Diesel Brothers Influencer ‘Heavy D’ Arrested for Failure to Pay $850K in Environmental Lawsuit Fees

guy-anderson@reddit
To the extent that these guys have popularized "roaling coal" and deleting emissions systems on diesels, $850k in fines is not nearly enough to cover the damage they have caused.
DCCityCouncil@reddit
Get back in your honda fit and save the environment guy. Rolling coal was popular way before 2020
_Connor@reddit
Meanwhile Taylor Swifts jet alone flew 110,000 miles last year. Meanwhile China and India continue to indiscriminately dump raw waste into waterways.
Rolling coal is stupid as fuck, but keep your rage aimed at the wrong people. Deleting 100 trucks doesn't even come close to being the biggest issue we have.
usefulbuns@reddit
This isn't an either/or issue. Our rage should be aimed at all of them.
Emotional_Criticism4@reddit
Including your Prius?
The guys is making a valid point in the massive difference between the two if you are thinking fines to pollution ratio.
They are definitely trying to make an example out of him.
usefulbuns@reddit
They should be making an example out of him, he is in the business of glorifying a shitty thing that is harmful to the environment, illegal, and he even has a business that profits off of doing that illegal shitty thing.
Taylor Swift, and anybody else who regularly flies private, are absolutely worse than this guy. I'm just saying we don't need to only fight Swift. We should be addressing all of it.
I agree with you guys on many points, but I'm just saying we can do more collectively.
Emotional_Criticism4@reddit
I guess I just don’t see the glory that you do when I watch his videos or the emissions deletions that he did 10 years ago and I don’t believe you can make a lot of money as a mechanic from removing parts.
It’s entirely possible that I don’t understand the economics of deletions though
usefulbuns@reddit
It isn't just "removing parts" you have to sell a new tune for the engine as well. For the ECU. I'm not deeply knowledgeable about this topic but that's my understanding of it.
I'm not sure what you mean by glory, I could interpret that a few ways. It's not something I'm into at all, but for a lot of people he's a hero - so there's some glory for those.
hardinho@reddit
Rolling coal in residential areas has a direct effect and harm on people. Especially when I look at these fucking douchebags doing it on purpose especially when someone's around. TS and her jet are idiotic as well but at least it's not injecting cancer into my lungs directly and purposefully.
VincibleAndy@reddit
Less "but what about" and more "yes and this also"
c74@reddit
ok. tell us your judgement on what the fine should be. 850k is a whole lotta hotdogs.
PurchaseStreet9991@reddit
We defer to the courts for punishment. The court decides on $850k
Phioltes@reddit
Should by $850,000,000. These guys are straight trash and directly contribute to harming the environment and health of everyone around these coal rollers. They should be financially ruined for perpetuity for their actions.
And before any diesel apologist comes around. I drive a diesel truck, its cheap as shit to keep the emissions system running. If you can't afford it you couldn't afford any truck.
c74@reddit
that is kind of my point. it's also a 'my feelz i am mad' number. has no basis in reality. dude has no idea how to quantify damage caused if any. contributes nothing of value beyond virtue signalling for the all important reddit points.
Castro_66@reddit (OP)
It was pretty popular before, but they certainly didn't do much to help the environment.
Competitive-Draw8223@reddit
I have never been able to watch this guy., even though buying shit like a Blackhawk is something my dumbass would do. I just always get the “grifter” vibe whenever he’s involved in anything.
Beardedwrench115@reddit
I love big trucks, I'm a heavy duty mechanic, but there is no way that I can relate to a guy who can afford to buy a helicopter.
Competitive-Draw8223@reddit
I believe the issue is they always “grow” their channel beyond the means of their average viewer. People have brought up Cleetus Mcdarland. I have never watched him, but I always have YouTube shorts popping up about him. Yet everything I have seen is he purchased a racetrack, he has helicopters, he’s been in a few nascar(or sub-series) races. Even if I used to watch him, he’s reached a level that would no longer interest me.
Perfect example, I just to enjoy watching Hoovies Garage. He would go around the country and buy the cheapest version of certain cars. I still can’t believe he bought a C5 Z06 for$11k. Either way as a car guy I always found that interesting and looked forward to what he would buy next. Then he really got popular. Then it turn into look at the massive house/garage I am building for me and my mail order bride(I’m joking, but that marriage always seemed weird). I pretty much gave up watching his channel when he bought the “cheapest” phantom. Sure he couldn’t just keep buying cheap, everyday cars, but buying a fucking rolls Royce was enough for me.
suckmywake175@reddit
I still watch hoovie but can’t bring myself to watch Aprils channel. Sucks all his effort is going into propping her up.
Beardedwrench115@reddit
You hit the nail on the head. I used to watch cleetus regularly back when he was more about going fast in cheap cars and chasing records. Now I only occasionally watch his channel.
rotorain@reddit
It's crazy how Cleetus managed to stay relatable, I guess recognizing how lucky he is and not thinking he's better than everyone else goes a long way. Some people are wired to stay humble, shame the overlap with guys who get rich is so small.
Dude's got planes and helicopters, racecars and boats, two racetracks and an airfield but is still the same guy who just wants to do gearhead stuff with his friends and make videos about it.
Beardedwrench115@reddit
I don't really relate to him as much as I used to, but I do respect the good he has done in the racing community. Especially since his tracks are local to me.
rotorain@reddit
For sure, I will never be able to do 10% of the stuff he gets up to these days but I think that's why the cheap car challenges are so popular with the community. I can definitely relate to dumping a couple grand into a shitbox to go race my friends.
I wish I didn't live in the exact opposite corner of the country to support his events more, people dumping millions of dollars of their own money into racetracks for the love of the game is rare these days. Of course he wants to make money too but there's way better ways to do that if it was his only goal, he legitimately cares about the scene and that's refreshing in 2025.
ZeGentleman@reddit
He loses the plot when he's getting sponsored turbos and tires imo.
rotorain@reddit
Sure but he rightfully got roasted for that and fixed the loophole for the current cheap car challenge. It was also just a couple grand in parts, stuff that anyone with a racecar could buy he was just cheating the rules a little. It's not like they're doing a "cheap" car challenge with some wildly out of touch $100k budget or something.
IMI4tth3w@reddit
I’ve made this comment before about his cheap car challenges—99.99% of people cannot afford even a beater $7500 race car, yet they lose their minds when he gets a sponsored $1000 turbo and $700 in tires.
People try way too hard to make it relatable and need to just enjoy the entertainment.
rotorain@reddit
I think people were more salty about him circumventing the rules than the actual dollar value, an extra $1700 is almost a 25% budget increase and a huge advantage in the challenge.
I guess it depends on where you live but $7500 isn't an insane amount of money pretty much anywhere in the US. I wouldn't drop that much on a whim but I could spend $10k on a racecar next year if I cut back on my current hobbies to budget for it and I'm just a mechanic.
Beardedwrench115@reddit
That's a shame. I can tell you from experience that before he bought the freedom factory that place was a DUMP. I wish more creators would get involved in their local race tracks, relying on the old days is killing a lot of them.
ZeGentleman@reddit
I generally agree with you, but that house-building series isn't super relatable. And I always feel super weird when he rolls the PDS Debt ads.
rotorain@reddit
That's fair, he's definitely better than guys like heavy D though. And I never pay attention to the sponsored bits, some of them are a little tonedeaf but if it buys the shop AC or Leroy another transmission when it inevitably explodes I don't care. I'm skipping all of them except the shipstation ones anyways.
somedude456@reddit
Start small, build a channel, and don't change. Don't sell out. Look at James, aka The Stradman. I subbed early on when he just bought the Gallardo. Cool story, dude likes making YT videos, gets fired, buys a lambo and decides to make video on that subject. Ok, I'll watch.
I remember early on, he would "milk" any content possible, but it was still fun to watch. 1 video asking what color to wrap it, 1 video installing the wrap, 1 video showing his friends the wrap, 1 video on what his insurance costs are, 1 video on the maintenance costs, 1 video on asking if he should install a ski box, etc, etc.
Now he has a fucking Koenigsegg! But he hasn't changed. He's never mentioned politics. He never cusses. He doesn't drink even. He's never an asshole to anyone. It's just constant car related content.
Same with Cleetus.
rotorain@reddit
The "don't change" part is the hard part though. Money and being in charge does really bad things to so many people's brains, they start thinking that because they made it they're special. Or maybe the type of person who intentionally seeks wealth and power is already broken. Maybe it's a little of both, idk but not many people make it to even a Cleetus level without becoming detached from the reality that everyone else is living in and their humanity starts slipping away.
somedude456@reddit
I agree. Cleetus, Stradman, Heavy D... all automotive based, all can drop 40K on a video, and have fans who have 40K as their yearly income. But as said, it's about staying down to earth and cool about it.
marino1310@reddit
Pretty much all the big name YouTubers that clearly have like an entire crew and budget for car videos give me serious ick. They always tempt me with some crazy shit I’d totally do if I was rich but every time I watch them it just feels like a fake reality show or something. Idk. I guess I prefer YouTubers that aren’t making millions on YouTube revenue
MaximumStock7@reddit
If I had lottery money I would buy a Blackhawk and fly it around
Ok_Reputation3298@reddit
Judgement was ruled in march 2020. He had 5 years to pay up. What a jabroni lmao
suckmywake175@reddit
Kinda wonder if this is why he had the fire sale recently?
Iheartbaconz@reddit
Recently he opened up his lot for a fire sale on all of his junk. Guessing he didn’t make enough to pay the fine yet.
mrmr2120@reddit
He was asking ridiculous prices for junk, watched a number of videos of guys walking through laughing at the prices they were asking, then them making videos of how cheap they were going to sell stuff, just bait and switch
DeathCabForYeezus@reddit
Yeah, but not only that. If you read the 25 page order he's repeatedly failed to follow court orders on accounting matters, reporting the whereabouts of his assets, not transferring assets when ordered not to by the court, no-shows in court (which were purged and not considered here, but I found interesting) and more.
Even if you think you're being screwed, you will not win by playing games with the court. You just won't. Especially when you're a public personality who isn't disappearing off the map to Mexico or Nicaragua.
The order gives him ways to purge his contempt which is either 1) pay the money or 2) get up to date on all the accounting and asset information.
I dare say now that he has a burner under his ass, option 2 is going to happen at lightspeed.
band-of-horses@reddit
He spent all his money buying and fixing up a black hawk helicopter, he can’t afford to pay fines!
Confident_Season1207@reddit
That just seems like it would be money constantly down the drain just on upkeep and running costs
jcforbes@reddit
To be clear, it's one of several very high end helicopters he owns. He also has two Dauphin's similar to what many medivacs and coast guards use. There's a couple others as well, and also a Frog which is basically a baby Chinook with dual rotors.
Confident_Season1207@reddit
Didn't know that. Couldn't really stand his show too much anyways. Sounds like he could have sold some stuff and paid the fine
jcforbes@reddit
He actually bought most of this during the time frame between the fine being issued and today.
Confident_Season1207@reddit
So you're saying he deserves what he gets since he had the chance? Oh well, there are so many other good car shows that were better than his.
A_Pointy_Rock@reddit
But think of all that money you're saving on private helicopter charters.
band-of-horses@reddit
Really how can you afford not to buy a helicopter.
10000Didgeridoos@reddit
Yes. No one person can just keep military aircraft flying. Those things need untold man hours of work per hour of flight to keep in spec. On top of proprietary tools and parts, you'd need to hire military trained mechanics. It's like buying a decommissioned fighter jet. Good luck.
ypk_jpk@reddit
I can't imagine the cost of an annual or a progressive inspection for decom'd military aircraft. Owning one seems super cool but is a nightmare in reality Im sure
gimpwiz@reddit
Individual helicopter ownership is a rich man's game, for sure. Not like "comfortably off," but "has a wikipedia page because of the company they started/sold" rich. Otherwise a charter service for rich people, or a tourist service that's never spending enough money on maintenance because charging $200 per head to circle Kauai seems to be actually not enough to maintain those fuckers and also make a profit.
carsarefuntodrive@reddit
"If it floats, fucks, or flies, you're better off renting."
Car-face@reddit
And of all the things you can't skimp on maintenance for, I feel like a helicopter is up there, considering they have a very...digital way of flying when things go wrong.
band-of-horses@reddit
I mean when your "job" is being a content creator, it's just a business expense and tax deduction.
trail-g62Bim@reddit
That doesn't mean you don't still need the money to spend or that it isn't needed elsewhere.
asodfhgiqowgrq2piwhy@reddit
If I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy the only Black hawk helicopter that exists that will ever be sold to and owned by a civilian, I'm figuring out a way to buy it.
iPoopAtChu@reddit
To be fair I'd also much rather buy a fucking blackhawk than pay fines.
molrobocop@reddit
If that's the case, I understand his priorities. Helicopter, bro.
Ok_Reputation3298@reddit
Not just helicopter. Blackhawk. Comes with freedom delivery!
DaveCootchie@reddit
"You can't just helicopter away from your problems Heavy D!"
Longjumping_Hyena_52@reddit
Thinking ahead for the prison escape video
SwissMargiela@reddit
Idk what it is but this dude always pissed me off for some reason 😂
srcorvettez06@reddit
Whistlin Diesel is somehow worse.
gabebps@reddit
WD is annoying, but you can tell he’s actually dumb, so it’s kinda okay-ish and low key entertaining
but these Diesel Brothers always pissed me off for absolutely no reason 😅
Cessnaporsche01@reddit
I've seen them in a couple videos with MORR and Cleetus, and they always come across as douchey and kinda... unconcerned? about anyone else like everyone is beneath them. Basically wealth-flaunting supercar influencers of the off-road world.
slyfox7187@reddit
Tailored facial hair mixed with the diesel bro explained all I needed to know when I first saw him. Having worked with the exact people that he is, I can confidently say you are right on the money.
Antec800@reddit
Tailored facial hair?
suckmywake175@reddit
Richard Rawlings has entered the chat…
hammondrckr@reddit
Yeah, can you believe this uppity bastard actually grooms himself? The nerve on some of these ultra rich YouTube bros that just rub it in your face.
Koil_ting@reddit
Seems pretty gay to me.
SalvageCorveteCont@reddit
Shaving at home is pretty new, the safety razor is only like 150 years old, so it wasn't possible before then, and didn't take off until later on, I want to say that it was the Great Depression or WW1 that made going to a barber to get shaved no longer the norm.
natesully33@reddit
Grooming is fine, of course, but there's just something off about people that try super hard to maintain a particular image. At least I think that's what u/slyfox7187 is talking about. In this case the guy just looks like a "diesel bro but super clean" which seems like a silly thing to try and be to me.
Compare I Do Cars guy or Hater's Garage guy - just chill people doing the thing, rather than trying to be the thing. I suppose they aren't "influencers" which helps a bit too.
RandomGenName1234@reddit
Hater's Garage is the goat
Hercusleaze@reddit
Ha, Haters Garage is great, wish he'd post more often.
STMIHA@reddit
This is a great way of phrasing it. Reminds me of Dan Blizerian or whatever his name is.
beermit@reddit
I watched that collab they did with MORR where they were clearing those cars out of the canyon and Heavy D's half of it was much more annoying to watch. He came off as very self important and the editing was just obnoxious. I get they were probably trying to spoof reality TV dramatic shots at different points but there was just a tinge of sincerety to it like they thought they were actually being that dramatic.
throw_me_away3478@reddit
He's the exact opposite of Matt from MORR lol. The contrast is pretty funny
k0fi96@reddit
In now WD defender but the guy is not dumb. He is playing a character and it's worked to make him millions. Making it seem all random is part of the bit. It's definitely calculated. Besides the Ferrari burning down. That was all dumb
stealthybutthole@reddit
People thought it was a character until recently. Turns out he really is dumb.
k0fi96@reddit
I haven't watched a video of his in a while, but I do watch a lot of YouTube, chances are if you have an opinion of a creator is because that's how they want you to view them.
mondestine@reddit
WD was pushing that day trading scam and then when coffeezilla was giving him the benefit of the doubt by merely suggesting that WD fell for the scam rather was a part of it...he openly doubled, hell, tripled down and defended the scammer over and over again. Or that one recent IG post where WD was asking for a business who would redo his garage flooring and he would "pay" in exposure. Because WD's advertising to a bunch of 10 year olds is really better than actual payment. WD should be offering to pay a garage flooring business what they're worth and THEN he promotes their business because they're a great business that deserves it. Instead he just wants to scam. If you're suggesting that WD wants the world to view him that way? Perhaps he isn't so smart after all.
stealthybutthole@reddit
If you haven't watched a video of his in a while why are you acting like you know WTF you're talking about? He made a video with a crypto scam influencer (and then doubled down when someone told him it was a scam) and is currently melting down because people are calling his russian girlfriend (who speaks zero english) a gold digger.
Was his wife divorcing him just a bit too? lol
somedude456@reddit
You do understand YouTubers "act" in videos right?
That's WD's whole bit, doing serious shit while pretending to not realize it's dangerous.
Fordfan8888@reddit
I'll never understand why people try so hard to defend Cody, he is and always has been an arrogant asshole. He ain't putting on an act, he's just a dumb punk ass kid that got lucky and had his YouTube channel take off.
hatsune_aru@reddit
Did we forget the bullshit that happened for the last few months?
Turns out he actually is an asshole and a dumbass
somedude456@reddit
No clue what you're talking about. I don't follow him like a religion. I just click his videos sometimes and watch him destroy things.
bqiipd@reddit
So then you must necessarily admit that you are wrong, since you made a baseless assertion that you cannot back up with any evidence, right? You wouldn't just... say something in the internet with no real knowledge of what you're talking about... would you? Like that dumbass cartuber did?
somedude456@reddit
Nope!
bqiipd@reddit
Good to know there's reasonable and non-delusional people everywhere you look these days
intern_steve@reddit
So... What are you talking about? I only know about this guy because he broke a cyber truck in half, and bent an F-150 in half.
ahorrribledrummer@reddit
WD actually strikes me as pretty smart/competent and fell into a gold mine of automotive brainrot
jimmysmatcha@reddit
More like midwit level intelligence considering the video with the daytrading scammer and falling for the gold digger meme
ahorrribledrummer@reddit
Evidently I need to watch more of his recent stuff??
Speedy_SpeedBoi@reddit
Coffeezilla did a video about the day trading scam, which opened going over the WD video, but he honestly gives WD the benefit of the doubt thinking he also fell into the scam. Most of the video is talking about the d-bag scammer who is probably faking the trades because he doesn't show real accounts, and how WD is giving this shitbag a huge audience to exploit, likely by accident. WD doubled and tripled down trying to argue with Coffeezilla and ended up making a complete ass of himself because busting shady financial BS is Zillas primary gig and he knows a lot about it. It made WD look dumb af, and he couldn't accept that he got played by a scam artist for exposure.
hatsune_aru@reddit
Don't forget he was bragging about his girlfriend not being a gold digger and how much she's not a gold digger and how he's totally not being scammed
It looked really fucking insecure, and if this is an act, it really sounds like he's romance scamming his girlfriend.
txmail@reddit
I am pretty convinced at this point that it is just a bit they are playing to boost both of their numbers.
strongmanass@reddit
Now you're getting into things that aren't generally considered "intelligence" - i.e. once you combine emotion with what people consider "intelligence (IQ) you get a very different result.
And yeah there's emotional intelligence, but once most people be one emotionally invested in something or someone they do irrational things. But most people who get taken advantage of by gold diggers have the luxury of it not being public knowledge and entertainment.
oholto@reddit
Eh, he has some really terrible takes that he posts on instagram stories
txmail@reddit
He has some bad takes I can see as being a fake and only put out there to rile people up and get people talking about him.
The people he is surrounding himself with on the other hand.... that just shows the character he is. Working with known scammers and re-posting reels from people accused of human trafficking (and other criminal activities) is on another level.
R_V_Z@reddit
Do those terrible takes drive engagement?
rotorain@reddit
Yep, his entire schtick is doing and saying as much dumb shit as possible to drive engagement. I don't think he's actually an idiot, he's just really careful about curating a public persona that seems like an idiot.
It's obviously an effective strategy, a lot of people have done the same. Westen Champlin and early Cleetus are good examples, obviously they're less destructive than WD but the character they play on camera is a lot dumber than their actual selves.
Contrasted to the Diesel bros trying to seem a lot smarter than they actually are.
DoctFaustus@reddit
Paris Hilton used to get sent to troubled hotels to turn them around, and was effective and good at the job. Playing dumb for the public can be very lucrative.
frosty95@reddit
WD literally posted a video with none of the acting recently where you see he is actually fairly smart at a minimum. He has posted a few of these over the years. Not to mention how poorly they hide the giggles and whatnot when cutting the videos together. Yet some people believe its real.
funkopolis@reddit
Agreed
Terrh@reddit
I don't think he's dumb at all.
He's actually really, really good at figuring out what destructive thing will make him a ton of money.
I've got ADHD and if I had money and a youtube channel... I'd be doing a whole lot of similar stuff.
ZaneMasterX@reddit
WD is FAR from dumb. He is actually incredibly smart with how he runs his persona which captures all the rage bait on the internet. Guess what makes money? Tons of views. Guess what else makes a ton of money? Engagement. The more comments and rage that he funnels to his videos the higher they get ranked on the algorithms.
He is raking in the cash because he has positioned himself in a way that people who love him AND hate him watch his videos.
He is a marketing and video genius. If he was as dumb as some people think he is he wouldnt be nearly as successful as he currently is and will continue to be. The guy caught lightening in a bottle and has built on that very successfully.
AwesomeBantha@reddit
You could make that argument up until the day trading video. People don’t watch or engage with that type of content, and he’s branded a sellout. A marketing and video genius wouldn’t have pulled that stunt.
somedude456@reddit
Every big YTer makes a mistake or two.
Stradman did a car giveaway with some super shady company, and I think he yanked the video within a week.
Emilia Hardford joined someone selling "shares" of high end exotics. If everyone gives this guy $100, he can guy a F40, and then resell it in 3 years and give you some of the profit... or some BS. She got called out but oddly left the video up.
Rob Ferretti did some BS, install this app, it tracks you as you drive and gives you points, and then you can trade in the points for real cash. No one fell for that BS, everyone trashed him in the comments, and comments of the next few videos and then it was forgotten. He still got that check for plugging them, so that's what matters to him.
txmail@reddit
Rob Ferretti has been doing scammy shit way before that app lol. He will hawk anything and it is hilarious. Hair growth miracles, fake "health" drinks and not to mention his "custom luxury line" of luggage which is just some modified Temu shit with different colorways.
AwesomeBantha@reddit
Not hard to argue that what WD was worse than any of those.
And he made the situation worse with the Coffeezilla debacle, he defended the day trader bro (badly) when he didn’t even have to. A smart person would have either a) shut the hell up, or b) released some generic ass “I’m just speaking of my own experience” type statement to limit his involvement.
My point is, he’s not that smart. Will he see a decline in viewership? I don’t know, probably not.
Warhawk2052@reddit
I mean he runs, ran? a rental car company it comes as expected
somedude456@reddit
No. Are you trying to imply his company is somehow shady or poorly ran? He's been doing it like 15+ years and seems fairly successful at it. I'm not sure what you're trying to grasp at.
shadowofashadow@reddit
No one who watches WD is cancelling their subscription over that debacle. They are either braindead teens or people like me who sub out of the sheer curiosity of what he'll do next. I only watch like 10% of his videos anyways so I don't care if he was involved in some stupid scam, I'm just curious what dumb thing will be on his channel next.
txmail@reddit
Bruh, he is hanging out with Andrew Tate and I think that was before the scam day trading video.
MRDR1NL@reddit
He still probably made a lot of money from that. And rage bait engagement
Hugh_Louis_Dewey@reddit
Not relevant but i saw you have a 99lx. I just purchased one too and love the damn thing. Im sure you know but i just found out that these LX470s could come optioned with HUD night vision. I saw locally one sell with that option for like 4k. I almost had 2 Lx470s.
AwesomeBantha@reddit
I believe night vision was only available starting in 04 or 05. You can tell by the two extra “fog lights” on the front bumper.
ShadyDrunks@reddit
If you watched a whistling diesel video and thought he was dumb, you can’t pick up jokes lmao
When_hop@reddit
I used to think he was funny but then I realized none of his schtick is actually ironic, he's just unironically a cunt
MrReadilyUnready@reddit
He used to be a simple guy who made fun videos. But then he got rich and got very, very, very cocky.
When_hop@reddit
At first the cockiness was funny because it seemed ironic, but now everyone I know who watched him realizes what he is.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the algorithm feedback loop plays right into this personality and will only amplify it as apparently that's what gets views.

BWFTW@reddit
For me it was them and their fans glorifiying the killdozer guy. No the guy was not a people's hero fighting the man. He was a severely mentally ill mass murderer. It's so disgusting. It would be like a different youtuber making a tribute project to glorify ted bundy or Jeffery dahmer. It's sick. Seeing his fans worship and glorify the killdozer made me mad in a way I can't explain. It's the mix or misinformation and desensitization to violence that lets people think that something like that can be even mildly okay.
_That_One_Guy_@reddit
How can you be a mass murderer when the only person you killed is yourself?
Depending on your viewpoint of the story, attempted mass murderer could be a valid label. I disagree, but I understand people who interpret it that way.
Funny that you mention misinformation though...

That's actually so fair, my bad aha.
tronaldrumptochina@reddit
I happened to see him speak at an entrepreneur/tech conference once, before I had ever seen any of his videos (still not sure why he ended up there, but I digress). Guy came across as almost completely unprepared - he’s not bad at speaking, but he repeated the same two talking points for a half an hour, rambling on and on without any visuals. Other speakers had great prepared slide decks, speeches, or other interesting aspects of their time slots.

For me it's the attitude of good deeds only count if they're filmed. They may have done jobs off camera but their content gives the vibe that everything is filmed and edited no matter the content.
somedude456@reddit
I'm not for or against Heavy D, but let's be factual. Take half or a full day off, driving 1-3 hours with a semi, truck, and 2 other pieces of equipment, and then rescuing some stuck jeep on a cliff side.... he's out 2K+ in money, wear and tear, and time. He's a business owner. Time is money. It makes no sense to do said resque for free unless he films it, makes a video and it pulls 2K in ad revenue. That's how YT works.
I like to travel. If I could vlog a trip to Spain and make 1K via 4 videos I shot in 3 days, hell yeah I would, but I don't have any followers so that's not happening.

My toddler loves watching Matt's Off-road recovery, and sometimes this guy's videos would get suggested. Seems like a nice guy, but after a couple videos you can pick up on his vibe enough to not be shocked that he owes a lot of money to people and probably feels like he's too cool/important to face consequences for anything.
SeaManaenamah@reddit
If you're familiar with Rory Irish and Trail Mater, he's made several comments about the an unnamed famous Utah influencer who has no regard for the environment and trail conditions during his recoveries. He was picking up a bunch of trash and vehicle parts they left behind. 99% sure this is who he was referring to.
gta3uzi@reddit
As far as S tier off road recovery influencers Rory Irish and Casey LaDelle easily earn that ranking in my book. If I were in need of recovery and had to pay out of pocket to get it done I'd absolutely call one of them.
Matt's Off Road Recovery gets and A grade. He and his crew are obviously capable.
I wouldn't bother with Heavy D. I'd rather just let the local meth heads cut it apart for scrap and haul it out chunk by chunk.

I like to skip to the end of of Dave’s videos to see what the recovery hellscape looks like after he breaks two military-grade eight-wheeled trucks, wedges one industrial-sized crane in the mud, says “guys, this is the scariest recovery I’ve ever attempted” 47 times, and nearly kills the cameraman after snapping half inch steel cable, all while trying to rescue a ten square foot cube of crushed metal that’s been quietly but happily living in the middle of buttfuck nowhere for two decades

DeathCabForYeezus@reddit
In one of his videos he's at his buddy's place who built his house on a cliff made of sand and to exactly nobody's surprise the ground is falling away.
Did they get a geotech engineer out to figure out how to stabilize it? Hell no, they just wholesale dumping sand over the edge and call it a day
His buddy also clearly never hired an engineer to deal with the build in the first place because the "retaining" walls were falling apart and the slab had next to no rebar. These dumbasses didn't realize that the "wall" part of a retaining wall holds back very little. It's all the design BEHIND the wall that does the work.
Their egos are so big that they just fundamentally didn't think that they might not know what they're doing.
arcalus@reddit
Weird, there isn’t any recovery that was made worse by them using super cheap military equipment they got at auction and then fixed up.

The ruling for the fine wasn't issued 3 months ago. It's not like he forgot about the fine. He could have just sold two semis and paid it without worry. mrmr2120@reddit
He’s owes like $11+ mil in lawsuits still, he still has to pay Diesel that was $11.8 mil I believe
InsertBluescreenHere@reddit
Yea i agree. I think he would throw a low bid at any and all us surplus crap and prolly won a ton of junk for pennies on the dollar. But the reason noone wanted to bid is cuz noone wanted it or needed it.
groundzer0@reddit
Unless you find the right buyer for a lot of the gear, it's scrap value.
Totally agree it's such specialised gear and you'd need to hoard it and lifting gear and stuff "times out" for inspection etc.
So a lot of shit times out to junk while stored depending on what it is.
InsertBluescreenHere@reddit
Yup even then all the cloth rope canvas and rubber stuff has zero scrap value. Can't imagine trying to dispose of some of those worn out tires he has...
EnterBruges@reddit
It's called a business strategy. No doubt all his remaining wealth is tucked away in trusts. They will seize all the assets they can and he will start a new company having paid much less than the original fine. This was pretty obvious when he was practically giving things away at his garage sale.

m0viestar@reddit
EPA didn't just go after coal rollers. Smaller tubing shops had to shut as a result as well. Harvey at Boost Creep here in CO got a visit from the EPA and won't tune Subies if they're registered and titled anymore.
I know Cobb got into some shit too back then. So yeah it wasn't just bubba rolling coal.
FSCK_Fascists@reddit
they went after anyone that would bypass emissions.
Phioltes@reddit
As they should have. If you drive your car on public roads and modify emission systems or install parts that don't meet standards you are comitting a felony.
FSCK_Fascists@reddit
I do not disagree
m0viestar@reddit
Correct but the misconception the person I replied to is that they only went after coal rollers, which is straight bullshit.
cakes42@reddit
It didn't just affect the diesel guys. That whole thing pretty much killed the entire aftermarket across the industry. It was a big topic at SEMA for a few years.
boostedb1mmer@reddit
Rolling coal is stupid as hell. However, the EPA should never be given the power to regulate what a customer can do with their car. OEM manufacturer sure, but as a customer you should be able to call up any exhaust shop in the country and have them cut off your cats all day long. You should also be able to sell any product designed to delete emissions controls if you wish to.
WizWitCheezusDo@reddit
Man this is a really dumb argument. Do you also believe there should be no laws restricting the disposal of hazardous waste? Should I be allowed to dump my used oil in a stream?
boostedb1mmer@reddit
On a "equivalent level of pollution scale" you already are dumping waste into water every time you use detergents, cleaners and solvents on about the same level as someone gutting their cats in a hot rod.
WizWitCheezusDo@reddit
Yes bro thank god we have city-wide air pollution treatment facilities the same way we have wastewater plants! I forgot how easy it is to filter CO and NOx out of the air
boostedb1mmer@reddit
Waste water plants have a hard time with the phosphors in detergents, many times are entirely ineffective at clearing them out. Just to be on the safe side, you better not wash your clothes. Don't want any pollutants getting through.
FledglingNonCon@reddit
On in your front yard. Seriously the people who think they should be able to do whatever they want regardless of the consequences on other people are often the first to complain when something someone else does negatively affects them.

Frothar@reddit
where do you draw the line in releasing toxic emissions? should we allow people to put TEL back in the fuel for more power? What about mustard gas for a cool yellow smoke effect
boostedb1mmer@reddit
100% yes as far as leaded gas. Hell, you can still buy leaded race gas(CAM2) from a pump where I live. It just cant be pumped directly into the vehicle, it has to go in a fuel can first.
ionstorm66@reddit
You can legally run leaded fuel though. You just can't sell it at a gas station.

This fine is basically extortion and I don’t blame him for not paying it. He’s already paid the EPA fine in a separate case. This one he’s been arrested for is from a suit a Physicians group filled in which about 80-90% goes to lawyer fees. Basically, they saw a guy with money and went after him. I wish this group understood the importance of sticking up for our rights and considered how overreach eventually gets to you. If you consider yourself a car enthusiast, consider the precedent cases like this set for anyone to be sued for any modification before typing dumb shit like most of this thread has.

Not sure how much a black hawk cost ? But buying one shows he dident intend on paying his fine
silianrail@reddit
Hopefully one of The Boys can bail him out.
ScrotumNipples@reddit
I did some digging and here are the facts.
He already paid a $761,000 fine to the EPA for selling illegal diesel tuning equipment. After that, a Utah nonprofit called UPHE filed a separate lawsuit under the Clean Air Act. They are legally allowed to do this as a "citizen suit." They won, and a judge ordered Sparks to pay $848,000, mostly to cover UPHE’s attorney fees. When Sparks didn’t pay or provide full financial disclosures, the court found him in civil contempt and ordered him to jail until he cooperates. UPHE is now trying to collect the money by going after his assets, including his home and cabin.
None of the money from UPHE’s lawsuit goes toward cleaning the air or fixing environmental damage. It all goes to UPHE and their lawyers. This is legal under the Clean Air Act, but to a lot of people it looks like a cash grab. But here's the thing... The law doesn't care if all the money goes to lawyers pockets and none of it goes towards saving the environment.

Shmokesshweed@reddit
Is Taylor Swift tampering with emissions equipment on her jet?
spongebob_meth@reddit
To be fair, jets pretty much don't use any emissions equipment. There's no feasible way to treat that much exhaust and it wouldn't be reliable enough to be safe.
Adjective_Noun1312@reddit
They also generally burn incredibly clean. You can tear down a turbine engine with thousands of hours and there won't be enough soot on the turbines, stators, and exhaust ducting to dirty more than a couple rags, while a coal roller will put out more than that with one blip of the accelerator pedal.
spongebob_meth@reddit
Well, one is programmed to run clean and the other is not

Fallacy of relative privation.
Also, Taylor Swift didn't modify her jet to spew a bunch of extra soot for no reason other than to blow it in people's faces so

The same environmental lawsuit fees that they’re about to pull back on? The epa and mpg and emissions is about to clash. EPA shutting down all tuners and shops that had to HELP customers with their TRUCKS to keep their business or land up and running during a time even the EPA didn’t care how manufactures conformed to meet standards and gamble reliability. So if they pull back this emission standard BS then everyone fined, arrested, accused, and can prove a financial loss should be owed their damages PLUS the time lost. 2007 when DEF started was a nightmare. Until about 2014. Ever since then it’s been more complicated and more issues than any 2000 era diesel. They haven’t been able to service most of that system until recently anyways and even now; if you don’t drive it, it will not run right ever. DEF issues. Sensors. Wires. High pressure fuel. All of which requires additives because diesel in the US doesn’t come close to 50 cetane. Most diesel owners don’t even know the difference because they just need the truck for work and truck purposes. Not to become truck mechanics like most of us have to become to keep these useless trucks on the road working. Either buy a new truck for 90-100k Or an old truck and have a budget of 10-15k for reconditioning.
The old truck still worth more and works for longer than this new junk.
thriftstorehacker@reddit
I like Dave, but his reinvention of Junkyard Wars was so full of macho douche energy that it made it unwatchable.
