I got one from an air force guy named Major Kong…
Survival kit
Survival kit contents check. In them you'll find:
Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.

If you have stockings and lipstick packed for Vegas I feel like we may have different definitions of a good weekend.

Would I be guessing correctly you have not seen the movie, “Dr. Strangelove”?
Material-Economics71@reddit (OP)
Correct, I just looked it up and apparently I have to watch it now.
TxAggieMike@reddit
And how about “Airplane!” ??
Material-Economics71@reddit (OP)
Of course. I feel like that's obligatory.

All great recommendations here. Question for the group: what do you all put it in? Milk crate? Plastic organizer off Amazon?
Material-Economics71@reddit (OP)
I bought some oversize milk crates to use. I use them for spray paint etc. They have many different colors.

Thanks, I Love the list. Gummy bears? Just for snacking?

Also a blood sugar thing. I don't have diabetes but I've gotten light headed from time to time. It's something easy to have on hand in case you need some quick energy.

Consider one of those battery-powered tire compressors. Super nice to have handy when you need a little top-off.
Material-Economics71@reddit (OP)
That a great idea. I keep one in the hangar but I'll clearly need it when I'm not there.

But not LiON batteries out of reach in the cargo hold. There was a guy who had a battery fire in a Mooney not too long ago.

I might just do one of those cigarette lighter plug in ones. Batteries are great but they're inevitably dead when I need them.

Fuel strainer.
Small tool kit.
Two quarts of engine oil.
Small container of hydaulic fluid (it is a Navion after all).
Some gojo wipes (I'm a grease magnet).
Three short pieces of rope (airport tiedown ropes frequently come up short given where the Navion wing tiedowns are).
A spare rudder pedal.
The canopy cover.
A binder with all the official documents that are required to be in the plane: W&B, the limitations book, a half a dozen flight supplements to the non-existent flight manual, and the pilot guides to the IFR GPS and Autopilot.
I usually keep the bottle of window cleaner and microfiber towels inside the cockpit as I gotta be standing inside to wash the windows anyway.

Spare rudder pedal? Do tell... that sounds like a "learned from experience" item
flyingron@reddit
My plane has an STC to add toe brakes (normal Navion has a hand brake like an old Cherokee). The pedals are literally, a Cessna 172 pedal. The problem is that it often takes a lot of force to keep the Navion from rolling during runups and if you get a little overzealous, you can break the tang that the brake cylinder attaches to. After breaking a couple, I went to the aviation junk yard and grabbed four spares. I'm still on the first one of these.

Add in a mirror
It’s one of the most important survival tools to have if you crash
Material-Economics71@reddit (OP)
Good idea. I should add a little more emergency equipment. But I've hesitated since I'll be getting the heck out of dodge should an emergency happen. I read someone said if its not strapped to you its camping equipment not survival equipment.
DefundTheHOA_@reddit
If you crash somewhere remote, where do you expect to go?
A little mirror is a way to signal to other people that you want to be found
Material-Economics71@reddit (OP)
Oh no I understand and agree. I guess I just picture crash, exist, plane burns to nothing type of scenario. But I agree I need to put more survival stuff.
