when i read the story of the Thunderscreech i didn’t think that it was as loud as they said

however this changed when i heard an A400 Atlas flying right over my head at 31k feet, man that atlas was fairly loud for a prop,i cant imagine how loud the thunderscreech was and how the test pilots were able to put up with it

prop sounds can carry in interesting ways.
the thunderscreech caused immediate hearing damage to people nearby, the A400 isn't that bad on the ground, there are much louder
for example, an AN-12 at the same altitude will be twice as loud as an A400
an MU-2 (despite being a tiny little twin engine aircraft) taxiing around on the ground is FAR louder than an A400.

MU-2 noise comes from the engines, not the props.

have you ever heard a P180? i swear you can hear it for minutes before its in sight and minutes after.
now imagine an aircraft that you can hear 25 minutes BEFORE you see it...

that’s crazy

This is, word for word, the same as a comment the same user left yesterday.
