So, I used to buy beer with my I.d. that clearly stated I was underage. It didn’t always work, but it worked enough. (This was before they changed minor’s i.d.’s to being vertical) I hedged my bet on the person working at the gas station not even doing the math, or not being of the highest education and combined that with the likelihood that a confusing math scenario under pressure, can often lead to just folding in order to avoid potential embarrassment. A little confidence could go a long way. The funniest time was when I was at dinner with my mom and ordered a margarita. The waitress carded me, I showed her my driver’s license and she said thanks and went and got my drink. My mom just looked at me and shook her head. She asked to see my fake i.d., so I showed her the same thing I showed the waitress and she was so confused. Her 1st thought was I must’ve known her, but I assured her I didn’t. Once she accepted the truth, she knew I couldn’t be stopped

I never had a vertical ID. I’m learning about them from your post.

My almost 13 year old asked us, ā€œWhat was life like in the 1900’s?ā€ šŸ˜”

I got carded this past weekend at a BBQ restaurant. Nice young lady, I would say mid 20's. She said she thought she would card me because I didn't have much gray hair. I didn't mind.

I was at a supermarket buying smokes and the guy said we need id. I said I don't have it on me. Guy says we can't and won't sell smokes to anyone without id. I take my baseball cap off and the guys "oh" and scans the smokes.

Who the hell is rolling around these days without ID? I work in a liquor store, and I'm constantly baffled by people who are just driving around all day without their license. Even if you're not driving, what's the logic not to bring it with you?

I have had the salt and pepper look since my late 20s. I was surprising how little I got carded once the gray started appering. Now I just use the dad joke "sure, make me feel young" when asked for ID.

I had a similar thing buying alcohol from a supermarket during covid. Cashier looks at me trying to work out if I'm old enough, pull down my mask, he hit the button to approve immediately. Im left wondering if I have young eyes and an old jawline.

I find I'm more likely to be carded by young folks, who either can't judge age or, more likely, don't want to get in trouble with their boss.

For me it's more frequently older boomer cashiers who tap me for ID checks, and it's a toss up as to whether they're just more diligent about policy than younger employees or being Moral Orels out of spite. It kinda pisses off my partner and I tbh--we're both mid-40s, she has full on gray raven wings, and I'm going slightly salt and pepper in visible places. Being carded to us just feels like adding on an inconvenience for the sake of further policing our vices. And having tended bar professionally, if you can't eyeball most folks past a certain age, you're wasting both your time and the customer's and needlessly pissing off someone you want to tip you.

Sorry complying with laws and store policies is such a huge inconvenience. šŸ™„ Sheesh.

The law is 21 and older. Asking someone that is obviously over 21 is asinine.

On, it's so inconvenient. šŸ™„ Seriously. We're old enough to not be bothered by this stuff. It's childish to act like it's a big deal.

I just relised I haven't been carded in 20+ years. I think if some bar keep did card me I'd be just be confused & speechless, trying to remember what I'm supposed to do.

I was working in a liquor store in 2022 and had the occasional person say something along the line of "that was quick" and when I said the above it would take them a couple seconds to process it but then I would the "oh..." I'm an '85 baby, I feel ya...

Wait until you are not carded, and you did not notice the cashier ever even glance in your general direction. It’s like they can feel your age. loll

It blows when they ask for my ID, and I don't frown or act inconvenienced, but they'll still let me know, "it's just for the cameras!" like, damn dude! you could've let me do a little dance in my head without breaking my kneecaps! 🄲
