Madagascar

We are on our second circumnavigation, planning to arrive in Madagascar in about a month. Looks from noonsite as though times have changed in the past 16 years and there are a lot of requirements for entry. Has anyone done this lately who can provide some advice, outside of what noonsite says?

Madagascar clearance is a bit of a mess right now as they just recently re-opened to cruising boats after Covid, and are still sorting things out.
My suggestion is to go to the website OSASA dot org dot za. This accomplishes two things (actually three). First they have a section on surrounding countries with clearance requirements. The Madagascar section is fairly up to date.
Second is put in a request through OSASA to get added to the "Sail to South Africa" WhatsApp group. This is where all the good stuff gets asked and answered. Madagascar has been consuming a lot of bandwidth there lately. In that group are people in Madagascar that are up to date on the clearance procedures, as well as cruisers that are in the process of, or recently visited Madagascar.
Third, you are going to need to get to this web page eventually as you have to register through them to enter South Africa on a cruising boat.
Good Luck!.

No info from me but have you reached out on SeaPeople app and on NoForeignLand app?

No, but good idea. I don’t really use those much.

Those are worth a shot because you can see who else on the app may be in the region, visually. Mauritius, Reunion, Seychelles, East and South Africa. Probably most cruisers in those areas are going or did go to Madagascar and will have the skinny or maybe know of an agent that would. Good Luck, and fair winds!
