The weigh in for a fight is one year before

There would be less need for extreme weight loss, and more time to recover before the fight. It would be more of a competition to see who can train the most effectively over time. At the end both fighters would be absolute bruisers but still somewhere on the same level. It would be interesting to track the fighter's training, and would create hype. I have a related idea which is a bit more complicated but hear me out. Competitions are held once every four years, so fighters can have a year or two off, then a year or so of normal training to get in good shape for the weigh in, and just the one year of peak condition training so their bodies aren't wrecked by years of crazy training. But there are four of these so there is one quadrennial competition every year, and there are year classes based on the multiple of four years they are born, e.g. the 1990s fight with the 1994s and the 1998s, the 1991s fight with the 1995s and the 1999s, etc. People in the separate year-multiple brackets know they'll never compete against other brackets, so they'll be happy to train together and mentor each other, it would encourage people to retire on a high note instead of coming back four years later when they're past it, and it would be interesting to see fighters come back every four years to see how they've matured.
