This is the first time I’ve ever heard about this.
And it is amazing!
ElectricBullet@reddit
How concentric are the Chinese threads? I don't know how much care would be taken when threading an AS replica. I would be interested in seeing how the sights line up with a bore laser.
And can you use any 0.750" OD barrel with the trunnion, or only your barrels? A carbine build would need a 16" barrel.
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
They are very well made and they run pretty much out of the box. But I can’t say I’ve ever used the sights on any grease gun. :-)
The barrel nuts I do are right at .750. I’m sure I can hold my nose and do a 16” barrel. Come January, that shouldn’t be necessary for anyone.
KrinkyDink2@reddit
When you you say the only non GI parts I assume you still need GI bolt, springs and trigger components to complete it?
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
Yes. And the rods and plate.
4runner4lifePDX@reddit
Can you use the Indianapolis Ordnance bolt, or does it have to be the original?
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
Good question. Since the bolt rides on the rails and not the sides of the receiver, I’m not sure it would be an issue. If you get me the IO bolt diameter I will check that for you.
4runner4lifePDX@reddit
Yours is a modified original?
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
I use unmodified GI M3A1 bolts and the GI trigger parts. Semi conversions aren’t really my thing.
agatathelion@reddit
Which "AS" brand? For...research purposes
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
https://www.evike.com/products/41314/
ElectricBullet@reddit
Does yours have the charging handle? The title says M3A1 but the picture shows a cover with the charging handle. I wonder if it's a default picture, or if it's a mix of the two versions.
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
Pic #3 is one of mine on the left and an original GI on the right. Mine don’t have the charging handle.
GunnitRust@reddit
Standard or electric blowback?
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
The ones I’ve done are electric. I don’t think you need to spend extra on the blowback.
GunnitRust@reddit
All post samples?
I haven’t done a centerfire AS conversion yet. Might be a fun project and it looks like everything o need can be done on a manual lathe.
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
I only do posties, yeah.
agatathelion@reddit
Interesting, it seems like the bolt can be repurposed and drilled for a firing pin and AR hammer
GunnitRust@reddit
sigh Time to build that Filipino grease gun clone.
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I’m not the SME on semi conversions as I only really do posties. But I do know they get done that way.
agatathelion@reddit
If it's the matrix brand, i found a forum from about a decade ago where they used the bolt with some modification, and an ar15 fcg to make a semi auto, but assuming the bolt is the same OD as the originals, I'd have to install a denial to the tube.
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
They may have toned it down since then. It seems to me the bolt isn’t much of anything now but a cover over the AS mechanism.
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
Woah.
YXIDRJZQAF@reddit
is there an estimate on cost to complete?
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
The cost for these parts are listed on subgun.fun.
You will still need a bolt, action rod and springs and a trigger assembly. The ejector can be made without too much trouble and mounted in the Chinese lower cover.
LedZempalaTedZimpala@reddit
Im assuming barrel too?
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
I make barrels.
GenLeonidas@reddit
Ok. So how do we make it slow, and therefore “allowed”? I’m interested in this enough to go buy everything now. Do we need the metric barrel nut for Chinese….. that’s listed on the site you mentioned?
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
You will need to follow the usual rules for semi auto, striker bolt, denial bar, whatever, it’s not my bag. If you have the wire stock on it, it’s going to be an SBR and you will need to form 1 it.
The barrel nut is necessary as the Chinese gun has a larger opening in the trunnion and is metric threaded. The little threaded ring contains the action plate whereas it lies in the grooves in the threads in the GI trunnion. See the third pic for for the difference. The Chinese gun is about a half inch longer inside and therefore the aluminum spacer fills that in.
GenLeonidas@reddit
I appreciate it. I was hoping to not need that lol. It’s a little pricey. But you gotta pay to play. Just for the parts listed on the site, and the AS, you’re at like 940. Then you still need a bolt, an action rod, and a trigger pack.
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
A chopped up parts kit is five grand.
No-Savings2297@reddit
What makes the AS version more desirable then let's say a denix replica?
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
Denix won’t work. It’s screwed together and the dimensions are wrong. Ask me why I know.
4runner4lifePDX@reddit
You made these parts? Any idea where I could get similar parts?
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
Subgun.fun
AdorableFan1439@reddit
Idk why I've never before realized that you could probably build one of these out of an actual grease gun.
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
Now that would be cool. Convert an original M3 into an airsoft gun.
AdorableFan1439@reddit
I meant like an industrial grease gun into a pew pew grease gun lmao.
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
No matter what you start with, the rules of physics still apply.
YXIDRJZQAF@reddit
I really want one of these, seems nearly impossible to build though? Is there a guide or parts somewhere I haven’t seen?
YXIDRJZQAF@reddit
Oh I didn’t realize it was that easy to modify the airsoft one
YXIDRJZQAF@reddit

TheCompanionCrate@reddit
Certain AS grease gun?
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
Yes that one.
TheCompanionCrate@reddit
Oh I get the picture now, thats sweet as hell. I always wondered if that could be done with the ones that were originally stamped pieces of shit (sten or m3).
FaustinoAugusto234@reddit (OP)
It’s the same thickness metal and properly welded. The aluminum spacer at the back should help prevent the metal failures the GI guns suffered.
