriousDiploid@reddit
China doesn't have universal healthcare either. Their system is pretty much the same as what the US has but with somewhat lower prices, less insurance company stuff, lower standards and more nonsense. ie. The reason China uses 10 times more antibiotics per capita than the US is because they prescribe them for everything even if no bacterial infection is involved. Part of the reason that happens is because to be a doctor in China you need to be in the party and that results in some people ending up as doctors via corruption rather than learning.
https://www.thinkglobalhealth.org/article/chinas-role-global-antimicrobial-resistance
Basic treatment is generally cheaper than the US but more complex stuff like cancer treatment is still so expensive that people will end up dying because they cannot afford it. There's also the issue with a lot of TCM stuff that has no efficacy but which is still prescribe by doctors within the same system.
Pizzasupreme00@reddit

You will get disappeared to a reeducation camp for talking negatively about the CCP. They almost certainly are doing some form of genocide against the Uyghurs, with massive prison camps. Some reports even claim there is organ harvesting there, on living people.
China is not coming to “liberate” anyone. They are not even wasting breath to liberate themselves.
SofieTheRonin@reddit
Thats probably one of my main thoughts. Like if most people dont agree with whats happening here, we’d be getting liberated no? So if we get invaded or bombed what happens to the people with their head on straight? Or the general masses.

Xi has got to be assuming, if they try an invasion, that Taiwan would attempt any and everything to stop it. I think we are looking at multiple big dams getting blown to smithereens. That’s how you win a war with China. You tell them, I’m going to blow up Three Gorges, what’s Xi gonna do, be responsible for a couple hundred million dead citizens?
nixstyx@reddit
What weapons does Taiwan have that could destroy Three Gorges without gaining air superiority?
bengenj@reddit
They have F-16s with AGM-65G2s that pack 140 kilos of explosives with every missile and they possess a handfuls of AGM-84H SLAM-ER air to surface cruise missiles (operational range of 270km) and 360 kilos of explosives. A few F-16s going supersonic could quite quickly scramble, fire their ordinance, and scatter before AA guns can react. Gravity dams are quite durable, but several impacts and explosive energy might be enough to cause enough damage that water does the rest (considering that they 39.3 km^3 of water held back by the dam).
However, Taiwan acknowledges that the durability of the dam is very high and is not a very high target (most of their targets would obviously be military installations of the People’s Liberation Army) and the PLA says that they have enough protection to prevent the damage from occurring
nixstyx@reddit
Tell me you don't know how air defense works without telling me. Iraq shot down seven USF-16s in Desert Storm. China has far better air defense and far more capable stealth fighters.
NotAMeatPopsicle@reddit
Given the volume of F-16 sorties, the statistics were in favor of someone eventually getting hit.
nixstyx@reddit
Yes. But also, comparing Iraq's '90s air defense capabilities to China's current capabilities is night and day. Plus the F-16 platform is old technology at this point. It does not have stealth capabilities so in order to conduct effective air to surface strikes it needs air superiority or it's going to be easy pickings for modern AA and China's 6th gen stealth fighters.
NotAMeatPopsicle@reddit
Yes, but you don’t need them to all survive. Not when you have pilots desperately motivated to save their homeland.
Salsa_El_Mariachi@reddit
please tell me what ordnance an F16 can carry that could put a dent in a gravity dam the size of Three Gorges.
NotAMeatPopsicle@reddit
Give a sufficiently motivated engineer enough time and they’ll handle the “details”.

Comfortable_Tart_297@reddit
an AGM-65G2 is gonna be like a rat's fart when faced with 50 meters of concrete lmao. F16s would have to travel several thousand kilometers into the heart of China without being spotted by radar. it's impossible.
AVAforever@reddit
The ones provided by an unnamed ally
nixstyx@reddit
Ok, what would those be? There is no weapon that the US or any unnamed ally could provide Taiwan that it would be capable of using to strike Three Gorges without gaining air superioritiy aside from a nuclear ballistic missle.
27Rench27@reddit

THE_Black_Delegation@reddit
No, that's how Taiwan get nuked via counter value targets. The US would get nuked for targeting the 3GD as well...
Mount_Treverest@reddit
Nuking Taiwan renders capturing it irrelevant for a few decades. While potentially losing the industrial center and 100 million people. It's a crazy lose lose.
THE_Black_Delegation@reddit
Not if the goal is to strangle the US and her allies from advanced chip making and to then have the next best thing already being domestically made.
The moment those chips are able to be manufactured outside of Taiwan, my bet is the US abandons Taiwan as it is no longer needed. Taiwan would be crazy to allow a single chip to be made outside of its borders
Mount_Treverest@reddit
The US makes chips and has plants set to go online. The US government now owns 10% of intel. TSMC has an Arizona plant that could be set up as a new world headquarters. If it came to nuking Taiwan after a 3G demolishon, China would still be worse off. They'd lose a 1/4 of the mainland to flood while vastly delaying the use of the island they want to reunite with. It's a high strategic target because it's an environmental nuke. Which would probably make it a top 5 protected site in China, maybe the world.
cyanescens_burn@reddit
The US doesn’t have the skilled workforce that Taiwan has. It’s but just an issue of having the infrastructure. You need the technical skills, and making those chips is very specialized. It’s not like putting doors on cars.

Striper_Cape@reddit
I wanna know why yall think that a gravity dam would be easy to destroy
Mount_Treverest@reddit
The gravity dam would be a major target because it's a gravity dam. The sheer amount of water displacement would flood the industrial heart of China. It's not easy, but if you concentrate enough bunker busters to breach it, gravity, water pressure, and fluid dynamics will do a lot of the demolition itself.

Frequent_Can117@reddit
China’s navy, as of now, is not a blue water navy. Their troops and small arms, pathetic. No combat experience for decades, and if they are looking to the Russians for help, they’ll just learn how to get their ass whooped. Rocket corps, highly corrupt (and Russia is a prime example of what corruption does to warfighting capabilities. You lose). Using a nuke would cause them to perish. Xi is dumb but not that dumb. They really think they can pull off an amphibious invasion? They’d have to deal with the US, s battle hardened military with modern doctrine and better equipment, and a blue water navy. They also would have to deal with Australia and Japan alongside us. Who does Russia have? Poorly trained Russian conscripts, shit North Koreans? They are allied with weak losers and they need to accept that and stay in their fucking lane.
China starting the war is escalation. Response to that, is that: a response. They don’t want to get attacked, then they can fuck off and stay in their corner
khoawala@reddit
A service economy station isn't going to win against a major manufacturing nation, especially one that has been piling up weapons nonstop with peace time. It's like the American civil war where the north had no experienced military but a major manufacturing economy vs the South. The North lost every battle at first but eventually completely overran the South.

Frequent_Can117@reddit
Yup! It’s how you constantly adapt and stay combat ready, rather than complacent. China wouldn’t last against us.
MESSIISTHEMESSIAH@reddit
Lol, what a severely misinformed take. Anybody who put any effort into analyzing the PLA capabilities will realize that the gap between China and US is smaller than many think, and it's closing rapidly. In some areas, China has already pulled ahead. The combat experience of the US military is irrelevant when the last time they fought a near peer war was ww2. I wouldn't even call their doctrine modern when the majority of the US military is still stuck in the GWOT mindset. You can underestimate the Chinese military all you want, but just remember what happened to the Russian Navy at Tsushima or what happened to American pilots when they underestimated the Zero fighter in 1941.
LassenDiscard@reddit

No, we didn't just offshore it to Taiwan. The other companies simply are not competitive.
Intel and GlobalFoundries both manufacture in the US, neither is competitive with TSMC. We have other smaller players as well, but no one matches TSMC.
TSMC also produces wafers in the US, and is working on an additional fab assuming Trump doesn't fuck it up, but they will not use their most advanced processes here.

America is building for some of the clunkier child but that’s it. Nothing that can guide a jet or a rocket. We are shut off from all the stuff needed to manufacture the stuff for that anyway. Frequent_Can117@reddit
China is an authoritarian shit hole with no honor. And a weak one at that. A weak ass navy, no combat experience for decades, shit small arms, behind in fighter jets. Yeah they have numbers in their military, but just bullet sponges based on that.
They have a culture that normalizes cheating to get ahead, and cheating in recreation (Chinese gamers should be region locked. They just cheat because they have no skill to win and instead of actually improving, they just cheat like a bitch would.) They are talking big for a country that would get their ass spanked, like their weak friends of Russia.
Tradtrade@reddit
And America…none of that applies? Isn’t ice using chemical agents banned in war on your police and citizens while kidnapping random people to third party countries?
Frequent_Can117@reddit
In warfighting capabilities, reach, combat readiness, effectiveness, troops who want to be there (volunteer force), and have way more experience than China could hope to have. Militarily, China isn’t ready to take on a peer and it’s laughably pathetic they think they can.
You talking about tear gas/ pepper spray, you know less lethals? Dude, I had to breathe that shit in during boot camp for the navy. It ain’t that bad. How ICE is using it (and ICE as a whole) I have problems with. Escalating on civilians, shooting them in the head with pepper balls. It’s fucked up. Kidnapping of people, no due process, I absolutely agree it’s terrible. Look, internally with our issues it’s bad, I don’t like it, and it needs to change.
Compared to China, we are still better: We don’t have a culture of cheating (The another child saying in China. Parents making up a fake kid that’s succeeding to make their child succeed at all costs, including being a pathetic cheater), which they do, and for them to think it’s okay and a sense of strength (like the piss poor ‘saving face’ bullshit) is delusional and shameful. If they have to cheat, they will never be better than their competition, because their competition has skills where they don’t.
Doesn’t China have: Social credit and massive surveillance to hold down their people? Round up the uyghers on trains, forcing them into a concentrated area? Aiding Russia in their war, only to waste time because Russia won’t win? Massacred civilians in Tiananmen Square, where it was filmed, and DENIED it despite the clear cut case? (Again, that weak saving face shit). And that’s just scratching the surface.
China is militarily a regional power that thinks they stand a chance in a fight, when anyone that follows the history of war knows other than numbers (and nukes they won’t use because they’d cease to exist) they are a shit military confined to south east asia because they don’t have the force capability to project further.
valente317@reddit
You think China would pay for hundreds of thousands of Americans to get dialysis three times a week? Lmao. Say goodbye to anyone you know with kidney disease. Oh and all those organs they harvest to sell directly to people with money who need transplants? Yeah I’m sure the tens of thousands on the liver transplant waitlist are thrilled at the idea of China taking over!
Tradtrade@reddit
I didn’t say I’m pro China. I have 3 citizenships and all the countries have great health care access. I’m just consistently surprised how more Americans dont see what other countries having going on and see how green the grass is on lots of things

You would be a fool to not use the chaos that Trump introduces to invade Taiwan.
DalmationStallion@reddit
I mean, that’s been my plan since he won the 2024 election.
anxious_differential@reddit
Don't care. No American should die for Taiwan. If they can't do it themselves, we shouldn't have to.

It’s more about sacrificing Americans for the American way of life. If Taiwan’s semiconductor factories are destroyed.. there goes our (privileged) way of life. Think of everything we use/buy that has those chips, including military hardware. If those factories fall though, I’m with you. Sanction the shit out of China and build chip factories at home asap. How we handle Taiwan will define the next century and what superpower stays on top. China is ecstatic that we’re fighting with each other and trump is in charge. We’re a joke right now.
coop_stain@reddit
We are decades away from having functional semiconductor factories on par with Taiwan…it would cripple most of the planet (with the exception of I think Denmark who develops the machines that make the semi conductors in Taiwan?).
17thomas76@reddit
I agree it would cripple us in the short term but don’t you think major resources would be dedicated to ramping up production and making it a USA exclusive development/production? Think WW2 when Ford converted its factories to produce planes instead of cars. My hope would be a short term 5-8 year covid style slump with big name companies betting big on being the next TSMC. Creating the most cutting edge chips here and not being dependent on Taiwan is good long term.
Excuse the formatting, just word vomit at this point about to go to bed.
coop_stain@reddit
You’re right it is, and we should be doing exactly that, but when we’re talking about the amount of really, really, and I can’t stress this enough, REALLY in depth technical knowledge of how to do this correctly to the level we need them to be made at, even with all the materials at hand only comes with decades of doing it. Which we (and just about every other country) are decades behind in. This is ridiculously specialized knowledge that can’t be simply taught or replicated with AI. To bring it back to your point about WWII. Our stuff was functional, but not super technical or powerful in comparison to Germany. We were simply able to mass produce at a level they couldn’t compete with (which is a power in and pf itself). The Panzer 2 tank was inarguably the most technical and incredible tank of the war, but it was so technical they couldn’t build enough to keep up with the amount of comparatively simple Shermans we could field. Same goes for a lot of their weaponry, although we caught up in the later years.
That doesn’t even get into the fact that once/if/when those older managers and workers die, much if not most of their knowledge does with them.
long_4_truth@reddit
Aren’t they already in the works of having chip building factories in the US (a bit off I think), to circumvent a shortage - I’d wager for military supply honestly. Screw your vehicle, phone or laptop.
But yeah, all a person has to do is look at how covid and the shutdowns had a massive impact on vehicle and electronics production. A ton of vehicles waiting on some chip or sensor and mothballed till they became available. Just a shell with no brains.
kitkatmike@reddit
Our enemies are relieved when there are people like you in our society hoping to break down our alliances across the world. Zero foresight. If Americans kept thinking like you during WW2, we'd be speaking German by now. Although you might prefer that more.
coop_stain@reddit
This is the objectively wrong take. We need Taiwan to be independent as long as they are the major developer of high end computer chips and we are decades (at best) away from being self sustainable on that front. We need to keep doing what we have been doing. Projecting a presence, arming and training them to defend themselves, and encouraging them to take the threat seriously (which they are). You should look into the game plan for defending their inevitable invasion (China needs them more than we need them independent). It’s pretty damn robust. Including small island chains that are armed to the fuckin teeth, specialized fighter jets that are cheap to maintain and fast as fuck, and arming their populace. It’s actually pretty impressive…on par with the moves Poland has been making for their own inevitable invasion.

Nobody cares. We have our boat parked off every coast all the time. China never heard of MEU's. We are always ready so we dont have to get ready. 1st rule. America should adopt a zero tolerance policy to shooting anything in NATO airspace. No escorts for mistakes. Just hellfires.

P__Riches@reddit
Never has been a reliable ally. But never have been policeman. It's more like proxy men. The Ukraine war has been one of the greatest accomplishments against a "big" foreign advocacy. Made Russia look like a little bitch by propping up a small baltic country with training weapons and live satilite intel.
If there are history books after this, they will tell these tells of men dying in mass by us just pointing at a screen. We never had to set foot in mascow for putin to literally stumble on his own foot.

Tradtrade@reddit
Cannabis use has been shown to impair cognitive functions on a number of levels—from basic motor coordination to more complex executive function tasks, such as the ability to plan, organize, solve problems, make decisions, remember, and control emotions and behavior. These deficits differ in severity depending on the quantity, recency, age of onset and duration of marijuana use. Understanding how cannabis use impairs executive function is important. Individuals with cannabis-related impairment in executive functions have been found to have trouble learning and applying the skills required for successful recovery, putting them at increased risk for relapse to cannabis use. Here we review the research on the acute, residual, and long-term effects of cannabis use on executive functions, and discuss the implications for treatment.

China has been very open about taking Taiwan.
Ilove-moistholes@reddit
I wish I was. China talked like that because the US is wanting to use Taiwan as a stage area to attack mainland China. Let’s all go back to high school, and remember the Cuban missile crisis. A sovereign nation was attacked and later shunned for having missiles from a 3rd country. Let’s all remember how the US threaten with nuclear holocaust unless those Cuban missiles were sent back. Think about that very very hard. The US meddle in the business of 2 separate independent nations yet you complain about China and Taiwan, lmao! Americans
