454 Casull Magazine

Prototype magazine for my long term hobby project. 454 Casull magazine using a D.Eagle magazine design for the base. The long term project is to build a semi-auto 454 Casull (ala Hellsing). I'll post updates as I very slowly make progress between working full time, family, and school. Leaning towards a fixed barrel, rotary bolt, gas operated system akin again to the Desert Eagle because that's probably the only way to bleed off enough/contain the pressure to realistically achieve such a pistol without it grenading in your hands.

hellsing shit. if someone can make a 50bmg pistol, then this can be one
echo202L@reddit
Go full send and make a .460 S&W version. 2.3" is a plenty small enough overall length for a handgun cartridge
Cautionzombie@reddit
I was about to ask if it came in semi auto then saw the sub I was in

Itβs perfect Walter.

An ar15 in 454 would be lit
Lu1zBeast@reddit (OP)
Thought about doing that as well, but you'd need an AR10 sized bolt and extension which would be hard to fit into an AR-15. Case head of the Casull is big
Imperium-Pirata@reddit
Use a 300 blackout bolt
Lu1zBeast@reddit (OP)
300 blackout bolt is the same bolt face and size as a 5.56 bolt. You'd need a 308 bolt with the bolt face opened up to .512
Katzchen12@reddit
Theres only one gun you should be trying to make right now.

What's that
Himalayanyomom@reddit
I so wish someone made a nice ass lever action in this. Its the same exact casing for 450 bushmaster basically
tastiefreeze@reddit
They do make 454 levers https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1123841252
Himalayanyomom@reddit
Oh fuck me. Exactly what I want. Is rossi quality?
TacTurtle@reddit
Rossi is very hit and miss.
They can either be fantastic, good with a bit of tuning / deburring, or a basket case (mis-cut crown, slanted rear sight dovetail, barrel not timed correctly so the extractor slot is not at top dead center, poor wood to receiver fit, etc.
Definitely detail inspect in person before purchasing.
Himalayanyomom@reddit
π¬ this daddy can't afford hit or miss. Bummer
tastiefreeze@reddit
If you order it, just inspect before taking possession and deny it if it comes in off. Also these were more premium models where I don't suspect problems would be present. Biggest issues I had in mine was some very mild burrs in the action
tastiefreeze@reddit
I love mine tbh. Some of them have some rougher machining inside them but it works out over time shooting them. Or you know you can just stone the action like I did.
Also for what it's worth, most people that hate on rossis don't own them
rugernut13@reddit
Oh man... That plus my Ruger Alaskan would be an absolutely wicked back woods loadout. And it's threaded. .454 through an osprey with some massive solids moving subsonic... Ooooooooo
Himalayanyomom@reddit
I already have a bushwacker 46 too....

Could always take some cues from the Wildey as well. The Deagle bolt may be a bit safer since the Wildey only has 2 locking lugs vs the 4 on the deagle but it looks like it uses 1/4" peice of hardened bar stock for the lugs. The gas system is little more user serviceable though, think it has 6 ports drilled into the barrel just shortly after the chamber with the piston going around the chamber and it's removable during disassembly.
Lu1zBeast@reddit (OP)
Wish I had a Wildey to reference, that's one of my grail guns
Quw10@reddit
If you want any up close pictures of specific parts or measurements let me know, about the only thing I won't touch is the firing mechanism (took it apart once and it wasn't fun).
Lu1zBeast@reddit (OP)
I just want to see how the bolt looks and how it fits in the slide, as well as the gas system components. Does the chamber also have holes in it to aid in extraction like I heard?
Quw10@reddit
So here is a tossed together album, one thing I got to mention was the slide doesn't really interact with the bolt save for that cam pin. If I forgot anything or if there is anything missing I can take more photos when j get off work tomorrow because it's not going back together tonight
Lu1zBeast@reddit (OP)
Thanks man I really appreciate that
Quw10@reddit
Yep no problem!
Quw10@reddit
The chamber on mine does not have any holes though I guess the gas ports could be mistaken for that, gimmie a few minutes and I can get you some pictures of the slide internals/bolt.
crafty_waffle@reddit
.460 S&W magnum or no balls
Lu1zBeast@reddit (OP)
.500 S&W magnum next if I'm successful with 454 π

Hellsing
Machine-It-Bro@reddit
Are you by chance a Hellsing ultimate enjoyer?
BoredCop@reddit
Interesting.
You going to make the gas system easily cleanable, or going for jacketed bullets only?
Lu1zBeast@reddit (OP)
I'll use jacketed bullets for the real thing, I just have dummies in the magazine which are all lead
BoredCop@reddit
Probably wise.
Rotating bolt can be done with a recoiling barrel, that's how the Barrett semi auto .50 BMG rifles work after all. But it's probably easier to go with gas and adjusting the gas port until it runs just right, than trying to balance the mass and spring ratios of a recoiling system.
Lu1zBeast@reddit (OP)
Yeah I've thought of that as well considered roller delay. Figuring the math for either would be well over my head and a lot more expensive to make lol.

Yes, just yes
