See, this right here is what bothers me. Anyone who pays attention to history has seen this coming since at least the 2000s. Empires in decline have some pretty distinct features. I've been prepping for this for a long time, almost nothing the admin does surprises me.
What bothers me is that our country is being destroyed, our international reputation irreparably damaged, by the biggest fucking weenies on the planet. Like, they're such insecure losers and because of the nature of the modern internet everyone can see it.
That is what is just completely absurd to me. I grew up in the Deep South surrounded by southern baptists talking about the end times and the anti-Christ and all that. So for better or worse, as much as I’m not a practicing Christian by any means, I’ve always been skeptical of power being abused and worried about a cult of personality turning America into a totalitarian shit hole.
But NEVER, and I mean NEVER in my life did I think it would be these fuck ass losers.
I mean really guys? A reality TV star who shits his pants is what brings us down? And the absolute losers he associates with makes it worse.
I always thought it was gonna be some Brad Pitt looking war hero who quoted the Bible and put on a gentle kind face but was doing patriot act shit behind closed doors.
Never did I think it would be this Idiocracy like, never.
No amount of Albert Camus prepared me for this much absurdity.
It's so goddamn embarrassing that of all the evil men who've run for office in this country—the strongmen, the warhawks, the übermenschen—what takes us down is a reality TV host and a bunch of podcasters who are sad that women don't want to sleep with them after being told they're inferior. The obvious spineless yes-men. Your Bens Shapiro, your Teds Cruz, your Tims Poole, various flavor of loser every last one of them who 20 years ago would've been shoved into a locker. The alt-right podcasters who obviously desperately wanted to make it in Hollywood but were too uncreative. The obvious and blatant rejection of proven reality for "alternative facts."
Tbh, I would love for someone to explain to me how Trump has charisma. Like, he's been described as a charismatic leader and I've accepted that intellectually on evidence (eg the cult of personality), but on a personal level I really don't understand it. He's not good-looking, he's not eloquent or well-spoken, he's petty and unoriginal with horrific taste in interior decor, the epitome of "wealth doesn't buy class." He shits in a golden toilet but they think he gives a single solitary one of those shits about anyone whose net worth is less than eight figures? All I personally see is that he's rich and famous and, because of those facts and acting the way he does, he gives them permission to be their worst selves. An excuse rather than an inspiration. But he's not the first public figure or even politician to do that and it's not been this bad in decades. So please, genuinely, someone explain to me how exactly Trump has charisma because I really don't get it.
Part of it is he is an honest speaker that shoots from the hip. Now, I’m with you, anyone with two brain cells to rub together can tell that this is not deep conviction or being a divining rod for “capital T” truth but merely the speaking pattern on someone completely self involved who has never had to face consequences. But most people aren’t that perceptive and their lives suck and they want someone to give them an easy answer.
When I was a kid I always was like “dad why didn’t we just nuke Vietnam?” And god bless my father, but he would patiently explain that’s not how things work, there are a million factors at play that we cannot take lightly. I was a child I didn’t understand, those were the bad guys and we had gokus kamehameha/super mans laser beams/whatever good guy macguffin weapon I thought a nuclear bomb was. As I got older of course I realized the wisdom of my dad’s words and realized I was an absolute idiot.
Most people do not have this, they ask their dad/uncle/grand dad “why didn’t we just nuke Vietnam?” And they’re told “because of the pussies” or “that’s what I would’ve done” or “that’s a damn good question boy!” And they are never forced to question anything because the simple answer is all there is and the egg heads don’t have any balls or whatever.
He’s a poor man’s idea of a rich man, and weak man’s idea of strength tough guy. And he doesn’t hide it because he doesn’t care to. For some fucked up reason, this really resonates with people who want the world to be simple.
Right, like the cult-like following if Reagan makes sense in a superficial level. He wasn't bad looking, an argument could even be made that he was low- key husband, and he had fantastic speaking skills. Even Dubya had that "just one of the boys, could have a beer with" appeal. But Trump? Fucking Trump and his lousy band of loser men??! We were never a great country if that's who takes us down.
Media and fiction made us super vigilant to that, this is like the Revenge of the Sith but instead of becoming a master politician, the sith just kill brain cells until it works.
Major Pete is the textbook definition of a weak man embodying the things a weak man thinks a strong man looks like so that he can feel like he’s also strong.
end street and violent crime in Memphis [...] through the promotion and facilitation of hypervigilant policing, aggressive prosecution, complex investigations...
Complex investigations? They couldn't even successfully prosecute the dude who threw the subway sandwich, in D.C. lol
If they start in a red state and are super gentle and super respectful and don't cause too much of a scene, when they move to a blue city and do the opposite, the pundits can pretend like the blue city is exaggerating because look at Memphis.
I'm not saying they are only going to red states I'm saying it's easy to build a "I'm going against your will, to help you. I'm here as a benevolent force" when you move into territory that is friendly.
I grew up in tennessee. Memphis was almost officially forgotten as part of tennessee. You never heard about it from middle tennessee news, never heard a peep about it from government officials, never talked about in public. Its weird now that ive left, but it is not really seen as part of tennessee by Tennesseans at least in middle tennessee and east tennessee.
As bad as this is, the National guard most likely arent gonna do much. But remember, the normalization of military in the streets of everyday life is in itself the danger
Keep in mind, thatt is likely the plan for when this admin stations them at voting places nationwide in 2026.
So their useful idiots can normalize it, "You're really worried about the military being stationed at voting sites? Lmaoooo last time they just sat around and picked up garbage!"
Eh some mayors are awfully conservative even if they are labeled Democrats. You can tell when they remove social programs in exchange for austerity measures to fund police.
In a tight Georgia Governors race my current Governor, who was in charge of running the election he was running in, was able to tip the scales just by not sending power cords with the voting machines to polling places that were key to his opponent. That and closing a few of her important polling places and sending to few machines over all was enough to do it.
Thats what ICE is for. We can't have all these hordes of illegal immigrants casting illegal votes, so ICE will ensure total security for the FREE and FAIR election of President Trump for a third term.
They don't need the national guard at all polling places, only in majority blue areas.
I spent 20 years living in Atlanta and it was crazy how fucked up the voting was there. I lived in a majority Black neighborhood and when I'd vote there were always huge lines of people and it would take over an hour to vote. But when I lived in the suburbs, there were never lines and I'd be in and out in 5 minutes.
It's absolutely clear that the administration's goal is to eliminate mail-in voting and force physical voting, then gerrymander districts even further, provide fewer voting locations in majority Democrat areas, then have the NG show up to "protect" those same locations (aka, intimidate people).
Not all polling places, but critical polling places in critical districts. I'm in a solidly purple area; my county went red 49.77% to 49.33%. It's not a particularly critical area to my knowledge, but there are places that are that close which matter much more than mine and my state is a key electoral win.
I thought it predictable and inevitable if we reelected this guy that's why I did everything politically within my power as one person in one city to stop it. Did everyone forget last time? This is the same, just more organized and with more help. Last time he didn't expect to win. Half the shit happening now was publicly available as their plan and everyone said it wasn't real.
It was practically laid out step by step but people refused to believe it. This time they were organized, prepared, well funded. Last time he didn't even expect to win. This time they had an agenda and few obstacles in their path. I couldn't even get through to my own family members. Even the ones that said "trump is bad we need to get rid of him!" after Jan 6 were duped by "gas and grocery prices!" Kamala had a weird laugh and Walz was weird! Now we lay in the bed we made for ourselves. Good luck to everyone.
Really? Because I can't think of any other reason to have them at the voting polls. Any other reason one could think of would easily be handled by local law enforcement not the military.
so was the military occupation of US cities, the election of a felon and convicted rapist, the failure to produce documents related to a multinational pedo ring etc....
Besides the rest of the false comparisons here, military occupation was spoken about by Stephen Miller if I remember correctly. If they were stationing ICE at the poles to intimidate, that'd be a problem. I'm not sure national guard would keep people from voting any more than normal excuses do. To my knowledge they haven't spoken about national guard at the poles so I was curious about the fantasy. But logically, what would they do there? National guard isn't making arrests. If anything, they might keep it sane. I'm predicting much worse things at the poles.
Lol do you have a few screws loose or something? I'm saying there are much worse things than the national guard to worry about. They're still showing a bit of humanity, out of all groups. It's insane they're being sent into US cities and hopefully history looks at this as a crime, but so far they're picking up trash.
They are. You're just naming things that happened and saying if they happened, then this other thing that didn't, can. None of the things you mentioned came as any surprise.
Well, uneducated populace and proudly ignorant voters are why we're in this predicament. Curious, were you a prepper before this guy was elected for a second time? Did you not pay attention to anything in the lead up to this election?
Is the national guard "arresting people for voting for the wrong person" more outlandish than a famous con artist profiting off of his cult of a base in the latest crypto pump and dump? Yes, I would say absolutely fucking yes. What's wrong with you people 😂
Well the national guard isn't ICE. And so far, have they been used to aid ICE? I'd be more worried about anyone with a badge than the national guard at voting stations, at this point.
It's about perception. Also I don't think playing the "well so far " game with this administration is wise. They are great at taking advantage of a slippery slope. We are the frogs in the hot water not noticing the water is heating up.
You are doing the same thing as most other people on this thread, speculating about the political future in a way that's highly guided by your partisan bias. Because of the nature of being prepared for potentially catastrophic events (even unlikely ones) you could give this response to almost every thread and it would always be valid but useless and unhelpful in context.
Alright let's dive into that. In what way do you believe my partisan bias skews in saying that it's baseless speculation that the national guard will be used to police polling stations? Because of your "nature of being prepared for even unlikely events" you could speculate that aliens will used to halt the voting process and it wouldn't make it any more baseless or ridiculous. But, let's settle this.
Lmao if you read my reply as some sort of endorsement of the prediction you're illiterate.
Your alien argument here is also an extreme strawman fallacy. There are plenty of examples historically of military forces being deployed to election polls across many countries. We know the events leading up to those actions as well. Not sure why you'd act like the speculation is actually coming from nowhere unless you have a partisan bias towards one side.
Again, I don't think it's likely that anything happens. I'm pointing out you're on a preppers subreddit where the purpose is literally to do the thing you're upset about.
I never said it wasn't outlandish - it is. This entire sub is for speculating about outlandish shit and being prepared. It is also based on political bias IN EITHER DIRECTION OF THE SPECULATION because it's literally about a political action.
Direct speculation based off of current news. The nature of the prepping community is the speculation part. I'm seriously unsure of why you're continuing this conversation other than rage - no clue idea what you're aiming to accomplish here. This is a r/lostredditors worthy moment. What are you even doing in this sub fr
I'm continuing it or you are? Again, a hypocrite. Possibly a troll. There's no room for unfounded drama in intel as far as I'm concerned. Why are you on this sub? Actually, I don't care. Enjoy your fantasy.
You are going on a prepper sub telling people not to prep. I'm on here for the news and takes from the relevant audience, even if most are kinda silly and don't apply to the type of "prepping" I engage in.
I left a reply pointing out why your behavior is obviously silly which it seem many people got, and your illiterate ass continued the argument you're making to everyone else in the sub to me ever though that's not the point my initial response was making to you.
So like yeah I was being a jokester and have continued to poke fun at your illiterate ass because you're being silly in this thread because it's funny to me.
I'm sorry I'm not sure if you noticed I said that it's a difficult thing to search for considering he's just announced the occupation of your state. Did you miss that?
Anyway. Administrative processing to "arresting people for voting for the wrong person" is a gigantic leap.
I think you’re confusing my response with what others have responded to you. I merely refuted your assertion that they haven’t been used to aid ICE. They in fact have been used already before the EO and deployment of yesterday
Im not linking anything but if you just google “tennessee national guard ICE administrative duties” it’s the first article that pops up from 2 weeks ago - fox17 news out of Nashville
Doesn’t matter if they’re arresting anyone. Disruption itself would be enough. Voting is only for one day. They could set up a bunch of check points and slow people’s travel.
First of all, voting isn't only one day, more people should learn that. Early voting lasts a week in many places. Second, what kind of scale are we talking in this fantasy. Are their guard at all 100k polling stations across the US? Just in blue cities? What's happening in your fantasy? Tell me.
Buddy. He only needs to do it in select districts where he is about to lose congressional seats. What do you think him calling up red states to tell them to redistrict is all about? Why you think they’re practicing sending units all over the place, for crime?
Yeah that's exactly the problem, they've been defunding education for decades on purpose so that as many people are as uninformed and incapable of doing research/critical thinking as possible
No kidding. Add in economic insecurity, a few dozen guns per person, and an assload of anger with no one to answer or care, only the very people that are stealing from you redirecting that anger to your own neighbors and- why is there so much violence?!
They will do zero good but what they will do is intimidate voters. If they can force a sizable number of non republican voters to stay home they will have completed their mission.
People hardly vote as it is. A rain storm would be as effective. Those that do vote braved the chaos of 2020, they can stand on line while some 20 year olds in fatigues stand around bored.
I've watched a number of videos of Israeli settlers terrorizing Palestinians. If haven't seen any of the videos they're horrifying. It tends to be groups of young men, with guns, after drinking. They go into villages and home and destroy things and antagonize the locals. The other big part of the story is they're buddies w/ the Israeli Offensive Forces who nearby watching. In the movie I saw settlers stole a family generator, a young boy tried to stop them and the IOF came in and shot the boy paralyzing him.
We will vote for sure, but all it will take is for Trump to say the votes down count from California or New York or something because of illegals, and then what?
Im sorry but your comment sounds like its being critical of our Dear Leader's administration... please self report your comments to the proper authorities as you sound anti-fascist, which apparently is now going to be illegal.
To be clear, the administration is not admitting they ARE fascist, but if you speak against them you will be considered by them to be anti fascist...
(Id love to say this is sarcasm... but bondi literally announced this)
So far no one has been convicted for the fake elector scheme. The next president could win in a landslide, but fake electors will throw the election anyways.
I do question if he's planning to station national guard troops at voting places. And, if so, are these kids really going to try to stop people from voting? Or is it just supposed to intimidate enough people to not show up?
Not all polling places, but critical polling places in critical districts. I'm in a solidly purple area; my county went red 49.77% to 49.33%. It's not a particularly critical area to my knowledge, but there are places that are that close which matter much more than mine and my state is a key electoral win.
In order to fix a systemic crime issue, you need to fix the systems that jettison so many people into thinking they need to resort to a life of crime.
That means making housing affordable, it means guaranteeing healthcare to anyone who needs it, it means raising the minimum wage to one that people can survive off of, it means expanding and properly funding public education and food assistance.... I could go on.
Providing people with the resources they need to have a high quality of life is the best way to solve widespread crime. These things may not be as quick and easy as military occupation is, but they are worth doing if it means lowering crime rates while also preserving our freedoms.
Their jobs are at stake while being deployed, and they're not deployed long enough to qualify for any sort of benefits. They're being used like Trump uses most.
I don't believe that anymore. I use to believe that but after seeing how some really good people have changed over the past decade has really made me question things.
This isn’t necessarily aimed at anyone, just so people know what’s at stake here. I would like to point out that so far the National Guard has been sent to places where the governor did not agree to their deployment. Because the state hadn’t okayed it, the Guard had no arresting power.
Governor Bill Lee signed off on the Memphis deployment. If they choose, the Guard will absolutely have the power to make arrests here. They haven’t stated what the Guard’s role will be yet, but knowing Trump and Lee, as someone living in Memphis and being in one of their top hated demographics, I’m not holding my breath for a good outcome on this one.
The Right doesn't seem to really have much foresight in all of this. Any precedent they set can be used 15, 20 years down the line by the boogeyman left which they so often scream about.
Our local and state police forces have been increasingly militarized in tactics and equipment since the 60s and the war on drugs. They are essentially military now but with less training, oversight, accountability, and unclear rules of engagement.
This certainly feels like an acceleration though, further blurring the lines.
Okay but can we at least talk about what’s currently normal in the streets of Memphis currently? I don’t want the military having to patrol our cities but are we pretending Memphis isn’t a shit hole?
There is hereby established a Memphis Safe Task Force (Task Force), whose objective shall be to end street and violent crime in Memphis to the greatest possible extent through the promotion and facilitation of hypervigilant policing, aggressive prosecution, complex investigations, financial enforcement, and large-scale saturation of besieged neighborhoods with law enforcement personnel [...]
The Task Force shall report to me as necessary [...]
I could be wrong but deploying the national guard does not require the insurrection act, that’s why they’re doing it. They can occupy cities under the guise of a “national crime emergency” for 30 days at a time but district judges are ruling that his deployment and occupation of the national guard to LA was unconstitutional and illegal due to the tasks they were asked to do.
Not that anyone making any decisions in this administration has any law experience further than studying how it helps them expand power.
I could be wrong but deploying the national guard does not require the insurrection act,
You are, at least in this context. Look up Posse Comitatus. Only the USCG can enforce laws without invoking the insurrection act and their jurisdiction ends at the waterline.
They mention that it's gotta be in accordance with existing laws, that's its totally not illegal, and that it involves many actors and agencies with their own different powers anyways.
It doesn't make it legal, but I'm guessing it gives them tools to have a defence in Court if needed in the future.
d) The Task Force shall utilize the strategies and principles of Federal, State, and local law enforcement coordination developed and deployed pursuant to Executive [Orders 14252 and 14333] as appropriate and consistent with applicable law [...]
Sec. 4. General Provisions. This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.
The moment "Americans" put the project 2025 team in power, the rule of law ended. They aren't even trying to pretend this stuff is legal. SCROTUS just removes any injunction using the shadow docket, and will continue to eliminate voting rights, civil rights, and any reasonable opportunity for citizens to defend their rights. They already ruled that only the feds can bring suits for violations of voting rights laws, which means... there is nobody to defend voting rights. They ruled that when the government clearly violates the constitution, a judge can't stop them, only stop them from violating a single person's rights.
On the bright side, if Democrats ever get back in office, watch SCROTUS suddenly realize their error when blue states start banning guns and addressing school shootings after determining that kids being shot is not, in fact, a reasonable price to pay for nut jobs to have more killing toys.
I pray for all our national guard members who'll have to explain how all the copper was stolen out of the Humvee while they were in the gas station buying zyns.
Memphis had one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation. It's in the uppermost tier of most dangerous large cities. Establishing a task force to help fight crime is a good thing.
Look, I think any city with high rate of violent crime needs to take steps to reduce it. (I guess Baltimore, Detroit, and St. Louis are up there too).
But I don't feel that's the job of the federal govt or the natl guard and I like keeping military and police separate.
You want to fix crime I say start with addressing poverty. But a lot of people just want to blame skin color / don't want to stop robbing peons like us to pad the pockets of the billionaires. Whatever I don't need to go into a whole rant today.
I don't disagree that poverty is a factor. What I'm reading in this post on the Whitehouse page is that they're establishing a task force. It's not using the military to do the actual law enforcement. The Tennessee Republican governor doesn't have a problem with it, only the Democrat mayor.
Republicans are sending the national guard to only democratic cities. Instead of actually putting forth any policy to change things for the better they're wasting tax payer money and wasting these national guards time.
Also while they ruin the economy and grocery prices are sky rocketing they seem to just be worried about making things worse.
Any who supports them like you are, are complete buffoons.
It was the military in Washington. It was the military in Portland. It was the military in LA. Yet, this time, it isn't the military that the literal "department of war" is appointing?
Stop taking what this administration does as fact. They have constantly lied and manipulated data and even the public pages. It will 100% be military involvement, just like every other occupation.
Everyone Trump is sending to Memphis is going to be used for coordination and support. The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits them from being used as law enforcement. Trump used an "emergency" declaration to send military to California, and a judge ruled it unlawful, but it's being appealed. He also declared a "crime emergency" to use the military in DC for 30 days, which are now all withdrawn. Dont give Trump more perceived power than he already has. He loves it.
Even if elections go how they are supposed to go, there is no going back to what was once normal. No one knows for certain what is going to happen. Though I will admit it's not looking good right now, things can change.
National Guard in the streets is disturbing but we've had military standing around at the entrance to Pennsylvania Station in New York ever since 9/11. It's not new. It's been going on for years.
It is an occupation, this should be impeachable, but I am still going to laugh my ass off at the photos of national guardsmen picking up trash and scrubbing graffiti in the touristy parts of Memphis, and can’t wait for the governor to quietly cancel the authorization once he realizes the federal government isn’t going to pay the guardsmen and if he keeps them activated the state has to pay them:
Well let's see Jeff, The republicans are going for the bold, "We will bankrupt ourselves dry by allowing ourselves to be occupied" while still expecting democratic blue states to bail them out if shit hits the fan.
It depends on how the orders are cut. If they were activated by the federal government under Title 10, then the federal government will pay. Not sure that’s the case here though. If Trump pressured the governor to call them as a state emergency, then that would be on the state. I’m looking forward to someone sharing those details.
A lot of American's don't realize we have had a domestic occupation in the form of our local police station for a while now. The police stopped representing the interests of the people a long time ago. If your white, male and somewhat affluent which I'd imagine most on this sub are you've probably had very good experiences w/ the cops but now as the tables turn more people will wake up.
I am not white, got called a racist cause I told a white cop I was scared of this angry white man that attacked my wife. She fought back, and he peed himself a little. It's funny looking back on it, but cops fucked up.
Damn they really saw people facetiously saying “why don’t you target a city with an actual crime problem, like Memphis, instead” and took it literally.
Those crazy conspiracy theorists who were on YouTube during the Obama presidency must be absolutely fuming that all of their predictions of soldiers in the streets of America has come true…
The Left has been in control of Memphis politics since the 80s. But here we are. Your leaders have failed you and no amount of cope changes the facts: the DNC is a cancer to this country that does nothing but take your money for their own individual power and agendas. They want these cities to look and behave like this and will keep promising change every election cycle that ultimately results in no change to the status quo. Wake up! You’ve been played.
This is what happens when you combine a lack of education, religion, and social stress...you get extremist governments and a dumb population getting behind 'daddy beating up the bad guys.' It is so dumb it hurts. At the very least, we can make fun of them relentlessly, comically 'plausible misinterpret' stupidly written instructions, gleefully show such 'awful' things such as 'basic math' and 'elementary logic' while poking holes in their irrational ideas, ideally speaking to them as if explaining particle physics to a toadstool.
The EO calls up not just the National Guard in Tennessee, but other states, as well. It also calls into service of this EO all federal agencies with weapons. You would be shocked to find out how many agencies that you would not expect to be armed are now armed to the teeth. The EO is so broad it's calling up game wardens.
Don't think for a minute the regime hasn't figured out how to fix the "not enough guardsmen" problem.
Hopefully nothing bad happens. A resulting riot in Memphis would be something. Would they bother with rubber bullets or just start shooting citizens dead? Not that rubber bullets are safe. Ask the parents of Victoria Snelgrove.
I doubt Cankles Clown will be safely voted out, this POS will hold wrinkle bruised hands on every GOP clown there is and tell him find me votes or pay the price with your life.
Does anyone else think Trump might be confusing Tourism with Terrorism? I know Memphis and Nashville are both Canadian tourism hotspots. Stay safe people.
Canadian flight bookings to the US were already down 70% in march year to year. Trust me that ship has sailed. Las Vegas mayor had a press conference last week begging Canadians to come back that they love Canadians
Soooooo honest question, why Memphis? It is fairly dangerous but so it St. Louis . If I was actually trying to stop crime (ignoring the fact these is a vehement destruction of states rights) , why not start where crime is actually worst?
Go back and read that release in FULL. Especially, 2(d).
This isn’t going to be like DC or LA…. This is about to be an entirely new level of bad. People do not comprehend what is about to happen. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
There’s absolutely no coincidence that Memphis, one of the “blackest” cities in America, is next. After what happened last week and the media rhetoric since..
Maximize Resources—This will be their “legal loophole” to try out the pedstapo in full force. Every agency listed on the TF, is a direct appointee of him. People with full access to everything. People who wrote P25. People who have openly called for camps, segregation, and the death of democracy.
Memphis is the trial run.
Sec. 2. Memphis Safe Task Force. (a) There is hereby established a Memphis Safe Task Force (Task Force), whose objective shall be to end street and violent crime in Memphis to the greatest possible extent through the promotion and facilitation of hypervigilant policing, aggressive prosecution, complex investigations, financial enforcement, and large-scale saturation of besieged neighborhoods with law enforcement personnel, and which shall coordinate closely with State officials in Tennessee and local officials in Memphis to share information, develop joint priorities, and MAXIMIZE RESOURCES to make Memphis safe and restore public order.
The Task Force shall be chaired by an individual selected and appointed by the Attorney General, who shall direct all Task Force functions and who shall coordinate with the Assistant to the President and Homeland Security Advisor. The Task Force shall also include representatives from the following executive departments and agencies (agencies), as designated by the head of the relevant agency:
(i) the Department of the Treasury;
(ii) the Department of War;
(iii) the Department of Justice;
(iv) the Department of Health and Human Services;

RedSunGo@reddit
MollySleeps@reddit
Right, like the cult-like following if Reagan makes sense in a superficial level. He wasn't bad looking, an argument could even be made that he was low- key husband, and he had fantastic speaking skills. Even Dubya had that "just one of the boys, could have a beer with" appeal. But Trump? Fucking Trump and his lousy band of loser men??! We were never a great country if that's who takes us down.

Keep in mind, thatt is likely the plan for when this admin stations them at voting places nationwide in 2026. So their useful idiots can normalize it, "You're really worried about the military being stationed at voting sites? Lmaoooo last time they just sat around and picked up garbage!"
Crafty-Jellyfish3765@reddit
this sounds scary but practically there's nowhere near enough active duty or national guard to station them at a fraction of polling places

mediocre_remnants@reddit
They don't need the national guard at all polling places, only in majority blue areas.
I spent 20 years living in Atlanta and it was crazy how fucked up the voting was there. I lived in a majority Black neighborhood and when I'd vote there were always huge lines of people and it would take over an hour to vote. But when I lived in the suburbs, there were never lines and I'd be in and out in 5 minutes.
It's absolutely clear that the administration's goal is to eliminate mail-in voting and force physical voting, then gerrymander districts even further, provide fewer voting locations in majority Democrat areas, then have the NG show up to "protect" those same locations (aka, intimidate people).
agent_flounder@reddit
You willing to bet my life on that? :)

I thought it predictable and inevitable if we reelected this guy that's why I did everything politically within my power as one person in one city to stop it. Did everyone forget last time? dickonajunebug@reddit

I knew this 2nd round would be bad but it’s honestly surprising how much has happened in so little time.
F0xtr0tUnif0rm@reddit
It was practically laid out step by step but people refused to believe it. This time they were organized, prepared, well funded. Last time he didn't even expect to win. This time they had an agenda and few obstacles in their path. I couldn't even get through to my own family members. Even the ones that said "trump is bad we need to get rid of him!" after Jan 6 were duped by "gas and grocery prices!" Kamala had a weird laugh and Walz was weird! Now we lay in the bed we made for ourselves. Good luck to everyone.
zyzyzyzy92@reddit
Really? Because I can't think of any other reason to have them at the voting polls. Any other reason one could think of would easily be handled by local law enforcement not the military.
F0xtr0tUnif0rm@reddit
Well, first of all, it's a made up scenario so far.
Newgeta@reddit
so was the military occupation of US cities, the election of a felon and convicted rapist, the failure to produce documents related to a multinational pedo ring etc....

F0xtr0tUnif0rm@reddit
Besides the rest of the false comparisons here, military occupation was spoken about by Stephen Miller if I remember correctly. If they were stationing ICE at the poles to intimidate, that'd be a problem. I'm not sure national guard would keep people from voting any more than normal excuses do. To my knowledge they haven't spoken about national guard at the poles so I was curious about the fantasy. But logically, what would they do there? National guard isn't making arrests. If anything, they might keep it sane. I'm predicting much worse things at the poles.

F0xtr0tUnif0rm@reddit
Alright let's dive into that. In what way do you believe my partisan bias skews in saying that it's baseless speculation that the national guard will be used to police polling stations? Because of your "nature of being prepared for even unlikely events" you could speculate that aliens will used to halt the voting process and it wouldn't make it any more baseless or ridiculous. But, let's settle this.
!Remindme Dec 2026
reallygoodcommenter@reddit
Lmao if you read my reply as some sort of endorsement of the prediction you're illiterate.
Your alien argument here is also an extreme strawman fallacy. There are plenty of examples historically of military forces being deployed to election polls across many countries. We know the events leading up to those actions as well. Not sure why you'd act like the speculation is actually coming from nowhere unless you have a partisan bias towards one side.
Again, I don't think it's likely that anything happens. I'm pointing out you're on a preppers subreddit where the purpose is literally to do the thing you're upset about.

Tell me.
money_me_please@reddit

zombieofthesuburbs@reddit
In order to fix a systemic crime issue, you need to fix the systems that jettison so many people into thinking they need to resort to a life of crime.
That means making housing affordable, it means guaranteeing healthcare to anyone who needs it, it means raising the minimum wage to one that people can survive off of, it means expanding and properly funding public education and food assistance.... I could go on.
Providing people with the resources they need to have a high quality of life is the best way to solve widespread crime. These things may not be as quick and easy as military occupation is, but they are worth doing if it means lowering crime rates while also preserving our freedoms.

How is this defended as legal? Any links? Curious
Defiant_Review1582@reddit
It’s not legal. There has been no triggering of the insurrection act
Sogster@reddit
I could be wrong but deploying the national guard does not require the insurrection act, that’s why they’re doing it. They can occupy cities under the guise of a “national crime emergency” for 30 days at a time but district judges are ruling that his deployment and occupation of the national guard to LA was unconstitutional and illegal due to the tasks they were asked to do.
Not that anyone making any decisions in this administration has any law experience further than studying how it helps them expand power.
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
You are, at least in this context. Look up Posse Comitatus. Only the USCG can enforce laws without invoking the insurrection act and their jurisdiction ends at the waterline.
ModernRobespierre@reddit
Right? Fuuuuuu.... these times are just....
Frites_Sauce_Fromage@reddit
They mention that it's gotta be in accordance with existing laws, that's its totally not illegal, and that it involves many actors and agencies with their own different powers anyways.
It doesn't make it legal, but I'm guessing it gives them tools to have a defence in Court if needed in the future.
ModernRobespierre@reddit
Thanks for that
ganjaccount@reddit

The_Vee_@reddit
Memphis had one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation. It's in the uppermost tier of most dangerous large cities. Establishing a task force to help fight crime is a good thing.
agent_flounder@reddit
Look, I think any city with high rate of violent crime needs to take steps to reduce it. (I guess Baltimore, Detroit, and St. Louis are up there too).
But I don't feel that's the job of the federal govt or the natl guard and I like keeping military and police separate.
You want to fix crime I say start with addressing poverty. But a lot of people just want to blame skin color / don't want to stop robbing peons like us to pad the pockets of the billionaires. Whatever I don't need to go into a whole rant today.
The_Vee_@reddit
I don't disagree that poverty is a factor. What I'm reading in this post on the Whitehouse page is that they're establishing a task force. It's not using the military to do the actual law enforcement. The Tennessee Republican governor doesn't have a problem with it, only the Democrat mayor.
Quick-Wing-6463@reddit
Republicans are sending the national guard to only democratic cities. Instead of actually putting forth any policy to change things for the better they're wasting tax payer money and wasting these national guards time.
Also while they ruin the economy and grocery prices are sky rocketing they seem to just be worried about making things worse.
Any who supports them like you are, are complete buffoons.
The_Vee_@reddit
Most big cities are Democratic. Buffoon.

On the list of ways to deal with crime, deploying the fucking military is at the BOTTOM of the list...
The_Vee_@reddit
The military is not going to act as law enforcement. They are only for support of local law enforcement. Posse Comitatus, people!
Beyou74@reddit
It absolutely shouldn't be the military.
The_Vee_@reddit
It's not. There's a task force being established from what I've read.
iamthewhatt@reddit
It was the military in Washington. It was the military in Portland. It was the military in LA. Yet, this time, it isn't the military that the literal "department of war" is appointing?
Stop taking what this administration does as fact. They have constantly lied and manipulated data and even the public pages. It will 100% be military involvement, just like every other occupation.
The_Vee_@reddit
Everyone Trump is sending to Memphis is going to be used for coordination and support. The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits them from being used as law enforcement. Trump used an "emergency" declaration to send military to California, and a judge ruled it unlawful, but it's being appealed. He also declared a "crime emergency" to use the military in DC for 30 days, which are now all withdrawn. Dont give Trump more perceived power than he already has. He loves it.

Excellent_Set_232@reddit
It is an occupation, this should be impeachable, but I am still going to laugh my ass off at the photos of national guardsmen picking up trash and scrubbing graffiti in the touristy parts of Memphis, and can’t wait for the governor to quietly cancel the authorization once he realizes the federal government isn’t going to pay the guardsmen and if he keeps them activated the state has to pay them:

It depends on how the orders are cut. If they were activated by the federal government under Title 10, then the federal government will pay. Not sure that’s the case here though. If Trump pressured the governor to call them as a state emergency, then that would be on the state. I’m looking forward to someone sharing those details.

The EO calls up not just the National Guard in Tennessee, but other states, as well. It also calls into service of this EO all federal agencies with weapons.
