So Navient has been really busy when it comes to me. A few days ago they threatened me with a Final Demand letter that didn't look or sound like a final demand letter.
Today I received a letter in the mail from Allied Interstate Collections stating that three of my loans had been turned over to them. They moved fast. The loans now total $148,000 according to them.
I know that I have more than three loans with them. So I don't know how much they are saying the rest are for. Also this is the first time since I have been paying on the loans they have sent me something listing the loans, loan numbers, and amounts.
Has anyone gotten this far before? And what could they be doing with the other loans?
I applied for credit a few days ago and was denied because of a recent derogatory item on my report. I assume this is that item.
Here are the two emails they sent me today.
Good Morning,

But it looks like they have already trashed my credit and turned me over to a collection agency.

Funny, I got a letter from the same "collector" Allied Interstate this week on old Navient debt. Haven't paid or acknowledged they exist in nearly 2 years and all the loans are at least 12+ yrs old.
They state they were "contracted by Navient" to settle this debt.
They also stated their "client Navient" is willing to settle for X amount which is roughly 39% of the total debt.
Curiously they included that I have 30 days to ask to validate, verify the debt or judgement (there is no judgement), dispute, or request proof of the "correct" creditors. What's funny is they list JP Morgan and Chase Bank as the Original Creditor and Navient as the Current Creditor- the loans were originally Sallie Mae (ie Navient).
I heard Navient "bought" a lot of debt collectors to "contract" with so it's possible in both our cases it's still Navient. I believe in your case and mine this is still Navient.
I'm on fence about asking them to verify and send the original loan documents and proof they own it....but at same time it feels like a ruse to get me to acknowledge it. They "claim" if I don't ask about verifying it in 30 days then they will "assume it's valid." They also stated in the letter "please submit payment within 40 days or if you need more time to work out a payment plan please let us know."
Last year I got a few letters like this direct from Navient, I never bothered to ask for verification.
I read something a while back online that suggested if you stay low and don't make noise to them, you're just another number in an excel spreadsheet with thousands of other collections debt files and they'll chase pennies (or chase those willing to keep paying) rather than risk getting nothing. I guess it's case by case but a few years ago I reported them to the State AG and the CFPB who has an ongoing lawsuit against them and haven't spoken to them since.

Dang Vandalay! That is my case exactly! They sent me the exact letter! I have no intention of contacting them. I will ride it out to the end. There is COVID, a bad economy, etc... I need to keep all money that I earn.

They also call like 3-4 times a day lol.
You have to wonder what they paid for the debt or get paid to "represent their client Navient" if they're already willing to accept so much less than the balance. I imagine time and waiting means even less $$$ they'll accept. And to be honest, I tried to work with Navient in the past and they just lie and lie and mislead.
But def consult your state of residence's laws and regulations on these debts. Some states give a lot more leeway to get sued or garnished on private loans while others pretty much protect the person in debt and settling is more attractive to the loan sharks.
