It’s not just truckers, there are many idiotic drivers who do this. As if passing them is a personal attack or something. They have to prove that you’re not faster than them.
years ago i was stuck behind a subaru outback that couldn't seem to keep a steady speed on a two lane road, eventually a passing section opened up and he got butthurt about it because then he magically found the ability to do 40 over the limit, although i could see he was struggling to keep up in the turns lol. after about 5 mins i think he finally realised that i couldn't care less about him and he backed off
few days ago a pedestrian went nuts and started yelling at me when i turned as he was leaving a crosswalk...there was enough room to drive an abrams next to him without running him over lol.
Sometimes I do this, It's not out of maliciousness or anything it's just that when I'm zoned out and a car tries to pass me I check my speed and I'm probably going slower than usual so I speed up
Why is it that some people only think of attempting their pass right at the point where the person already overtaking at a much higher rate of speed in the left lane has to hammer the brakes?
Only to then watch as they ever so slowly crawl around the car they were happily sitting behind for the last 8 miles?
Nah I use cruise control everywhere and the truckers will ride the hills in rural places pretty wild. They’ll be going 90+ down the hills and ≈50 going uphill. I’m sure there’s some aspect of engine limitations, but even engine braking alone would prevent them from going 90+ on these downhills.
they use the momentum on purpose and the truck cant get more than 60mph going up the hill and if they didn’t do 90 down they would be going 40 up the hill. trucks are so slow I cant believe anyone here is having any issues getting around them, maybe get a faster car first
I wasn’t debating the physics of why they do it. I know why. I’m just saying it’s definitely a thing, and it’s not something that cruise control alone will fix. That’s not a “get a faster car” issue, it’s an issue with the truckers slingshotting back and forth along the road while thinking they always have the right of way; even when they’re barreling down a hill in the right lane pushing 100 mph while some grandma is trying to cruise control the speed limit at 65.
What's really annoying is when a truck tries passing another truck and they end up blocking both lanes for miles. I'm assuming it's a speed regulator issue on the passing truck but the one being passed should just let off the gas so the lanes can clear sooner
And then they just refuse to even try to get over even though they can clearly see a line of 20+ cars stuck behind them. I honestly think they get a kick out of holding up traffic
People with limited/no education who want to make a lot of money. Sometimes they're educated, but they're usually immigrants where their degree doesn't actually help them at all in the US. Like, I knew a driver who was a lawyer in Brazil, but that shit literally means nothing to an employer if you're in a different country.
second anon is right, 95% of trucks on the road are locked to their max speed with cruise control. if you let them catch back up it's because you're not paying attention
Nah this is way more common among randos who love to speed up to get in the fast lane, pass then slow down from 205 over the limit to 10 under. Truckers tend to be consistent unless there is a large hill where the truck loaded down just can't go up quickly like crossing the Appalachia
My commute has me entering the highway at a spot that's every flat and straight and I can see ahead for close to 3 miles. It's the worst fucking feeling when you're about to make that turn and you can see in the distance multiple semis across several lanes and you just know the flow of traffic is going to be completely fucked from these fuckers acting like a retarded caravan blocking the entire highway.

Yes. This is why you just have to be faster than anyone else.

I got stuck behind a literal porche on a country road, then I finally over took him, and he proceeded to chimp out over it.

My favorite road scenario:
driving on highway behind a slower person
checks side mirror, the driver in the left lane is 1-2 car lengths behind
“Perfect, let me just put my blinker on and -“
left lane driver ferociously speeds up to block you
“Why are you like this…”
let them pass, then changes lanes safely
*left lane car, now In front of you, slows back down”
FUCKING SIGH

Yeah, ego chall. People are just children with a sense of authority.

It's probably been 12 hours since the trucker last murdered a hitchhiker, and he's getting the shakes.
Brussel_Rand@reddit
Murdered a hitchhiker, did a line, and banged a lot lizard. What else are truckers supposed to do to keep them sane?
