Very old, very small loan years ago

Hi, I lived in Colorado in the early 2000s. During that time I made the mistake of getting a Sally Mae loan for literally one semester at a community college. The amount was something like $2000-2500, honestly don't remember the exact figure.

I ended up moving to Europe shortly after the loan and have been here for 20 years now. I did try shortly after moving to speak with someone via the student loan website, but as I was overseas, it was phone only and I wasn't going to spend a bunch of money to wait on hold. I was also shocked that the interest on such a small loan had increased the amount owed to almost 10k, I don't know how that's legal.

Once, when I was back in the states visiting family I had a letter from them saying that my wages could be garnished, but that was over 10 years ago, maybe close to 15.

Do I have anything to worry about?
