I haven't been able to find any official documentation yet listing what's changed. The update went through successfully.

Just fired my pc up and was offered it.
Clown_Car_Addict@reddit
My 14900hx laptop still does not see this update.
zztazzi@reddit
Gotta take them out and update separately. Same thing happened to my laptop using VMD. Best bet is to disable VMD in bios, install "windows to go" on a USB, boot off the usb, install Samsung magician and update the drives. Make sure you backup the OS incase something goes wrong.
Clown_Car_Addict@reddit
If I have to open up my laptop again it will be to install some Corsair T705's to replace those 990's.
Duck_The_Pato@reddit
everytime I try to update he says "Failed to update firmware on the selected drive."
can someone help me?
Mr_Korben_Dallas@reddit
Try writing a Windows recovery boot (or something like linux rescue\recovery cd\dvd) to a flash drive and booting it, then try updating the disk firmware that way.
Duck_The_Pato@reddit
the bios was configured to intel rapid, I just need to change to AHCI to perform the update!
LongDraw1@reddit
I got the update notice as well on my 990 Pro 1TB, and like others, haven't had the issues that are addressed by this FW update. However, I am unable to update my drive because when the local repair shop cloned my original 128GB M.2, they didn't change the drive mode to AHCI, so Magician doesn't fully see the drive information, and apparently FW updates can't be applied.
I'm using a Legion Y730 15ICH, incase someone knows for certain the specific process for changing to AHCI without bricking my laptop.

Hi all, a few minutes ago, I turned on my PC and received a notification that there's a new firmware update for my
SSD 990 PRO 1TB S7HDNJOY412298D
The old firmware is 5B2QJXD7
The new firmware is 7B2QJXD7
My SSD is full of data. Should I update it now or wait a few days to be safe? Thanks!!!

If you're not getting any blue screens and you're unsure, you can just wait. I updated both my 1TB and 2TB 990 Pro drives with heatsinks just now. I wasn't getting any blue screens before, and I'm still not. One hour isn't really long enough for an issue to appear out of nowhere, but if your data is precious and you haven't had any problems so far, waiting is the safer option. If nothing is critical, I always wait at least two weeks before even doing basic BIOS updates. I'm still on Win 11 Pro 23H2, which I've pinned with a group policy even wasn't offered that blue screening updates everyone was talking about.

Yeah, I've had two 990 pros since December with my new 9800X3D build, and not a single crash yet. I pretty much only use it for gaming though, so typically the bulk of any writing that is being done is when I install a new game, as saves aren't really going to do much of anything.
Got the firmware notice, but am waiting a bit.

From Samsung website
NVMe SSD-990 PRO Series Firmware
(7B2QJXD7) To address the intermittent non-recognition and blue screen issue. (Release: September 2025)
BlueSnaggleTooth359@reddit
Hmm so it does sound like it has to do with the MS update issue.
AppropriatePresent99@reddit
That update was for specific controllers that certain manufacturers use. Samsung don't use the controllers that were supposed to have been affected. Personally, I've had zero problems with either of my 990 pros, although that doesn't mean others aren't.

Six months ago, my system drive disappeared while I was playing. I thought it was broken. The drive disappeared in the BIOS and only reappeared after a power cycle. The drive disappeared again a couple of weeks later.
Recently, the problem returned, and the drive disappeared several times, most recently last night.
Magician found no problems with the drive. Today, I saw that a new firmware update was released. I'll install it. If the drive disappearing issues reoccur, I'll comment on my post.

Yesterday I upgraded to 1 gigabit internet I decided to buy a 2TB 990 PRO to replace my SATA HD and to my surprise after I installed it and ran the Magician software I had a firmware update 7B2QJXD7 for both my 1TB and 2TB drives.
I never usually run the software but after a new 990 pro install I decided to run it.
I am not seeing much news about this firmware but I installed 7B2QJXD7 without an issue and haven't noticed any problems with the drives or my system so far.

Updated today after I got the notification 2 days ago and everything seems to be fine here. Had no issue on previous firmware though - no crashes, no BSODs. Did CrystalDiskMark test with new firmware and it's comparable with previous firmware. Win 10 Pro and 990 PRO 4TB heatsink edition as secondary drive, Aorus X570 Xtreme motherboard.
jfriend99@reddit
My Samsung Magician doesn't show a firmware update for either of my 990 Pro drives (1TB and 4TB). Maybe not available widely yet?
DJMeanAl@reddit
Update your Samsung Magician to the latest version, then it will show up.
jfriend99@reddit
I forced a restart of Samsung Magician and the new firmware showed up. I guess it just wasn't checking.
BlueSnaggleTooth359@reddit
I just got sent the update notice a few hours ago.
RaminCamalzade@reddit (OP)
It could be.
Nobby41@reddit
Did it shutdown your pc after the update?
RaminCamalzade@reddit (OP)
Yes. The Magician asked me to do this. And I turned it off and on after 1 minute.

Had my 990 Pro 2TB perform a disappearing act twice this week, both times dumping me into the UEFI with it nowhere to be found. I really hope this is a successful fix.
Xercen@reddit
Just read the comments here. Thank you all. I'm going to update my 2tb pro. Wish me luck!
zztazzi@reddit
How'd it go?
Xercen@reddit
Seems to be working fine. I updated and pc seems absolutely fine

I just got notification to update my 990 Pro from 4B2QJXD7 to 7B2QJXD7
I am updating now, hope everything goes ok :)
Vilavek@reddit
How'd it go? Thinking of updating my 990 Pro from 4B2QJXD7 to 7B2QJXD7 as well.
zztazzi@reddit
Just updated all three of mine. So far so good, will test in gaming.
blob8543@reddit
Do we know what was causing the blue screens?
SOAPLOBSTER@reddit
I just updated my 990 Pro 1TB (OS drive) and 2TB drive. No issues. Did some performance checks and it's been running well too.

I had some strange microstutters at cpu idle for about 3 weeks before doing this update. Either a coincidence but microstutters went away.
drkorencek@reddit
Got the update a few hours ago, works fine (previous version worked fine too so 🤷) as far as I can tell..
shrddr@reddit
Seems to fix the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR blue screen. I previously had last 1.2TB of 4TB unusable because writing there caused this BSOD. Had to set aside that space as unallocated to stop the crashes. With the new firmware, I've been able to partition that area of the drive and write to it without any BSOD so far.
emmy2091@reddit
So my problems might be due to the ssd? For months my pc would start, lights, fans and all but no monitor signal. Had to restart once or twice to finally get into windows. Then suddenly whea bsod during gaming and my pc would boot straight into bios and it said disabled next to the nvme. Reseated it and it worked again. Racked my brain about what the problem could be for weeks now.

Been having intermittent BSoD crashes where it seems like my drive is getting disconnected for some reason; hoping this firmware update fixes it!
