Super cool! I would only have 8 planes from 0 - 8,xxx hours or whatever I’m at now.
galloping_skeptic@reddit
"Base to line, the Gulfstream in the back corner needs to be pulled online and fueled for departure in 30 minutes."
DOG_herpes@reddit
No bike?
rickythepilot@reddit
There's a computer program that I forget the name of that did this very thing. I worked for an FBO that bought the software to figure out how many jets we could fit. A company called Dayjet started an air taxi service. They were going to fly dozens of Eclipse light twin jets and base then out of our facility in BCT.
wighty@reddit
You certainly have a type, don't you?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
I’m biased, but I like what I like.
BugHistorical3@reddit
That is both beautiful and impressive.
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
One of the things I enjoy doing on layovers is aviation illustration and I've had the idea for a while to take the top down dimension drawings for each airplane I've worked with to this point in my career, and make a scale drawing of them all put together in a hangar format. I think it came out pretty cool, and I included a Suburban and 2 seated people for scale.
What would be in your hangar to this point?
727Super27@reddit
Super cool illustration and fun idea. Would make a great CNC cutout for the office wall! Nice change from the 500 scale models we all invariably have. Bet you could find someone on Etsy to do it.
Reminds me of my young FBO days where the boss goes “hey the 172 owner is gonna be here in 8 minutes and he wants to do some pattern work, so pull those 12 jets out of the way so he can put .5 on the Hobbs and not buy any gas.” Ah good times.
LaddieNowAddie@reddit
I used to do that with my CTsw lol. But I would fly for a couple of hours at least and buy gas. I miss that thing.
Icy-Village4742@reddit
Never put the 172 in the back it’s always the 1st needing to be moved again.
WorkingOnPPL@reddit
Looks like the ramp at Teterboro. Very cool.
busting_bravo@reddit
Or OMA during a Berkshire Hathaway meeting
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
That was the inspiration.
thisadviceisworthles@reddit
I looks good, but that hangar needs a tailwheel (and maybe a glider)
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
My dad is in the process of restoring an L-19 Bird Dog that I'll get to fly at some point, so I'll get a tailwheel endorsement then. We'll see if a glider ever happens 😅
elkab0ng@reddit
Very cool :) mine would be limited to slightly shabby pa-140/160/180, a couple Cessnas, and one Boeing*.
*ok, it was a Stearman, but still, it’s a cool entry in the logbook!
rasta-warrior@reddit
Those airplanes look clean man, have you thought about making stickers?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
I haven’t. I’m not familiar enough with IP laws and plagiarism etc. to venture into making this a moneymaking scheme. Tracing and adding detail to blueprints for personal use is one thing, turning around and selling them seems like a good way to open myself up to liability somehow. I don’t think I’ve done enough to differentiate these from their source images to call it personal albeit derivative art to get around those problems. But maybe I’ll look into it if there’s a huge market that I’ve stumbled upon. I doubt that’ll be the case but who knows.
Gutter_Snoop@reddit
You flew a Suburban? Cool.
windjetman62@reddit
Are you part 91/135 (Corporate)? Sorry if I got it wrong
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
I am. I’ve spent my career in 135/91K/91. It’s not for everyone but I’ve enjoyed it thus far. Still a long way to go to retirement, but I won’t leave my current employer willingly. I’m lucky enough to have one of the fabled unicorns.
kerbalmaster98@reddit
Can somebody bring the truck outside please ? Sure thing boss....I just need to get out 8 planes to do so, it might take a bit 😅
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
My imaginary hangar has a garage door right next to the nose of the G700, obviously.
frisbee_wafflesnatch@reddit
You’ve only ever driven ONE car?
GPW_nsx@reddit
Up the Chels!
How’d you like flying the PC-12? That’s one bird Ive wanted to fly for a while but haven’t had the opportunity yet
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
KTBFFH
vyqz@reddit
I'm going to ask the stupid question. most of those look like smaller jets, I'm assuming you have more than enough hours to apply to a large or jumbo operation. are you just happy where you're at?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
Not a stupid question. I am quite happy where I am, and I could go to a traditional airline if I wanted. Not for me and my family.
ZappBrannigansLaw@reddit
Wait, let me post an image of my aviation career...

My eyes immediately zeroed in on The Ten. Love that thing.
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
First time I'd ever gone that fast or high. Ton of respect for the X, it was truly groundbreaking during it's time.
LaserRanger_McStebb@reddit
Bugsmasher yokel here... what is "The Ten"/"X"?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
Cessna Citation CE750. Fastest business jet in the world when it was certified. Has traded the title with a couple of Gulfstreams and I think a Global or two over the years, but it was the BAMF business jet to have in the late 1990s / early 2000s.
Sad-Improvement-2031@reddit
Its my dream career type rating. Id jump on any opportunity to fly one rn
Cdraw51@reddit
How long did all that take you?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
It really comes down to glorified tracing (I have zero actual artistic talent, but I can trace with the best of them). Trying to find the information of dimensions in various text resources and then trying to figure out the scale and go from there. Remembering things like were spoilers on top of flaps or in front of them, which flight controls had trim tabs, etc. A lot of the source images are very low res and low detail, so I tried to add as much as I could remember. Anywhere from 15-90 minutes per airplane, trying to figure out scale, how much detail I could include before it gets lost or muddied, etc.
As to career length I've been flying since the mid-90s with family but professionally only since 2011. I've worked hard but mainly Ive been very lucky to have some very good jobs during that time.
SnazzyStooge@reddit
Came here to ask where you found such high quality “blueprint” drawings, turns out you made them by hand! Good on ya — I seem to regularly look up this kind of thing and have such a hard time finding a good scale drawing.
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
They've been a point of frustration but once I realized that airplanes are generally symmetrical I cut down on my workflow time a lot. Still pretty labor intensive to create though.
Cdraw51@reddit
Wow, you've been busy on both fronts! It definitely looks impressive. I've just got the one Lear 45 type so far, I'll be adding more though haha
baby-shart@reddit
You flew a car? Damn, son.
SnazzyStooge@reddit
“If they could find a way to get a Suburban to space, my Jimmy could land it.”
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
Both the turbine suburban and a road-going one. I wanted something that someone could conceptualize the size of when thinking about the scale of everything else. Plus it's not uncommon for a Suburban/Yukon XL Denali/Escalade to be meeting most of these airplanes and I've certainly seen my fair share of them in hangars.
gigglypilot@reddit
What’s your turban suburban? To me it’s the Caravan thanks to one of my classmates.
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
I heard it from FSI as the Pilatus, but the caravan makes sense too.
blueElk_@reddit
I knew we had flying SUVs. I swore I saw one land in front of me at the McDonald's drive thru at 2am, with you pic we now have proof. Thanks!
baby-shart@reddit
I only fly single engine piston Toyotas, so what do I know.
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
There's still time, baby-shart. There's still time.
CavalrySavagery@reddit
You are a TOP G
Material-Economics71@reddit
You should offer this for purchase. I would totally buy this in either a sketch that I could make a plate or as a cutout plate. My father in law just retired as a pilot this would be an amazing gift.
mista__moore@reddit
Are those chairs for chair flying in the middle on the right? 😂
Oregon-Pilot@reddit
I think you forgot one.
Jk that’s an amazing skill you have, to be able to trace all that. Looks like you’ve had quite the career. I’m flying 121 now but corporate flying was a lottt more fun, and I miss the actual flying part of it a lot.
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
Thanks for the compliment. Yeah 121 has never appealed to me, but my brother has been there for a long time. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the scale once I start adding his types to it.
VanillaIceCinnaMon@reddit
How does the Falcon 2000 compare and would you ever go back to flying dassault?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
The 2000 Classic had some weird electrical considerations due to it only having a single battery which made it interesting. I don't have a ton of time in Falcons but it handled well from what I remember. In terms of leaving Gulfstream flying to go back? I'll never say never but it's unlikely at this point.
Kein-Deutsc@reddit
The PC12 is awesome. My favorite
majorkiwo@reddit
This guy flies.
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
I also tried to at least think about if it'd be feasible to get them all into a hangar in the current layout and I think it'd be possible taking into account the tail/wing heights. Load them in the following order: G700-G800-G550-G450-G600-EMB505-EMB550-G600-CE750-DA2000-CE500-PC12-C152-PA44-C172-PA28.
smack300@reddit
Damn you have flown all the new gulfstreams? Or you counting them as types?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
If we’re getting into the nitty gritty I’ve yet to fly our flight department’s 800 so this is more of what I’m able to/hopefully will fly by the end of the year. I’m working on making a family hangar layout for my Dad’s Christmas present that includes everything my dad, brother and nephew have all flown/are typed on as well.
smack300@reddit
Ah okay. Still impressive lineup of Gs.
Vihurah@reddit
Bro managed to call be poor a 1000 ways in 12 drawings
Thats impressive!
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
Don’t worry, I can’t afford anything pictured either, save the Suburban lol.
Scott2G@reddit
What have been your favorite & least favorite aircraft to fly?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
Favorite is hard to say, but I do absolutely adore the G550. Beautiful airframe that does everything well. And if I'm honest with myself I never enjoyed flying the Seminole. Flew it as a student and MEI and never again and I'm totally fine with that.
Cessnateur@reddit
What aspects of the G550 put it ahead of the G700 in your rankings?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
Familiarity, tbh. The symmetry flight deck products are all wonderful too, but I don’t have nearly the time or experience in them compared to the G550. I’ve done so many cool missions in that airplane and it never fails to impress me. I can’t say that the GVII/VIII won’t supplant it eventually but for now it still holds a special place to me.
LearningDumbThings@reddit
It’s a runway monster and it goes up and it goes far. You can take all of the gas out of just about anywhere, though I’m curious to learn how the 800 compares in that regard. A G700 wing and engines without dragging the extra bedroom around should make for a hell of a performer.
mass_marauder@reddit
Very cool idea and great execution

SecureAsk8297@reddit
That's a lot of training. Whew. Tired just looking at that.
554TangoAlpha@reddit
Favorite to fly for work? For fun?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
I get paid to have fun flying Gulfstreams at this point. With kids and life I've not flown anything smaller than a PC12 since ... 2015? Light piston aircraft are a ton of fun but if I got in one now without some help relearning how to fly them I think I'd kill myself.
jabbs72@reddit
Nah I thought your favorite was the CE560 😉?
Not_Maurice_Moss@reddit
Wow! That's a cool idea! Have an upvote
piersonpuppeteer1970@reddit
I definitely thought this was one of those hangar stacking software at first. Pretty great job keeping everything with the right amount of detail and scale! Nice career too
XxOpulentDreamsxX@reddit
How cool! The CE-500 and CE-750 are bucket list flying goals for me. What a plethora of aircraft you’ve enjoyed!!!
Mr_Muckle@reddit
172, PA28, B200, LR31a, CE500/550, CRJ700/900, HS125, DA2000, Be400, GIV, G450/550, and soon to be G600.
SecretPersonality178@reddit
What was it like in the PC-12 (most likely going to be my first “big boy” plane/job)?
DrHookEmMD@reddit (OP)
I still get to fly a PC12 on a semi-regular basis and I think it is a great airplane. It does what it's designed to do really well, and it is still docile enough that it's fairly forgiving. I tend to fly it in a way that doesn't take advantage of it's short-field or unimproved field performance characteristics, but I can see how well it would do in those scenarios. If you're going to an NG or NGX or PRO and don't have automation management background, that's going to be a much bigger hurdle for most than the flying of the airplane itself.
Th3Man0nTh3M00n@reddit
Multiple people have told me it handles like a 172, just a little faster.
FrankIsLoww@reddit
This is so sick!
