Since there wasn't an incident nobody was really at fault. The driver was the asshole in this video since they cut you off intentionally. I guess the driver was a bit frustrated at being in a big vehicle but still being stuck behind somebody moving slowly on a bike, which I understand a tiny bit since you don't seem to be trying to move faster.
It will never, ever be worth it to be involved in a serious accident even if it is 100% the "other guy"'s fault. Money won in court. perhaps months or years down the road, will never make you whole again, will never be enough to compensate you for time and health lost, and will probably be a lot less than you think.
As a corollary to this, I continue to see people claim that cars need to be the ones responsible since they are the ones capable of doing the lion's share of the physical damage. And while the second part is true, the first part is unrealistic. Because we, as cyclists or pedestrians, are the ones in a position to be the most harmed, we need to be all that much more careful.
I was doing 30mph on friday(downhill bike goes fast downhill) when some woman decided to pull out in front of me. Locked my brakes and swung the bike as much as I could. I slammed into her driver door at a reduced but still not slow speed. Caved her door in real good, bent a pedal but suffered only minor scrapes and a bruise on the shoulder that tried to go through her door. If you're going to go fast, my advice is to wear appropriate gear.
Its not cars, its people that have 2 eyes that evolved to gauge range and speed but for some reason, their hunter eye instinct does not work. In past millennia these weak links would have been culled by not being able to catch anything to eat and would starve to death. These days, they just drive like shit.
Yep, I was almost cut off today in a roundabout, I had taken the lane to discourage attempts at passing IN the roundabout(one person has tried, 3 people have honked because 20 seconds is too long of a delay to what would take them 10). On my way around, a car starts pulling out in front of me, I break, they stop, I roll past staring them down a bit and see they even had a phone in their hand. Some people. . .
Solve it how? People drive like whackjobs here too weaving in and out only to end up at the same red light as everybody else. It annoys me more than it should.
People can submit their videos for dangerous driving to traffic court and it often results in fines and penalties. There is also a nation information campaign on new traffic rules. Here the rules are often vague, and put the cyclists life at risk. There is no public appetite here to reform the mess and the police are apathetic.
Ugh, I hate it when drivers do this. It would take them all of 3 seconds to simply let me continue through/turn the corner, and then turn after I’m gone. But no, Speedy Gonzales here thinks that he can save precious seconds by cutting me off.
Not yours at all, but 1.) fix your damn brake levers, you are putting yourself in danger riding with them at that angle. And 2.) ebikes are for pedaling. Pedal it.
Theirs. But this happens all the time. Drivers inability to read the speed you're going at. If there is a bike lane, they're supposed to merge with it from a good distance away before making the turn.
This is why it's smart to go a slow steady, safe speed as you're passing the cross sections (just like you've done). Gives u time to react.
no fault no foul. But with that said, truck driver is an asshole. Forces their way around you, and to what, maybe save 1 second on that turn. Hell, with the way they ended up turning, it probably would've been faster to let you thru. And lets face it, when people force this to try and get in front of someone, esp any kind of bike or scooter type, they aren't typically saving any time at all. The force pass and all they do is speed until they catch up to a car in front of them. And even if they saved time on the turn or pass, that saved time is completely gone. So risking an unsafe pass to get around a bike/ebike is just fucking stupid and says how bad of a driver they are.
Meanwhile here in the uk I sent a video of a driver doing this exact thing to the police and they slapped him with 3 points on his license and a £300 fine😅
Mildly shitty of the truck to cut you off but imo since they stopped and probably realized they timed it wrong and then only went after making sure you weren't too close, it's not even on the level of something that's worth getting annoyed at considering the fact that cars will often turn right into you at 30mph
It is 100% trucks fault. Ileagle in most places
Of sharing a lane, there should be 3 ft rule. Truck was within 3 ft. Truck sped up to cut off cyclist and cut him off to the corner.
Truck should have had patience and let cyclist go and taken the turn calmly and safely.
I mean, nothing really happened. Could the truck have been a bit more polite with the turn? Sure, bit no contact was made, and this is just a nothing burger, dude.
don't hug the edge of the lane unless the lane is huge (like 14' wide or more) -- instead, ride in the middle of the lane.
Anything else is going to be seen as inviting them to share the lane with you, which is not what you want.
Yes, they cut this too close, but with no crash, there's no "at fault".
That's not a shoulder, if I were on that road I'd be closer to the middle of the lane, but of course eyes and ears open at all times because cars have no idea how to safely pass

It doesn’t matter who’s at fault, you have to do everything to make sure they don’t kill you.

Yes, crashing onto the vehicle that cut you off is SO the right answer.
