Had an amazing encounter in the San Juan Islands on my Birthday 10/03 with two friendly humpbacks

This is Spock and her partner/friend is unnamed. The other one is only 3 years old, and Spock was first documented only 4 years ago. She gave us quite the show yesterday! They both swam around our boat for more than half an hour, swirling and twirling and splashing us with their fins. She even came up a few times to show us her eye. We also had a double spyhop from these two! It was one of the most magical experiences of my life.

That is incredible. Did it have barnacles on its back? I wonder how they get rid of them.

Incredible! Where about in the San Juan islands was this? Did a tour out of Friday harbor this summer and didn’t see any.
Hot_Penalty_671@reddit
Yeah, the whales like to travel in the summer. The salmon are here by the islands again. Much more activity now.
coyotemidnight@reddit
Humpbacks don't generally feed on salmon; they eat smaller fish, like herring, capelin, etc. and krill.
linksslut@reddit (OP)
Omg who did you go with? This was out of Friday Harbor, into the Strait of Georgia
Voltron94@reddit
Anyone else want to jump in with them? Go 5-10’down and see if they come to u.
