My 4.92x34mm Caseless Round

It is an original and extremely rare 4.92mm caseless round designed for the HK ACR series of rifles by Heckler and Koch. This is one of the later iterations where the propellant is a HITP nitrocellulose block (hence why it’s an orange brick shape) complete with a disintegrating primer, a 4.92mm slug, and a plastic cap. I’ve had this round in my possession for about three years now and I am planning on donating it to the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, Georgia (they do have a G11 ACR prototype in their possession)
Notice how I said HK ACR instead of “G11”, that is because they fired different ammunition from each other. The G11 fires a 4.73×33mm caseless round, but HK decided to scale up the cartridge for specifically the ACR program series of G11s, hence, leading to the 4.92x34mm caseless round

What would be the point of this type of ammo anyway?

Significantly lighter that 5.56 NATO, is storage shape, how’s the gun which is fired from to achieve extremely high cyclic rates due to the elimination of the ejection process

I wonder how much of a difference that 0.6mm^3 (if my math is right) made. That seems almost negligible to me, but what do I know? I'm not even confident in my own geometry abilities.

If I remember correctly (and it’s entirely possible that I’m talking rubbish), I read in a magazine article about the ACR trials that the US measured the HK ACR’s rifling from groove to groove not land to land. Hence 4.92mm
Tx556@reddit
So you're saying it's the same size round as the g11?
MojoCrow@reddit
I think it was inferred in the article I read that the US thought 4.73mm was a bit ‘small’ so measuring it by the grooves makes the calibre bigger. I can imagine someone seeing 4.92mm, mentally rounding it up to 5mm and 5mm isn’t much smaller than 5.56mm. Of course, that’s a bit of a leap of imagination but it’s a similar concept to pricing (9.95 is cheaper than 10.00).
To settle the 4.73mm v 4.92mm question, I wonder if it’s possible to measure the bullet in that HK ACR round? If it turns out I’m wrong then whoever wrote the article I read was talking out of their derrière.

How does the primer work on these? Is it metal or similar in design to normal primers?
Damn, now I gotta look up the g11 firing mechanism and see how the firing pin works I guess.

Is the HK ACR a specific weapon made by Heckler & Koch for the Hong Kong military/law enforcement, hence the description “HK ACR” then saying they are/were a “series of rifles by Heckler & Koch”?
just_a_plague_doc@reddit (OP)
The ACR it’s just a US spec modified G11. where did you get Hong Kong military from?
SamanthaSissyWife@reddit
It was sarcasm because of your sentence ‘designed for the HK ACR series of rifles by Heckler & Koch’ was written as if you felt the need to explain to the others here what HK stood for. It would be like saying the ‘S&W Model 10 made by Smith & Wesson’. Like I said, a bit of levity in a dull day
just_a_plague_doc@reddit (OP)
So explain where you got Hong Kong police from, it just makes you look retarded

RandomKnifeBro@reddit
French were ahead of the game, they had caseless ammo in the 1860's.
Khitrir@reddit
Huh? Did you miss out or substitute a word? To my understanding HITP (which was based on denatured octogen, a nitroamine explosive) replaced the nitrocellulose propellant block entirely.

Best I can do is $5. I’m taking all the risk here.

Excuse me how do you own real g11 ammunition r u successor of h&k??? This thing is fucking rare i do say it as rare as pink diamond
just_a_plague_doc@reddit (OP)
I know people (they’re also not THAT rare, though extremely)
OkRush9563@reddit
You have a caseless round from the G11?
I'm so jealous! Lucky!
TheWildLifeFilms@reddit
They pop up gunbroker fairly regularly, keep alerts on to snag one , not cheap though
just_a_plague_doc@reddit (OP)
DO NOT, that guy is a scammer and I know exactly who you’re talking about
TheWildLifeFilms@reddit
There’s been dozens of sellers over the years, you gotta be specific who your claiming to be a scammer
just_a_plague_doc@reddit (OP)
I don’t recall the name, but he sells them for specifically $150 and also sells a G11 plaque on his account
TimberAndStrings@reddit
How much
just_a_plague_doc@reddit (OP)
DONT
TheWildLifeFilms@reddit
Usually $100-200 when I was buying them

I went to that museum in 2014 when I graduated basic at Benning. Couldn’t think of a better place for you to donate that too
boredvamper@reddit
From what I understand museums render ammo and other munitions inert prior to placing them on public display. Usually done by dumping powder ,cordite and other explosives all together or replacing it with lookalike on crosscut specimens. They put light oil on the igniter mixture in the primers rendering them inactive.
I think they would rather make a reproduction of your piece instead of displaying it as is since all you can see is nitrocellulose...
just_a_plague_doc@reddit (OP)
I’ve talked with the museum and they say they will keep it live since there’s really no way to make it inert
Plump_Apparatus@reddit
That's awesome. Not a lot of people would appreciate it, but I'm glad a few people do.
