Honestly I don't know if I want someone saying "I'm glad Kirk is dead and I hope all of the other Right Wing Nazis go next, here's a wishlist of targets" teaching my kids, who themselves may or may not be right wing. (People were actually saying that btw, it's how r/ thedeprogram got got)

When you're a teacher you're going to a working with a vulnerable population who needs to be able to trust you. How much would a right wing student be able to trust a teacher who implied they'd prefer to see kids like him dead? I'd compare it to a teacher who constantly talks about gender critical stuff online, would a trans kid want to talk to them and share their secrets?

Teachers in particular have a duty to be as nonpartisan as possible, the way that cops have to be held to a higher standard of the law. Pay them as much as cops get paid if that's what it takes but they shouldn't be saying insane partisan shit on their socials.

I don't agree with Trump using the government levers of power to punish people, that's explicitly against the first amendment and just another sign of how erratic and insane he's become since 2020 but I definitely understand teachers getting fired over Kirk celebration posts.

It's easy to say "of course not, when they clock out, that's the exact moment they are off the job and completely private citizens" but consider how many of these teachers use their position as a proof of authority as if their posting was them teaching kids in a classroom, despite half the time saying some dumb ass shit that should in fact get them fired. How many think that calling themselves "educator" means their social media posts have some sort of better standing.
