I used this load in a 16” bolt gun to smoke a ground hog at 212 yards (thank you lrf). Can confirm it was an Armageddon situation for that varmint (it blew his face off). I have been very happy with underwood ammunition for 10mm, 300blk, 45-70 and 458 socom. Never had one fail to ignite.
Hipoop69@reddit
How does this ammo do as an accurate and long range option?
EquivalentOk1005@reddit
Good enough. Not spectacular, but a good balance of accuracy and performance. Farthest I shot it was 550.
DUCK_FACE_JONES@reddit
This good for home defense? 👀
accounts_baleeted@reddit
These and 110 vmax at 2000-2200fps don't fragment like they are intended to do at 3000+ from a 308.... They mushroom into a nice .5" slug that fucks hard.
Lots of folks use a 110 vmax or varmageddon for deer with the above results.
GuacIsExtra99cents@reddit
Are these g2g out of a suppressor?
accounts_baleeted@reddit
Should be. They hold up at 308 velocity.
If you have a 1:5 twist you might make sure that the jacket stays intact, but usually those are ultra short barrels with even less velocity.
GuacIsExtra99cents@reddit
I have a 1:7 10.5 . Ive only ever shot 200 and up but ill have to give these a shot and chrono
accounts_baleeted@reddit
You should be good. I handload the same bullet for my 1:7 9" and get about 2150-2200fps at near max loads. Never had an issue other than suppressed supers in a 300blk are pretty harsh relative to a 556, but its a 30cal, and twice as heavy of a bullet.
Bearloom@reddit
If you're defending against marmots, yes.
I don't know who would be using .300 Blackout for varmint hunting, though.
accounts_baleeted@reddit
110 varmint bullets from a blackout at ~2100 fps mushrooms into a nice .5" slug.
This stuff will absolutely fuck up a person, or deer.
wadech@reddit
What about the perfidious deer-people?
TheImpalerKing@reddit
Hornady's Holy X-Terminator line actually has a silver penetrator, but unless you can get those on sale they're insanely overpriced. Dipping the bullets in holy water gets pretty equivalent results as long as you keep the powder clean, for a fraction of the cost.
wadech@reddit
Noted.
AscendantJustice@reddit
From my research, one of the most recommended rounds for deer hunting with 300 blk is Barnes 110 gr VOR-TX so as long as this performs similarly, it'll probably be pretty decent for home defense.
Deeper__Thought@reddit
Barnes is a monolithic, solid copper projectile meant to expand and retain mass
This is a traditional copper jacketed polymer tip. These things will usually shed their jacket on impact and splinter out. Its a super thin jacket though, so not hugely damaging to larger targets.
Yes you can use vmax or varmageddon or whatever on two legged game, but its not nearly the legendary performance of the solid copper barnes- controlled reliable expansion and focused energy delivery
AscendantJustice@reddit
Yeah I looked into the details of the Nosler bullet a little more after I sent that and learned that it had a lead core. I guess my point was more about the grain weight and speed and not focusing on the "varmageddon" name. Thanks for the detailed explanation though. I'm glad I didn't buy any for deer season.

Those poor squirrels.
Yoboy923theflame@reddit
I guess this is rebranded nosler varmageddon. It’s gtg for home defense.
RavenRocksPrecision@reddit
It’s not rebranded. Underwood is a highly regarded loader and they’re just using a Nosler bullet in this load. They’re known for producing some great speciality ammo.
Yoboy923theflame@reddit
Gotcha thanks for letting me know
Yoboy923theflame@reddit
I wouldn’t
awesome_jackob123@reddit
I’m not familiar with these specific rounds but something tells me they would be.

223 Remington 50 & 55gr Nosler Ballistic Tip also the same price.
chuckisduck@reddit
with that 20% off, today I spent $450 on some 300 and 223, thanks!😅
mm1046256@reddit (OP)
I'm jealous, the code won't work for my account but it works for others 😔
SlateBlueSporting@reddit
Snagged some 55 gr .223 also.
The Underwood blemished 124 grain for $10/box is a helluva deal, too, but I’m good on JHPs at the moment.
GuacIsExtra99cents@reddit
Says I don’t qualify for the code, does anyone know the requirements?
chuckisduck@reddit
I think it may be wait a long time thing, just like hobo freight. I ordered about 6 months ago and qualify.
GuacIsExtra99cents@reddit
Thanks
chuckisduck@reddit
no, create a second account and wait on that one as well.
GuacIsExtra99cents@reddit
Genius idea actually thanks
somersp91@reddit
Those who don’t know, these are on level with Hornady V-Max
