ULPT request: landlord ignoring repair requests and cockroach infestation

My landlord left a kitchen water leak for a whole month, finally fixed it last week, kitchen was unusable and they offered no rent back. Now we have a cockroach infestation and they are ignoring our requests and emails. How can I light a fire under their feet? Call code compliance? I can’t afford to move or break the lease right now.

I would reach out to your local housing authority and/or code compliance office, but would also look into if there’s a tenants rights association that offers free consultation or legal services in your area. Sometimes these groups will be able to help get you back rent or damages and be able to assist if there is retaliation for going to code enforcement.

Call code compliance. If they’re neglecting issues this badly they are for sure in violation of a ton of other codes all over the unit and complex. They will get the pants fined off of them if you’ve been documenting these reports and they haven’t acted on them in a reasonable timeframe.
