We're relatively new to the subject bit we have decades of fixing everything from cars to golf trolleys.
Ive learned quote a lot already. Enough to get started. I am an electrician with a degree in electrical energy systems. Speed lots of studies on motors, batteries, variable speed controllers to name a few relevant areas involved in ebikes and scooters.
If your local you can look up the group on Facebook by typing "Arhy e bike repair"
Or you can WhatsApp me on +353858208224.
There's no one in this quarter of the country doing it and with the boom in sales repairs are going to be needed.
Thanks for listening and join the group if your interested any advice is always welcome 🙏

Good luck on matching electrical components to all those generic original Chinese parts! How are you going to make money while you wait from parts from China, hope you have storage for bikes that are waiting months for parts!

Well, for example when my father was starting out he had a similar problem. Didn't take too long to figure out the common points of failure and stock up on the most common dud parts. And a broken bike is going nowhere fast
First groups of customers may have to wait but there's no one else offering to fix them so my yard goes from having a dozen golf trolleys to a dozen bikes sitting around no big deal to me.

I do get what rich was saying, I made my own harness for my bike and the colours DO NOT Correspond to the wiring diagram....

Oh he's 100% right.
But I learned by watching my father. He went from not having a clue to a expert through trial and error in maybe a year and a half.
Now there's a lot more bike models to deal with but there going to share a lot of the same mechanical and electrical problems.
These bikes are going to be sitting somewhere broken. Better off sitting round mine with me getting to the bottom of the problem than rotting in someone's yard.
There's only so many components to an ebike. I'll test them 1 by 1 if I have to. I'm confident I'm my abilities. Sure I'll make mistakes but that's the best way to learn

Go for it, i'm with you all the way oh, and here is my bike tax

Thats a beautiful bike. Did you do the build? Its got 12 gears right? Man id id love an extra 5 gears. When I'm in pas 5 I just feel like in in first gear wanna push a bit harder
Kevintj07@reddit
Yep, this is my 3rd bike with the same motor and it was the only bike I could find that fitted my gear and I did all the wiring and fuck me its a nightmare but satisfying in the end.
No, the bike came with 11 speed BBSHD's have to be 8 its the cheapest way but with this bike I could only have 1 - 6 or 3 - 8 so only 6 gears so I went top end.
Then I found a hack to dissemble the cassette and move the gears I don't want to the the area my derailleur wont go. Its all gearing, whats on yours?
LargeNerdKid@reddit (OP)
Man what i know about bafang and BBSHD would fit on a stamp. I really need to learn if I'm gonna repair the things.
My mine came with 7. When I'm pedalling at PAS 5 at 55kph i feel like I'm in first gear I want to work a bit harder at that speed for the exercise it just too easy. Id love another 3 or 4 gears.
Kevintj07@reddit
You cant really go that much faster its about the cassette gearing and why I built my own.You need to reprogram the controller as well.
LargeNerdKid@reddit (OP)
I don't really want to go faster. I'm happy with the speed is just wish I could have a heavier/more resistance at that speed if that makes sense. Its about how if feels. I dunno...
Kevintj07@reddit
With the bbs you can do that, just get an Eggrider, its better that the standard.
LargeNerdKid@reddit (OP)
Cool, if it do a bike build I'll definitely go mid-drive.
Thanks 👍

What about parts from Bafang middrive motors?
LargeNerdKid@reddit (OP)
What do you mean what about them? There's a large bafang community with plenty of parts available and a lot of people who will have seen every problem there is with them.

Been thinking the same thing. I live in Perth West oz and have always serviced my own bikes, cars and pushys and have built 3 bikes with the same BBSHD and have done nearly 30K on it and no bike shop will touch it. (Not that I want them to).
So yeh, with so many bikes out there its worth it,the only prob is insurance.
LargeNerdKid@reddit (OP)
Sounds very much like myself. Stick with what you know.
And if you've built a mid-drive you've 1 up on me already.
Its the same here rideca 250w or break the law are the options.
I've found a loophole though. Coswheel make a bike, gt20, and they provide it with a Certificate of Conformity. I confirmed with my government yesterday that with the Cozc I can submit the bike for testing to get it registered so I'll be able to insure it and ride legally. The best part it does 70kph but they put 45kph, the max allowed , on the certificate 😆
Kevintj07@reddit
Whats it look like, pics?
LargeNerdKid@reddit (OP)
Like this has indicators front and back. Only thing that might fail thectest is it's only got a hi beam. No longer beam. So I'm gonna replace it with one that has both before I get it tested

I'm from the south east of the country and I'm all for progression Island wide for this hobby/industry. Going to save this thread for future use.
I've DM'd you an small suggestion I feel might be worth checking into for experience business wise :)
LargeNerdKid@reddit (OP)
For the South East of Ireland is it??
TenMilePt@reddit
I started a similar business on the west coast of Canada. DM me if you wanted to chat.
LargeNerdKid@reddit (OP)
Thanks I absolutely will. I'm sure I'll get stuck and having a sounding board to bounce ideas off will be worth its weight in gold.
Cheers for the offer. Derek
