Predicted deaths from loss of health insurance subsidies caused by Government Shut Down
In October 2025, an analysis was published in Bloomberg warning of thousands of additional deaths due to a potential government shutdown over health care.
A June 2025 analysis cited in the article estimated that the expiration of enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits could cause 5 million people to lose insurance, leading to an additional 8,811 deaths.
The expiration of these subsidies would also cost health care providers an estimated $32.1 billion in lost revenue.
What is wrong with you people? This makes you SMILE? Seriously?
But look, it has purely aesthetic resemblance to something that's popular here while not actually achieving anything anyone values inherently and just playing at instrumental values! Clearly it's a good thing!
Sarcasm aside, libertarians rarely like talking about actual material specifics, so it's not exactly a surprise they don't consider consequences in favour of a vague ideological half-appeal.
I think you have absolutely nailed the mentality of these "Libertarians" I am guessing most are kids. But to the extent that they can vote they will vote for leaders how ruin people's lives. They are selfish and ignorant at the same time.
No, we have answers, they’re just the adult answers that nobody wants to hear. Things like “abolish social security and hold people responsible for their own piss-poor planning” but sadly the puerile idiots are in the majority so that sort of policy is 100% infeasible and unelectable.
I think a lot of people probably don't understand libertarianism in the first place.
I don't think libertarianism seeks to "solve the world's problem", but rather points out the CVS receipt levels of dangers from excessive spending, oversized and overpowered centralized governments and the nature of taxation.
Aaaand, you think Democrats and Republicans have better ideas on how to solve the world's problems? At least with Libertarianism you get to keep your rights and more of your paycheck. What the fuck are you so upset about?
elon musk, under your own idealistic system of government, came into power and utterly failed to accomplish anything except the degradation of our country
disabled people exist, mentally unwell people exist, people get sick with any number of illnesses or afflictions, people are born into poverty. we have the capability to help everyone have basic needs like food, water, healthcare and shelter. we just choose to withhold it from people so that our masters can live like kings. you are just part of the old world unable or unwilling to understand what's happening
We are continually told that every country must have an activist government. No economy nor society can be allowed to just bumble along by itself, the firm smack of political control is necessary for the world to continue to turn on its axis. This is not really what the empirical evidence tells us of course. Spain has not really had a government for the past 10 months and yet it is expected to be one of the fastest-growing eurozone economies this year. And as a result the unemployment rate has just fallen to 18.9%. So much for the necessity of activist management of the economy then:
"This guy kept his dog in a cage and barely fed it for weeks. Now that guy's passed out drunk on his couch, his dog escaped while it wasn't looking, and it can go eat garbage and drink ditch water on its own, it's not (as) malnourished anymore! Clearly this means all dog owners ever are bad and we should just kill them and let their dogs out on the street, that's what's best for all dogs!"
Inductive reasoning based on two total countries that went from bad to slightly less bad being called "empirical evidence" is also... I was gonna say funny, but tbh it's just disappointing every time I see people misunderstanding what the scientific method is, or logic, or facts, or rationality, or pragmatism, and instead just using them as the "hehe this signals i smort!" words.
And I already know that before seeing this sentence, you were just gonna avoid actually engaging with my point and instead just address the phrasing of my analogy to make some armchair psychoanalytical vaguery.
The BBB was a budget reconciliation bill, which were originally designed to allow Congress to cut back when federal spending exceeds the budget plan. So it focused on FY2025.
Conservatives are fine with it too. We're hoping that Trump gets to declare who is essential vs not and cut all of the nonessential departments completely.
IMO, the military and judicial system is the only thing worth keeping at the federal level.
Funny how Lib is the start of both sides of the same coin. Personally I’m an independent and won’t smaller government but know that with no government we’d be controlled by China or Russia.
All these years, and countless examples of lies, and yet you're still buying that US government "foreign boogeyman" propaganda? Aahahahahaha!!!! Wow... I feel so sorry for you. Forgive my rudeness, but I don't think this is the right subreddit for you.
Unfortunately we all know how this political theater between the two cults ends. More government and fewer liberties. But we can enjoy it while it’s “shut” I guess and hope it’s never plugged back in.
Stop calling them liberals. It's an insanely evil appropriation of a term (classical liberals) the few people still have something to do with have nothing to do with them.
Call them democrats, keynesians or mostly peaceful communists. But please for the love of God stop taking part of this mass exercise of torture of actual liberalism.
As much as I applaud no government, I can see where this leads and it is more detrimental to our freedoms as human beings than keeping the trust fund alive...
I agree. Unfortunately entitlements are a large majority of our spending and aren’t related to this shutdown fight. As usual, we are fighting over the least important shit and ignoring the sword of Damocles.
The problem is the same as it has always been. The citizens discover they can vote for candidates that will make legislation to give citizens free money. The free money then flows until there is government collapse. That we have two parties each paying a different group of citizens helps each side to have a self righteous claim. The fact there is a group trying to avoid the collapse and return the government to ideals upon which it was founded but never really realized is no reason to denigrate them.

the libertarians in power are currently stripping our constitutional rights away
colinkelley@reddit
Who are the Libertarians in power you're referring to?
Killersands@reddit
elon musk who embarrassed you all on the world stage for failing to hold onto political power gifted to him
colinkelley@reddit
oh, trolling. gotcha
Killersands@reddit
you call it trolling, i call it embarrassing. musk alone probably set the libertarians back fifty fucking years

Thomas Massie doesn't count even if he is Libertarian in practice.

I certainly don't...
You're just making shit up to fit your narrative, and have nothing of use or value to contribute to this discussion. Get lost, the adults are talking

elon claims the title himself, as did all of you before he shit the bed. the adults are the ones who do work while you all talk and do nothing
