5070 Ti vs 5080 now, or wait for the Super cards?

After a lot of digging through benchmarks and reviews, I’ve basically narrowed my GPU upgrade down to the RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080. I’m not interested in AMD cards, and I plan to stick strictly to the 5070 Ti, 5070 Ti Super, 5080, or 5080 Super.
Here’s where I’m at:
- Pricing in Australia → The 5070 Ti is $1569 AUD, while the 5080 comes in at $2199 AUD. I’ve decided to go with the ASUS TUF brand and SKU for all the cards.
- Performance difference → Almost every review shows the 5080 is only about \~10% faster than the 5070 Ti, which makes the $700 price gap pretty hard to justify personally.
- Future releases → CES in January is heavily rumored to bring “Super” refreshes, which could mean better price-to-performance or even a price drop on the existing cards. That’s less than 4 months away, so I’m debating whether waiting is the smarter move and picking up one of the new ones or a potential cheaper existing lineup.
- VRAM considerations → My current 2080 is clearly bottlenecked by its 8GB of VRAM in modern titles. I feel like 16GB should be plenty for the years ahead at 1440p. The rumoured 24GB cards don’t really tempt me if the actual performance uplift is as minimal or non-existent as leaks suggest. This is assuming I am correct in thinking at 1440p 16GB should be fine for the next 3 years or so without needing more.
For context, I’ve already done part 1 of my upgrade and picked up a 9800X3D bundle which replaced my 8700K previous build. Right now, I’m still running a 2080, and it’s struggling in literally all the recent releases. I game exclusively at 1440p, don’t like relying on DLSS, and absolutely refuse to turn on frame generation.
So my dilemma is this: Do I grab the 5070 Ti now as the better value, stretch for the 5080, or hold off until January for the Super refreshes?
Would love to hear thoughts from anyone in a similar situation or from anyone who's also had this internal debate and made their decision.

I’m thinking about the same options + 9070 XT. So far I’ll be waiting for the Super variant of the cards, my 3080 can handle a few more months…
