Storage Building Advice

Looking to build a storage building with pole barn attached for equipment. Should house my workshop and was going to add on section for prep storage and storing food. Rural South so HVAC would be needed. Any great ideas on the building I may have not considered?

I always thought an "oil change pit" for food & gear storage was a good unique approach - have the ground as a temp insulator and the "hide in plain sight" disguising feature >>> park equipment over the majority of the pit except for the small section with the pit door access .....

I've thought of this too. Glad I'm not the only one

Like this. Controlled environment on left and shop on right with wall in between.

guy near me laid down two 30’ storage containers (parallel, about 20’ apart) then built raftered peak roof over them. He put an overhead door at each end of shop so he can pull stuff through middle shop area. Basically he has the two containers, a 20x30 shop and also uses the tops of the containers for storage.

We put in a 24x40' pole barn with an additional 8' overhang along one of the 40' sides. It's primarily storage for all the tools, etc and serves as a space to work on stuff too.

Dedicated storage areas for any chemicals/fuels. Depending on your elevation and local climate, make considerations for drains to get storm water away from the structure. Emergency lighting. Consider some motion lights in case you’re carrying stuff in and out at night time. When your hands are full reach reaching for a light which can be a pain in the ass. When you’re running your wiring, also do ethernet cable for connecting to your Internet access point (YouTube for projects?) and POE cameras. Outside workshop can be an attractive target for burglars since it’s not part of the main house.
