I adore Q so very much.

I remember whenever I watched as a kid I would shout Q! In glee whenever he showed up because I know this episode was going to be great.

When I was a teen, I hated characters like Q and Lwaxana. Now, at nearly 50 years old and rewatching the show for the first time completely through, I adore both of them. Funny how that happens.

I'm going to be 53 in just over 2 weeks and I still don't like Lwaxana (other than in Half a Life) and I didn't like Q in Encounter At Farpoint, but he grew on me rapidly.

Maybe being a menopausal woman makes the diff. ;)

I love this episode
Kiki1701@reddit
I even said his comment to Worf, "eat any good books lately?" right along with him; how dorky is that? Lol

One of us. ONE OF US. ONE OF US!!! :)

I love Q! I wish he was more of a regular.

I have a newborn who is currently in the "put everything in their mouth" phase, including books. Suffice to say, I think about this line a lot.

Q brought the snark, and he was devastating. We almost never got to see our upstanding heroes get owned like that. I loved Q episodes.
Used-Gas-6525@reddit
Worf gives as good as he gets.
Q: "What can I convince you that I'm not immortal?"
Worf: "Die."
Not an exact quote, but you get the point.
steveketchen@reddit
We watched it no worries

Why did they decide to make Worf such a dumbass in the early seasons?
Trying to shoot the viewscreen. Jumping over the railing to try to shoot Q's apparition. Trying to intimidate an omnipotent being by growling. Like, wtf Worf?
Isgrimnur@reddit
He starts out as a lieutenant. Go ask any of the military subreddits how useful their lieutenants are.
Traditional-Buy-2205@reddit
Yes, but this isn't any old military. It's Starfleet, which supposedly accepts only the best candidates.
And it's the flagship.
And he's on the bridge of said flagship.
Isgrimnur@reddit
So was Ensign Crusher, a nepotism hire.

Especially considering they established starfleet as “the best of the best” pretty early on in the show. I think someone did the math and the chances of getting into starfleet academy are like less than 0.01% The people who make it aren’t like the valedictorian of their high school, they’re the people who win the national science competition or get gold in the olympics.
However I really like the later trend in the Trekverse of “the security officer is always right and no one ever listens to them.”
gravitasofmavity@reddit
I try not to think too carefully about those early season missed steps. The writers really were all over the place.
Ren_worthy@reddit
Worf wins the episode.
gravitasofmavity@reddit
Excellent choice. Me personally, I try use obtuse piece of flotsam at least once a week.
Victory_Highway@reddit
What must I do to convince you people? Die. Oh, very clever Worf. Eat any good books lately?
Classic scene.
Scrat-Slartibartfast@reddit
you can say what you want, but in the end Worf was right and Q died bevor him.
