Spirit pilots, where have you been hired/applied at recently?

Has it been challenging to find a new place to call home?
0621Hertz@reddit
Off people I personally know,
Global X, Breeze, PSA, Piedmont, NJ.
BetterAtAltitude@reddit
Yeesh, Global X? Man. I know the other option is unemployment, but yuck. Tailwinds, brothers.
Dependent-Place-4795@reddit
I hope Netjets is smart enough not to hire any of them. They will dip as soon as they can. It's also kind of ridiculous that many of us who work corporate / 135 already want to make NJ a career and these spirit guys comes in when their airline is about to go under. They were probably talking shit about NJ before they were furloughed.
skateboard_pilot@reddit
Heard f9 is gonna get nk through indigo.
More_Drummer_3933@reddit
Buddy of mine who was planning to spend the rest of his career at NK has an interview with a cAArier next week
Necessary_Topic_1656@reddit
Every FO I’ve flown with this month seems to have interviews lined up at United and American whether they’re on the Nov 1 furlough list or missed being on that list- it seems
And after telling me that they’ve got interviews all of the FOs have told me that the captains they fly with also have American and United interviews in September and October
EsquireRed@reddit
UAL is trying to hire them for sure right now.
Ok_Excitement725@reddit
True. Also heard of some showing up for interview with an attitude like the job is a guarantee that have got TBNTs at UA. Don't be those guys if you get an interview.
Joe_Littles@reddit
They’re hiring a very diverse cast from what I’ve seen. Spirit just has the highest share of major airline pilots applying to other jobs. Heck even my own new hire sim partner got the interview invite at sub-3000 TT and 0 TPIC. And we aren’t NK!
mfsp2025@reddit
Comments like this make me realize I need to put my apps in lol. I have 0 TPIC but 1000 part 121 turbine SIC and 2000 TT. Might be worth a shot.
Upgrading soon to start getting that sweet TPIC time.
someFAsarecrazy@reddit
My advice would be to apply now. UA is looking to hire a ton. Plenty of people have been hired with no TPIC even in 2025.
Joe_Littles@reddit
Any insight into what rough hour bracket is competitive?
ThatLooksRight@reddit
It's all over the map. You just never know. I've heard some with lots of hours not get in, and I've seen 25 year olds with barely anything get hired (recently, too....not just the 2022 insanity).
Less-Willingness3595@reddit
when you say barely anything, are we talking a narrowbody type with less than 1000 turbine hours? because yours truly is in that boat. also curious, do these people generally have 4 year degrees?
ThatLooksRight@reddit
I think yes to degrees. And generally spent some time at a regional (or equivalent), but not 5000 hours and multiple types.
Less-Willingness3595@reddit
thanks so much for the reply!
Joe_Littles@reddit
Hmm. Well good timing for my Friday meet and greet lol
someFAsarecrazy@reddit
I know people with 3000-4000hours and no TPIC that are getting their apps pulled.
There’s definitely people with a better handle on hiring news than me though
Joe_Littles@reddit
Yeah like mentioned elsewhere my own new hire sim partner got pulled at 2600 lol. Hopeful
mfsp2025@reddit
Just looked it up. I hit the minimums but don’t have an unrestricted yet. Guess it’s time to contact a DPE to get that removed
aypho@reddit
What’s competitive this week is different from next week. UA just had back to back classes of 70+ new hires the past two weeks.
Apply early. Apply often.
mfsp2025@reddit
Just contacted my FSDO to get my restriction removed so I can apply with an unrestricted ATP 👍 thank you for pushing me to do what I’ve been too lazy to do
DOUBLE_DOINKED@reddit
Dude, why would you not have your apps in unless you’re at your dream job? Just keep updating and the call will come.
Joe_Littles@reddit
You should’ve put your app in when you had the bare minimum qualifications..
thisistherubberduck@reddit
Spirit guy here. Applied last month, interview in a couple weeks. 4000TT no TPIC.
VanDenBroeck@reddit
As wingman for AF1?
Less-Willingness3595@reddit
I think us spirit guys have to be a little patient. especially with lower time. maybe if you don't have a degree, this would be a good time to work on one online while you build time at a regional. I have about 800 in the buss and 2300 total and NJ and gojet got back to me the day after i applied. im getting furloughed so maybe that will help open up some doors, but from my understanding i cannot use that to my advantage until it officially happens. i am totally okay going to a WO regional with the captain and longevity pay (actually more than what im currently making minus the 401k) and it'll just be a happy surprise if UAL or WN pulls my app.
shamrox22@reddit
Current NK FO here getting boot in November (if we even last until then). I’ve applied to every major, legacy, regional and cargo carrier in the United States and it’s been radio silence.
I know myself and a lot of other FOs are in a weird spot where regionals tell us we’re “overqualified” but we’re too low of time for the legacies.
2400 TT, 800 121, 4 year degree and 0 failures.
IM_REFUELING@reddit
Any of that TPIC? That might be what's got you in no-man's-land.
Difficult-While-7673@reddit
You’re not too low of time for the legacies. Anybody telling you that is trying to inflate their own ego. I fly with FOs with less time than you have.
triple111@reddit
Yeah they were hired back in the 22-23 madness at 500 turbine, doesn’t happen today
Difficult-While-7673@reddit
Then you’re getting the wrong info. Just flew a red eye with a guy hired in the last year. 0 TPIC, ~2200 TT, 737 type (avelo)
Less-Willingness3595@reddit
this gives me hope as a soon to be furloughed spirit FO with 800 hours in the bus and 2300 TT
Difficult-While-7673@reddit
Good luck brother. You guys don’t deserve what’s happening to you, and I hope some years down the road you find it was perhaps a blessing in disguise. Get your app in.
Hdjskdjkd82@reddit
They are out there and getting hired, but I think there is more to them than just low time. I know United for example loves to hire former interns with zero PIC, but if you’re coming from a regional where everyone’s resume looks like the… well they got to filter people out somehow…
Difficult-While-7673@reddit
Not that I’ve seen. In one case yes, former intern. In most cases no, just the usual civilian track with some small extracurriculars during college or regional.
sweller55@reddit
I’m a recruiter for a regional that has a contract. Happy to help you out in any way I can, shoot me a pm
No_The_White_Phone@reddit
Living in an age when you can get an 121 interview on reddit. We’ve come a long way!
Joe_Littles@reddit
F9? I know it’s not the most glamorous move but a job is a job and F9 is looking for Spirit guys.
80KnotsV1Rotate@reddit
AA and United for everyone I’ve talked to.
Not_Maurice_Moss@reddit
We're slowly starting to hire again at AA. I talked to a Check Pilot and he said Spirit pilots are high on the callback list. Good luck everyone.
554TangoAlpha@reddit
I know multiple guys coming to UA. LORs and meet a greets help you stand out, especially if lower time.
MyPilotInterview@reddit
My experience with helping Spirit guys - while they do seem to be getting lost in the application pool, as soon as they have a face to the application, the pilot community is helping out. There have been a lot of introduction and CJOs from these.
T0gaLOCK@reddit
F9 will take spirit guys. Its a fun time over here /s
