One time I was doing summer job out of state, and when I knocked on a door I heard a grandma yelling at her granddaughter about goat simulator and how it was satanic because there was a pentagram in the game.
The granddaughter was yelling back about how its just a goat game.
goat simulator is slop like, say, sharknado. you can’t make a so-bad-it’s-good thing without setting out to make a good thing. zany lolrandom for midwits
people got used to modern shadows and cloth physics lmao.
I still remember when the Metro games had a scene where a cloth was waving on a moving train and people were dumbfounded about how far that tech had gone lmao
Literall older than me, doesn't run without the fan patch, incredibly dated in every way. Fuck I love that game. Here's to hoping the second part is good.
Conquest of Elyisum 5. Genuinely very good. One of the ugliest games I’ve ever seen and the gameplay is fine but not amazing. Somehow they jammed so much gameplay into it that a hundred 4/10 features makes for a very solid experience.
Redundant words add suspense and tension to how you express yourself. The fact you express yourself in a boring way probably contributes to your lack of acquiring bodies of the female nature with an over abundance of posterior.
Nah not when we had such releases as Metal Gear Solid 3, San Andreas, Half-Life 2, Resident Evil 4, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Need for Speed, Devil May Cry 3 all 1-2 years before it.
Even for 2006 it was barely passable as gameplay. No one I knew picked it up for the gameplay, it was for the graphics and open world lol.
I disagree. Gameplay is good but graphics are a 2/10 and the whole thing feels so corporate and soulless. Can’t see it being as timeless as 3 without an offline story mode either.
I mean far as classics go kittens game and trimps are both long burns both would take a year at least of everyday pointed playing and several years if your just kinda letting things idle. Ngu idle and increulation were both indie developed ngu is complete and increulation the dev got sick and kinda dipped, the former is deep and requires evolving strategy to make good strides the latter is one you can kinda idle on another monitor and kinda click things here and there while watching progress get faster and faster. Facatrio and rimworld are my two most played games of all time both have gameplay loops that can be done that grow incrementally but both are way more freeform and can play however the player wants. But the incremental games sub last i checked has a running list of all the classics and lot of the new stuff, pokeclicker used to be one of my favorites till the retooled a big section of it and I kinda walked away but still fun, imo need to have a auto clicker tho to make that not a slog im fine with a slog but its a bit much.
One of my best friends cousins used to play that game religiously and somehow talked me into playing with him. I quit, and 10 years later decided id give it a look-through since I had massive nostalgia for it, and what do you know i spawned in a random world and that fucker was still playing it and we reminesced for a while
What do you mean spawned into a random world? Is there another stick RPG I'm not aware of? The flash game from many years ago was a single player adventure, no worlds or anything.
I recommend it to people who even don't give a shit about Star Wars. It's a solid sci-fi action game from the perspective of just 1 soldier in a wider galactic conflict.
I grew up playing battlefront 2 on the PS2, there are some amazing mods for it on steam that completely upscales all the graphics to the point it looks like something that came out 5-6 years ago, completely redoing all of the maps as well
Battlefront graphics were actually pretty good for 2005 and the gameplay was excellent. I put in like a thousand hours on that multiplayer back when it came out.
I thought it was ridiculous Otto was doing all that stuff as a grade schooler but then saw a video of some kid from Brazil landing a 1080 and was like oh, I guess it is possible.
Bro, the kids today are really treating real life skateboarding how we treated Tony Hawks Pro Skater video games. They are out here seemingly breaking the rules and physical limits of their bodies and the universe to land the most insane shit I’ve ever seen. Even just watching the youth run lines at the local skatepark is crazy compared to when I was a kid!
The gameplay in Battlefront 2 is simple but good enough that I still play it from time to time all these years later. Can’t be a 4/10 if so many people still love it.
Honestly, the gameplay, at least on the general gunplay and feel of the controls, was pretty dated even by 2010 standards, especially when you consider games like Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3, Bioshock, and Gears of War 2 predate New Vegas, and some even predate FO3.
I'm not saying it had to have as smooth of gunplay as a more focused legacy FPS or anything, but it's wild how much some NV fans (not you) will go to glaze the worst aspects of that game as if they need to be justified. The freedom of expression and how that interacts with every story in the game make for an amazing role-playing experience. That's what New Vegas does right. No one needs to pretend it's something it isn't.
I always think I'm really lucky because I've done several playthroughs of NV on PC, the first being just a few months after release. And in all that time, I haven't had more than 10 crashes or game breaking bugs.
Also, always vanilla. I'm kinda iffy (and lazy) about mods in general.
I cannot tell you how many times I've crashed right when the game starts, or when you go out into the world and all the DLC hits you at once, without mods I would not have been able to play for more than 5 seconds at a time
That's really insane to me. For the longest time, I really thought people were just memeing about the constant crashes until I started hearing from people like you.
Absolute hell to install manually but if you have wabbajack and/or nexus premium you'll be good in 20 minutes (1hours without premium coz you need to slick on the download link one by one, but it does the rest). Then add encounters mods, war mods and "start anywhere as anyone" mods, "level up faster" mods, and you can roleplay as basically anybody coherent in that setting. Soldier, prostitute, merchant, slave trader, explorer selling junk, hunter etc.
I got incredibly lucky about 5-6 years ago? Premium forever was on sale for $50 and I didn't know if it would be worth it, but they got incredibly big, and I use it for my annual Skyrim modded playthrough I pick up once a year a lot
Being someone who didn’t play it back in the day and doesn’t have the nostalgia. It’s an amazing game, but the gameplay and graphics made it so tough to get into. I probably started a new game and played for an hour or two like 4 or 5 times before I got hooked, but I’m so glad I did.
New Vegas is the best fallout game I've played and I'd say one of the best RPGs ever made, but that gameplay is ass. Don't lie to yourself. The whole thing is clunky and glitchy and you feel like you might fly off the world at any point in time due to the physics engine and the combat is mid at best even for an rpg.
I've played it some time ago and I found the gameplay completely fine? No mods, and I really enjoyed it. Barely ran into any bug, and a couple of crashes..
On the other hand, I was immediately baptized by the cars during my first two hours of FO4
Mid guns op melee gunplay itself restricts itself in bad ways ( eg. if your strength isn’t high enough for a weapon it’ll be super shaky) very rudimentary sneak mechanics busted movement engine (could be a pro depending on who you ask) granted, it’s all copy pasted from fo3 which means it’s either not their fault or a massive detriment but still for a 2012 game it’s kind of lacking, cod bo2 came out the same year
it has good mechanics and the gameplay is fun, but it's not good. For some reason fallout 3 and vegas both felt way worse than oblivion did, way more clunky and unresponsive compared to oblivion, which for all its jank felt buttery smooth
The engine was old when the game came out, the gunplay wasn‘t great, everyone is aggressively moon-jogging at all times because there’s no sprinting, melee feels like punching water… NV came out in 2010, just like Mass Effect 2, Assassins Creed 2, Bioshock 2, Star Wars Force Unleashed 2 (what’s with all the sequels that year btw?), Metro 2033, CoD: Black Ops, and compared to all of those NV was technically weak. I like it more than most of the others i mentioned and definitely put the most hours into it out of all of them, but let’s be real here, the gameplay is 70% running and shooting and 30% talking with NPCs from Oblivion, and neither aspect was implemented greatly, it was heavily carried by the story.
Everything you said was valid until this point. NV has great voice acting and facial textures compared to the freak show that is oblivion. It's one of the major ways NV improved on earlier Bethesda games
I think UberDanger said it best, about the NPC. When you talk to a guy you don't know if he's the spearpoint of an ideology, with 5 lines of dialogue on repeat, or a fully sentient human, with more personality than most people you know.
So what you're noticing is the knock-on effects of the 2008 crash. Studios had less access to capital, and we're generally more risk-averse around the time, so they went with safe bets (largely as an industry trend, obviously I'm speaking in generalities). Studios then saw how much cheaper and more profitable those were, so greenlit more sequels, resulting in... well the general shitty state that mass entertainment is in and trying to pull out of rn.
Lethal company is pretty stale if u dont have friends and the gameplan is almost always the same. A lot of people dislike it at first but if it is your kinda game and u have friends to play with it is insanely fun.
Any ubi title. They're great at ideas, decent at... Looks? But everything else should be outsourced to someone who knows their shit. The worst thing is there is no precedent for the populus to vote or suggest that an IP be taken or licensed away from the initial owner and ubishit is legendary at a game called "out of sight out of mind".
"Hello developer, there is this incredibly pressing issue with your main title right now."
-Weve heard your feedback, and as you've suggested, we're adding... More colors to the profile picture tool.
100% how many of these are they going to fart out and then some critic calls it a master piece.
"Cosy looking village, dopey protagonist, blue trees, repetitive crafting and combat mechanics, gets to the dark levels, boss is a reflection of protagonists mental health" - 10/10 WORLD ENDING MASTERPIECE - Kotaku
I'd say 7/10, or thereabouts. Sure, it's pixel art, but it does what it tries to do, and pixel art isn't that easy to make look good. For pixel art, it's perfectly decent.
It's not as if it's some poor attempt at 3d graphics, like the oblivion character models
Less exaggeration, you could port it almost perfectly to a 32 bit console, with a lot more effort a 16 bit console but still- fucking amazing game for something with most of its sprites made in mspaint
I grew up with a Gameboy Advance running a bootleg cartridge full of NES games. And I spent 2019-2021 emulating GBA, GBC and NES games. I love that kinda graphics.
Note that „i like this“ doesn’t equal „it’s good“. Undertale has its own unique style and with any more demanding graphics it would probably not have reached its global hype (probably it would still be in development today, seeing how it was made), it’s one of the core features making it unique, but objectively it‘s black and white pixel drawings a fifth grader could make in MS paint. That’s not 10/10 graphics.
Building feels clunky, and mobility doesn't feel great a lot of the time, but the idea and execution makes the game overall amazing. The insects are definitely not the only bugs you are fighting though!
I desperately miss being able to hide in closets. I think hiding in the closet and hoping the ghost goes away while your friends are outside wondering if you got got is so much better than the current "Maybe they won't find me if I'm behind the couch?"
I would rather die to my own hubris than due to being unable to figure out if I am in line of sight.
I used to play the shit out of that game with my friends until they updated it too much.
I have attempted to play it multiple times and I have concluded that I am sadly too dumb for Kenshi and that the only thing I can contribute to the community is more handlebar discourse.
I have like 700 hours on it on steam (probably triple that if I count all the time I spent on it as a kid) and still go through the five stages once in a while. The thing that saddens me the most about modern gaming is that we will almost certainly never see a Spore 2
The thing that saddens me the most about modern gaming is that we will almost certainly never see a Spore 2
Check out Thrive by Revolutionary Games Studio. It's a free open source game that is still heavily in development but it targets to become what Spores original concept was and what Spore never became.
Best answer imo. Literally a sequence of minigames where you can create a creature and "evolve" it into the space age. Even for 2008 it was lackluster and fell way behind what it was promised to be, still an fun game.
I wouldn’t say Spore is considered an “amazing game” by the internet. Sure, it’s achieved a kinda meme status, but I remember it being pretty panned when it got released because it was one of first big examples of AAA games way over promising and massively underdelivering. It was just as bad if not worse than what happened with No Man’s Sky.
Mafia 3 is incredibly addicting to me, and the story seems to enthrall many others. Despite looking like shit on consoles and its only good gameplay element being the executions
Missing features, occasional immersion breaking bugs, not much to do if you don't use external mission generation/dynamic campaign engines. Still a fucking goat.
Alright, this one is probably going to raise some eyebrows, BUT...
Minecraft.
The gameplay isn't anything fancy, just surviving and not dying against quite easy monsters in the dark. The gameplay in that regard is simple for today's standards. Graphics are quite self explanatory, just cubes and simple models.
The game also has quite a few bugs, but some will NOT be fixed as they're adopted as features, like Quasi connectivity. Luckily Java is way more stable than bugrock, but it still has it's own quirks.
Despite all that, all of those work perfectly together and many of us have probably dedicated our entire childhood on this amazing game! I bet we will still talk about and play this game in 100 years!
To be fair, as a battle sim it’s a 10/10 IMO, still buggy but honestly some of the most fun I’ve had in any game ever. The rest of the game is a ridiculous mess with so many weird design dead ends that aren’t really fleshed out enough to form a cohesive play style throughout the game but still clearly ate up a ton of dev resources and time, like bandit and merchant paths. I still love the game and will probably dump a few thousand more hours in when the dlc comes out though.
My point was more that they're both extremely simplistic. Among Us delivers an incredible experience through a game that has very little in the way of coding or complex visuals (as compared to, say, a triple A release). My comment is intended as a huge compliment: Among Us has had incredible success without need for those things.
Final Fantasy 7 (the original) might fit in this. Graphics were at an awkward point in time where 3D was still somewhat in its infancy. And turn based RPGs certainly aren't everyone's cup of tea (even with the ATB system). Still got a good story a grand adventure though.
For me, it’s gotta be The Witcher (the first one). That game looks like hot dog water filtered through a black and mild. It plays like a tractor trailer being pulled by a half dead mule.
But god dammit, it’s just so charming. Those Polish fuckers made a game with more heart and soul than the vast majority of games today, and they did it with less budget than a high school theater production. I’m very excited for the remake, if only to see how much of a jump forward it will be graphically.
Dragon Age Origins hasn't aged well in terms of graphics and gameplay. The game had a ton of bugs that they just never bothered to fix and is still in my top 5 favorite games ever.
I specifically remember one bug that is burned into my memory. If you made a Spirit Warrior right after the expansion launched, your character would lose their eyelids. So you just had these giant eyes bulging out of your skull. I said "In the name of Andraste..." and then just turned my helmet on for cutscenes.
Mentions da:o, but doesnt mention memory leak...
But yeah, came to say the same thing. Also, somehow still has the best combat in the series and best tactics/gambits system in any game i've played
Started playing Witcher 2 on PC recently. Graphics are decent, especially for when it came out, but the gameplay is rough and the PC port if a buggy mess. Had to reload a save several times because Geralt just gets stuck somewhere
Age of Decadence. This thing is unfiniahed, ugly, clinky, fighting is boring. But damn, it's one of the best RPGs with a huge emphasis on R I've ever played
Original Final Fantasy for the NES. Half of the damn spells didn't even work. There was a bug that made your ability to run roll your characters defense instead of their agility, so the damn fighter could run more often than the thief, whose only class benefit was supposed to be run ability. None of the weapons that "did more damage against enemy type X" actually did more damage against enemy type X.
Great fucking game. It was the very picture of my childhood.
it's an amazing game, it sucks you in despite of the mid graphics and boring combat, but the whole experience is like having an amazing date and then in the middle of coitus your date says they need to go to the bathroom and you never see them again.
No More Room In Hell 2, Metal Gear Survive, Dead State: Reanimated, i could go on for days about various zombie game slop that i genuinely think is fantastic despite being objectively poorly made
Theres a game called legendary basic premise is u unlock pandoras box and fight mythological creatures. Your hand getd like mystical powers its gameplay basic, story alright, it has several game breaking bugs. Amazing game 10/10
My neighbor installed an emulator on my PC when I was a kid and I played Harvest Moon 64 to death, I saved up such a looooong ass time for the greenhouse, I was so happy when I finally got it and like 3 in game days later a storm swoops in and deletes my greenhouse, I have never cried more than in that moment, didn't touch the game for 6 months after that and only came back when I found out putting your dog in the greenhouse prevents it from getting deleted.
I didn’t know about the dog hack lol. The first time that happened I was so pissed but by the second year I was already rich so it didn’t matter that much if it got destroyed or not.
My poor pc struggling to get.... 15fps maybe, while slow walking in fog because the render distance was probably 20ft max....
Playing it with a powerful machine today, with the new open engine, you realize how tiny it was.... If you stand from a tall hill just outside of balmorra, you can see caldera 500ft away. Back in the days it felt like a whole day trip.
Minesweeper base game but goes way too ham, and overly ambitiously fucked up the game in the process, but everyone still plays it because there's nothing else quite like it.
It's very simple, it offers variation but does not inspire it, both in gameplay and dialogue options. Its another case of you find the thing you like doing and everything else can shove it. And the game caps out at a certain level and doesn't even let you put points into anything else so you really are stuck with certain things.
Especially with dialogue. You would hope that the encounters just go differently, but you are instead just given the same options and you are sometimes locked out of some options i stead of just given new ones.
Still, what you are given adds up to an amazing once in a blue moon game.
Ds1 has absolute peak gameplay, which is more than just the combat. I read what you said about putting the combat in a different game, but that fails to recognize that the combat was designed around the game. Unironically ds1's combat is 10/10 and will always be 10/10 because it fits the rest of the game perfectly.
Also, the graphics are good. Sure technically they're not proficient, (in 2011 they were pretty high up there) but graphics are everything you see, from ui to frame rate to art style. If you play the ps360/ptde sure, the frame rate sucks, but the remastered version is absolutely above a 4/10.
As far as unfinished goes? This is a modern take i largely disagree with too. Aside from lost iselith, and the neto fight, the end of the game is mostly great.
Road Rash N64. Open world, funny and creative weapons, ramp off of cars or cows. You can sneak up on the npcs and very lightly tap them and they explode away from your bike which is hilarious. And the soundtrack is fun!
There are more bugs than the Brazilian parts of Amazon rain forest such as...
Uncapped reverse speed in certain vehicles by holding both brake/reverse and acceleration buttons at the same time,
Standard police cars occasionally patrol the city streets at Mach Fuck,
Reward vehicles for story progress sometimes not appearing in your garage at all seemingly randomly,
Late game vehicles such as Pagani Zonda being faster than what the game can compute, causing you to drop through the map in certain places,
In highway battle -mode the game can randomly think the CPU's behind you despite actually being ahead, causing it to rubberband up to Mach Fuck and losing by outdistancing you,
Civillian traffic pathfinding getting all messed up in certain locations, if you park your car and don't move for a little while,
At least on race layout where the CPU's jump up a crest and slam into an invisible wall at full speed because there's a 90 degree corner right after the mentioned crest,
In short, the whole game is a bunch of al dente spaghetti held together by three Hail Mary's in regard to code
The game also has some utterly baffling design choice such as...
Event markers in career mode free roam are so big and numerous that it's nearly impossible to see where you are going towards the end game,
The pursuit cooldown spot locations. Somehow the Police heli can find you from under the roof of a remote car wash, but can't find you under a bridge... which goes across an eight lane freeway... Legitimately the police station is a better hiding spot than half of the official cooldown locations,
CPU vehicle types appear only under specific circumstances for no reason like a car truck that appears just once per save file at the beginning of a single checkpoint race or Police K9's only appearing during specific pursuit missions,
Story bosses, aside from the first and last ones, all drive single tone hot pink cars for some reason. Honestly this could just as well be bug when trying to load the livery texture.
Also, the whole game world is just a baby's first romhack-esque kitbash of the OG Most Wanted map due to limited amount of development resources given to the project.
All this and more is exactly why I have a soft spot for this version of Undercover. It is the quintessential "so bad that it's good" -game.
Burger King Sneak King is at least worth 3 consecutive hours of entertainment. No more than that. It's a wonderful 3 hours though if you have a friend in the room with you. No friend no fun.
Assassin's creed unity. I used to hate it but these new ACs have given me a new apreciation for it as the last real assassin's creed.
I'm playing it now, ten years later. It's janky as shit and the writing is kind of all over the place but it's also beautiful and immersive. I'm having a good time
PUBG on release. I haven't played it in years, but on release, it was buggy, the mechanics were messy and it was incredibly ugly, but holy shit was it fun.
I actually platinumed it back on the PS3. None of the RTS sections were particularly hard (the AI couldn't deal with rushes) but just running around the world and doing missions was great.
It was made by Troika, a studio that went under because all of their games were buggy messes. It looks like shit, it has pretty much no combat mechanics whatsoever (playing it in real time is a mess), but it's so expansive and has an intricate and well-built world.
Just Cause 4, Story is bland, world is generally uninteresting compared to 2 and 3 but the physics and gmod sandbox feeling it has single handedly saves it
If you look through the jank and try anything other than the shitty vanilla scenario (Reforged Eden or Ad Astra) you'll find one of the best space games ever.
Gameplay boils down to mashing rightclick and hoping your enemy dies before you, Graphics (I adore them) are definitely aged, and it's buggy as shit. The game models glitch out if you play for more than an hour straight.
But god damn it, do I love that game. Bloodlines 2 is gonna be so ass in comparison
The show was regarded. Attempted to watch the first season so I would have something to talk about with a coworker. Almost finished the season and just couldn't anymore. How tf did people wait on baited breath for this to come out on cable? I'd rather watch paint dry
The number of times I cursed while playing it, but when you cleared an entire map with no one having a clue, the feeling would keep you going into the next level.

what got me into incremental games love that shit
schmeedloc@reddit
What other games would you recommend?
Advice2Anyone@reddit

I love new Vegas, I really do. My favorite fallout game by a large margin.
But 100% unmodded, the gameplay is like a 6 out of ten. It’s got a good skeleton, but it’s just clunky by modern standards.
TastyNuggets13@reddit
Redditos when the old game is old: 😡
Contingent_Alpha@reddit
I mean, four of my personal favorite games were released pre-2000, but go off man
Aluminum_Tarkus@reddit
Emilko62@reddit
I've never played new Vegas other than vanilla with dlc, sounds like a skill issue.
YourWorstFear53@reddit
I feel this. I call Skyrim an unplayable game without mods.
tinylobo@reddit
I always think I'm really lucky because I've done several playthroughs of NV on PC, the first being just a few months after release. And in all that time, I haven't had more than 10 crashes or game breaking bugs.
Also, always vanilla. I'm kinda iffy (and lazy) about mods in general.
tal124589@reddit
I cannot tell you how many times I've crashed right when the game starts, or when you go out into the world and all the DLC hits you at once, without mods I would not have been able to play for more than 5 seconds at a time
tinylobo@reddit
That's really insane to me. For the longest time, I really thought people were just memeing about the constant crashes until I started hearing from people like you.
Durragon@reddit
Clunky? Yes. But you add all the dlc on there and it becomes a big horrible mess of game breaking mechanics and skills that lead to a lot of fun.
Atleast there aren't as many boats in New Vegas that get you permastuck
arbiter12@reddit
If you mod it, it becomes ecstatic by modern standards.
https://vivanewvegas.moddinglinked.com/
Absolute hell to install manually but if you have wabbajack and/or nexus premium you'll be good in 20 minutes (1hours without premium coz you need to slick on the download link one by one, but it does the rest). Then add encounters mods, war mods and "start anywhere as anyone" mods, "level up faster" mods, and you can roleplay as basically anybody coherent in that setting. Soldier, prostitute, merchant, slave trader, explorer selling junk, hunter etc.
tal124589@reddit
I got incredibly lucky about 5-6 years ago? Premium forever was on sale for $50 and I didn't know if it would be worth it, but they got incredibly big, and I use it for my annual Skyrim modded playthrough I pick up once a year a lot
criticalt3@reddit
I think the post pic is accurate. 4/10 at best. The gameplay is truly woeful.
LyadhkhorStrategist@reddit
The combat isn't fun but the exploration, the RPG mechanics and Questing for sure are great.
evnacdc@reddit
Being someone who didn’t play it back in the day and doesn’t have the nostalgia. It’s an amazing game, but the gameplay and graphics made it so tough to get into. I probably started a new game and played for an hour or two like 4 or 5 times before I got hooked, but I’m so glad I did.
EddieFrits@reddit
New Vegas is the best fallout game I've played and I'd say one of the best RPGs ever made, but that gameplay is ass. Don't lie to yourself. The whole thing is clunky and glitchy and you feel like you might fly off the world at any point in time due to the physics engine and the combat is mid at best even for an rpg.
unknown_pigeon@reddit
I've played it some time ago and I found the gameplay completely fine? No mods, and I really enjoyed it. Barely ran into any bug, and a couple of crashes..
On the other hand, I was immediately baptized by the cars during my first two hours of FO4
arbiter12@reddit

tuhplol@reddit
Mid guns op melee gunplay itself restricts itself in bad ways ( eg. if your strength isn’t high enough for a weapon it’ll be super shaky) very rudimentary sneak mechanics busted movement engine (could be a pro depending on who you ask) granted, it’s all copy pasted from fo3 which means it’s either not their fault or a massive detriment but still for a 2012 game it’s kind of lacking, cod bo2 came out the same year
Ecstatic-Compote-595@reddit
it has good mechanics and the gameplay is fun, but it's not good. For some reason fallout 3 and vegas both felt way worse than oblivion did, way more clunky and unresponsive compared to oblivion, which for all its jank felt buttery smooth
SonTyp_OhneNamen@reddit
Matiwapo@reddit
Everything you said was valid until this point. NV has great voice acting and facial textures compared to the freak show that is oblivion. It's one of the major ways NV improved on earlier Bethesda games
arbiter12@reddit
I think UberDanger said it best, about the NPC. When you talk to a guy you don't know if he's the spearpoint of an ideology, with 5 lines of dialogue on repeat, or a fully sentient human, with more personality than most people you know.
SaintCambria@reddit
So what you're noticing is the knock-on effects of the 2008 crash. Studios had less access to capital, and we're generally more risk-averse around the time, so they went with safe bets (largely as an industry trend, obviously I'm speaking in generalities). Studios then saw how much cheaper and more profitable those were, so greenlit more sequels, resulting in... well the general shitty state that mass entertainment is in and trying to pull out of rn.
SentientDust@reddit
Well yeah, they carbon-copied it from Fallout 3 with a handful of top FO3 mods baked into the game
Price-x-Field@reddit
The gameplay is less smooth than most shooters from the 90’s

Interstate-8-@reddit
Undertale has 10/10 music which makes up for it
SonTyp_OhneNamen@reddit
You know what, i actually agree with that.
CH33S3_NUGG3T5@reddit
I'd say 7/10, or thereabouts. Sure, it's pixel art, but it does what it tries to do, and pixel art isn't that easy to make look good. For pixel art, it's perfectly decent.
It's not as if it's some poor attempt at 3d graphics, like the oblivion character models
RoJayJo@reddit
Less exaggeration, you could port it almost perfectly to a 32 bit console, with a lot more effort a 16 bit console but still- fucking amazing game for something with most of its sprites made in mspaint
Outrageous_Basis_997@reddit
I grew up with a Gameboy Advance running a bootleg cartridge full of NES games. And I spent 2019-2021 emulating GBA, GBC and NES games. I love that kinda graphics.
SonTyp_OhneNamen@reddit
Note that „i like this“ doesn’t equal „it’s good“. Undertale has its own unique style and with any more demanding graphics it would probably not have reached its global hype (probably it would still be in development today, seeing how it was made), it’s one of the core features making it unique, but objectively it‘s black and white pixel drawings a fifth grader could make in MS paint. That’s not 10/10 graphics.
Outrageous_Basis_997@reddit
Fair, I just have a soft spot for pixel graphics.

I desperately miss being able to hide in closets. I think hiding in the closet and hoping the ghost goes away while your friends are outside wondering if you got got is so much better than the current "Maybe they won't find me if I'm behind the couch?"

Kitzu-de@reddit
Check out Thrive by Revolutionary Games Studio. It's a free open source game that is still heavily in development but it targets to become what Spores original concept was and what Spore never became.
beefycheesyglory@reddit
Best answer imo. Literally a sequence of minigames where you can create a creature and "evolve" it into the space age. Even for 2008 it was lackluster and fell way behind what it was promised to be, still an fun game.
yumstheman@reddit
I wouldn’t say Spore is considered an “amazing game” by the internet. Sure, it’s achieved a kinda meme status, but I remember it being pretty panned when it got released because it was one of first big examples of AAA games way over promising and massively underdelivering. It was just as bad if not worse than what happened with No Man’s Sky.

WintersbaneGDX@reddit
My point was more that they're both extremely simplistic. Among Us delivers an incredible experience through a game that has very little in the way of coding or complex visuals (as compared to, say, a triple A release). My comment is intended as a huge compliment: Among Us has had incredible success without need for those things.

I finished the first game last week, emulated it on pc. Graphics and missions were meh, but the gameplay mechanics were amazing
TheBlueEmerald1@reddit
I say this with utmost respect, Cyberpunk.

ILoveWesternBlot@reddit
nah DS1 gameplay is still peak

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.
