About the season 6 intro

God, is a god, ok, not the best god representation but ok, Mephistopheles. But other than that, the warlord isn't a warlord (he is the leader of the cannibals, not a warlord), king is not a king ( he is an emperor). ๐คฃ Who edited this intro??? I want to edit alternative intros, formula and design is epic but the application is so bad! We should start an alternative Xena intro edit challenge. Who agrees?
summer_james2@reddit
Is this a request ๐๐๐๐๐๐ should I start this next ๐ง๐ง๐คช๐คช๐คช
Preference-Murky@reddit (OP)
YES!!! This is definitely a request!!! ๐๐๐
summer_james2@reddit
Omg I never want to attempt this again hahahaha I finished it. But itโs terrible .
Overall_Sandwich_671@reddit
Why not just stick with Poseidon (use the scene where he emerged from the sea in Motherhood) ok, he's dead now, but we had 4 whole seasons without him and he was still in the intro of every episode, and Mephistopheles was killed in his own episode any way (which was only the second episode of season 6), so that hardly matters.
Or, you know, show a clip of Ares.
Preference-Murky@reddit (OP)
Exactly, Ares would work so well, or Aphrodite โค๏ธ
Overall_Sandwich_671@reddit
Although, Aphrodite probably wouldn't find the term "ancient" gods very flattering!
Jahon_Dony@reddit
Emperors are kings.

I hate the S6 intro. S1-5 was perfect. I've never skipped the intros when rewatching and I love to chime in with the war cry. When they took it out, I was disappointed to say the least.

That shot, I hated it so much ๐
Aggravating_Mix8959@reddit
I have trouble looking at it. I don't like being reminded of that horror.ย
TellThatDevil@reddit
"Cannibals..." just wouldn't have the same ring to it ๐

I really disliked the S6 intro. I miss the war cry after โThe Dangerโ.
And the cannibal clip they used with the thing in the mouth so the juices can drip out as the humans cook made me think of, well, a human cooking with the juices dripping out every time I saw it haha But maybe thatโs just me being petty
Preference-Murky@reddit (OP)
That imagery and also gabrielle covered with disgusting orange goo is somewhat a deep childhood trauma for me๐คข
Aggravating_Mix8959@reddit
It's so disturbing to me that I have trouble with this episode.ย
Lost-identity1101@reddit
Itโs better once they added in the sound effects - without them the timing looks all weird.
OrangeClyde@reddit
OMG CAN YALL VIDEO EDITING ABLED FAN NERDS PLEASE DO THIS??? I LITERALLY always fantasize and think I wish some fandom people would make a new intro for every season from season 2 and on. I also distinctly remember on the original Xena DVDs commentary, rob says one of his biggest regrets is not making new show intros every season until the final season
Agent8699@reddit
A bizarre choice to spend time and money updating the opening credits when they knew it was the final season and theyโd stayed the same for five seasons.
I didnโt like all the inconsistent Gabrielles. Or really the use of clips from the first two seasons which were poorer quality.ย
lostworld21@reddit
I actually love the new intro, wish they had done it sooner when they updated the chakram in Season 5. I always thought it was weird still seeing Gabby in her old peasant clothes lol her look had evolved so much by that point. Loved the new shots of demon Gabby, the Gurkhan dance, the skull from Them Bones and the glimpse of Caesar. They coulda swapped out the gross looking cannibal for an actual warlord though
Mister_Sosotris@reddit
While the intro isnโt as cool as the original, the S6 intro has that great moment of the massive explosion and Gabby being thrown off her feet and that great moment of Gabby dancing with that flowy scarf. I always thought it worked really well with the music.
godsibi@reddit
I'm fine with it tbh. They went for strong imagery and it worked great imo. They used the footage from the Hercules trilogy for way too long. It was nice watching the work of six years in the intro.
I mean, this is a similar argument to the "why is Xena a warrior princess if she's not royalty". It's just for effect.
ViolinViolence@reddit
Agreed.
Preference-Murky@reddit (OP)
I agree but It could be wayy better though
ViolinViolence@reddit
I like it myself. I feel they were trying to highlight some of their costumes/makeups/effects and darker themes/episodes/characters and also their more nuanced/varied overall universe/scope. Mephistopheles is a pretty big big bad. "God" maybe not exactly, but is still very similar. I agree that the leader of the cannibals is not a warlord, but I don't feel it's so different either. I also agree that a king is not an emperor, but again, I don't feel that they are that different. I see this as a scope thing again. Emperor's (especially Roman (Caesar among them) are much grander and powerful. Caesar is a big part of Xena. I feel the tale of ancient Rome is a step up from the world of the little kings of past seasons. The intro has grown up, as has its characters. If we had to stick with just the exact meaning of the words in the into, we would be rather stuck as to what can be shown. And since the show plays around with quite a lot (times, history, countries, cultures, religions, myths, ect.) I am unbothered by, nor bound to, what is shown in the intros. If I can't flex with the intro, then the show itself would prove bothersome as well.
I feel overall that this intro shows the show in a more epic, adult, diverse light.
I would love some Ares in there though. ๐

Laaaaaaaame! Give me the OG intro

Yes!!
lyssamariano@reddit
Even Lucy in some commentary wondered why they used the same intro until the last season
Wise_Airport5655@reddit
The best part of the opening scenes of some episodes is when Gabrielle appears, precisely, in the part that says "passion"๐๐ณ๏ธโ๐
Meushell@reddit
๐ I never noticed. Iโll have to watch for that.
Wise_Airport5655@reddit
This doesn't happen in every episode. It happens more in the episodes that show more of their relationship, such as those that have more dialogue between them. Gabi always appears in the opening in the "passion" part ๐๐ณ๏ธโ๐
IseQween@reddit
Are you saying the standard S1-5 intro images and words were altered where you viewed the series? They were always the same for me for every ep.
Wise_Airport5655@reddit
Yes, I'm saying that the scene that Gabrielle appears in is when she says "passion". But, this doesn't happen in every episode.
Wise_Airport5655@reddit
They are the same scenes, but there are times when Gabi appears in some opening scenes in the "danger" part and there are some episodes where Gabi appears, when they say "passion" in the opening.
PrairieThorn476@reddit
What? Was this their idea of fun? Along with "No xxx were injured..."
banana-bread-toast@reddit
The problem was only changing it for season 6, by then the sounds are so engraved in your head from the other one so I donโt like it by default.
jdpm1991@reddit
The oepning credits were never accurate with their scenes
Honest-Mail2249@reddit
I liked the idea of a new intro, but it really was a mess...
IseQween@reddit
Well, the S6 intro certainly reflected its difference "feel" from prior years. I'm not complaining. It was like seeing new angles to my favorite show.
NoReach1699@reddit
I would love a specific intro for each season
Preference-Murky@reddit (OP)
Me too!
Preference-Murky@reddit (OP)
No warlords no kings๐คฃ๐
