If people have a room they literally never go in their house is too big and they should downsize so those of us who would like a bigger house can buy one and not have to wait for old people to die.

Weird comment; Are *all* the houses bigger than yours unavailable?

Obviously not but i know several families with kids in school who are limited where they can move to due to catchment areas and i know it grates on them that single people or couples within the area live in big family homes with rooms they dont use and space they no longer need. Of course its their right, they can live where they want for as long as they want, but the frustration exists hence my comment. This would also free up the smaller houses for others who are trying to get on the property ladder or start families, its all a chain.

Why should a stranger give a shit about a strangers catchment area. Like can you honestly envisage a single human in the world speaking to their partner like “Honey, we are so selfish, let’s get a two bed flat so some hypothetical family can enjoy our home”. It also wouldn’t free up the smaller house because the hypothetical bastards with the empty room would move *into* said small house

Our living room. It's only mildly larger than our bathroom and completely useless. I'm pretty certain it only exists for some planning permission box ticking exercise. We threw a chair and a telly in there just for the sake of decoration, but we only use it exactly once a year on Christmas day, since it's where we put the tree.

My sons. He does not look after himself let alone his room. Issues.

We have an Anderson shelter under the house that we don't really have a reason to go in

Sometimes my bedroom. Weeks can go by when I never go in except to pick-up some clothes.

Middle floor bathroom - looks lovely but I have no reason to go in there.

Any suggestion you are not surviving by eating out of bins and sleeping in the woods is downvoted here. See also any suggestion of eating in a decent non-chain restaurant.

The one room I am never in, and will never be in, is an empty room..

Downstairs, I don't go into any of the rooms to the left of the hallway, upstairs I only use the main bedroom and ensuite, so that's four bedrooms and the main bathroom that never get used. Unless I'm looking for my cat. This house is a bit too big for me.

Not a room but I've never been the the back half of my (old) garden, lived there for about 15 years. Its a big garden compared to the neighbours but by no means a forest. Its just 1/3rd longer than theirs. If I had money and owned the place I'd probably add *something* there but never felt the need to go back there. We're lucky because the rent was cheap and the landlord pushed against the rental agency raising our rent many times over the years. Would love to buy the place it do it up for my mum but don't have house buying money.

Had a 3 sitting rooms in old house. 1 of which was solely used for Christmas Day only and never used again in the year

Jeez a “Christmas room” is pretty cool. I like that

My ensuite. The shower isn't compatible with the new boiler so can't be used. The tap on the sink leaks. The toilet seat is super uncomfortable and I can't wash my hands due to the leaky tap. We have another bathroom so I just don't go in the ensuite. It needs gutting but that costs time and money, of which we're lacking right now.

31 years and I’ve never been in the cellar in my house. I was always too scared as a child and it still gives me the creeps now.

When I had a partner and a larger house rented together. The down stairs loo. We just aimed guests at it exclusively. I'm pretty sure neither of us used it in anger while we lived there. Current house on my own is much much smaller and the only place I don't go or use is the small cupboard under the stairs. But that's mostly because I've put a TV stand Infront of it.

We rarely use the dining room. It's along a corridor/hall (passing two other rooms on the same side of the house - it's a long converted bungalow) from the kitchen, and we're only two people who just tend to eat at our small kitchen table. A spare bedroom is across from the kitchen - it would be perfect to combine them into a large and sociable kitchen-diner but we don't have the money to do so. I don't know how the people who built it ever thought it was a good idea to have the dining room almost at the opposite side of the house from the kitchen. I almost feel the need for a hostess trolley!

I'll give the same answer I did last time this was asked. I'm too poor to answer this question.

We live in a 2 bedroom OAP bungalow and one of the rooms is so crammed with shite that you literally can’t step into it. Not a poor issue 🤣

Spare bedroom since my eldest moved out. It's now just a junk room. I occasionally open the door, tut and close the door again.

We also have a junk room. I would really like my husband to clear it out (it's his junk) so we have a spare bedroom!!

A few years ago, I barely went into my loft conversion. It's small with very sloped ceilings. I just used it as random storage. Then when I started WFH, I turned it into a home office. So now I use every room in my house.

Yes. Two rooms and an outbuilding. I do feel a bit guilty about this and have thought about being more productive with them but the rooms in the house are tiny and I don't think even a Ukrainian refugee would find this a suitable place to live.

I don't use my sitting room that much. The dogs spend more time in there than me.

Bedroom. Its nice and and all that, but my living room is better, cosier, and the dog sleeps there (she's old, blind and howls if she thinks she is alone) so I like to be with her all the time. And my sofa is amazing!

Besides my housemates rooms. I only go in the living room to get stuff out the fridge there. I'm not a big TV watcher and while the current crop are a good bunch, the old housemates were cunts and I would never hang out with cunts like that.

The spare room is pretty much only entered for 30 seconds a day to check the cat litter tray for any poos that need lifted.
