Andreas Rupprecht: "So far clearest image of a KJ-3000 prototype - here number #7821 - in flight."
Smellynerfherder@reddit
Why's it Goosebumps slime green?
jar1967@reddit
The elevators are going to create one hell of a blind spot. They need to redesign the tail
Clangokkuner@reddit
amazing, so like most of the other AEW&C planes in existence?
Delicious_Lab_8304@reddit
Explain, please.
OffensiveComplement@reddit
The radar can't see through the planes tail. Hence, a blind spot.
Delicious_Lab_8304@reddit
Please tell me you understand the concept of an electronically steered beam, in a two-sided, [rotating] rotodome, itself affixed to an aircraft that you know, flies around.
And lastly, the radome in the “stinger” at the end of the aft fuselage. You can even play a fun game trying to spot all the radars, and the EW, ESM, ECM, ECCM, satcom and CEC antennae on this beast.
I guarantee you, the engineers who built this do.
agha0013@reddit
much more composite use, probably less an impact than the E-3's wings and stabilizers.
Linkz98@reddit
That's got a lot of power to have to put a full intake under the tail like that. We won't ever get specs or a picture of the inside until it doesn't matter.
AsanineTrip@reddit
This is Beriev A-50 Mainstay style.
Pzb39@reddit
The inlet on the tail is probably for ECS or APU and was probably on the baseline aircraft without the dish.
Pyrhan@reddit
I think their point is that it's got to be a large APU for it to have a full intake like that, which probably implies that radar array uses a lot of power.
longsite2@reddit
You are correct, radar uses a shit ton of power.
BlackFoxTom@reddit
It looks like the intake and imedentely there is exhaust. They just didn't put it in the tailest part of the tail as it usually is in like Boeing or Airbus.
Possibly cause it does have a tail radar, flares or whatever other equipment or at least space for it.
yekis@reddit
„ So far clearest image“ is a nice name for an AWACS plane
Foreign_Athlete_7693@reddit
To be followed shortly by "you ain't hiding shit from us"
longsite2@reddit
Since this is based on a cargo aircraft, does it still have the big door at the back? And how have they changed the inside from a big open space to, I'm guessing, rows of computers and work stations?
TheEpicChickenYT@reddit
New engines. Maybe ws-20?
RamTank@reddit
New production Y-20s have had WS-20s for a while now, so yes.
longsite2@reddit
Air hit big dish, move air out of way, not as much air hit t-tail, less pitch control.
Monke_with_a_Stick@reddit
New high bypass engines too
