Commando! Don't think I've ever actually seen one. This is a really neat picture! Thank you for the share. It's like seeing MD-11 and DC-10's. Just rare birds.

Even in Anchorage it’s getting harder to see DC10s and MD11s now…
pizzlepullerofkberg@reddit
oh right with all the UPS and FedEx flights that go through there. every time I see an MD-11 I take a picture.
I remember for a brief time in the 90s and early 2000s youd still see an occasional TriStar and DC-10

A Tristar would be cool! Anchorage gets kinda spoiled with different types, but even up here the phaseout is becoming more evident.

Come to Louisville, KY..you can see MD-11's all day. :)

C-46 Commando, nice

1939 model too I think. I’ve seen it take off before, it just slowly pushes the earth away to achieve lift

How do you get spare parts for that thing?
7stroke@reddit
Depends on the part (and what you’re willing to ‘upgrade’) of course, but the answer often is, “You already own a machine shop”

Thanks. I don't really know a lot about aviation, but are you allowed to just produce spare parts on your own lathe or is that different for such old-timers compared to passenger jets?

Beautiful C46R. R2800-97’s. Jim did a beautiful job polishing the cowling and props
