The procedure itself is nothing to worry about. It will essentially be the best nap of your life.
The prep is the rough part. Invest in some wetwipes or a bidet, and a few diapers just in case. Soldier through it. It's not pleasant, but it's important.
Even better is to go on a low fiber diet for a few days beforehand. For my last scope, I went to a liquid diet 2 days in advance. Yeah, I was starving like a mofo, but it made the visits to the throne room much shorter in duration. I was actually able to go to bed at a reasonable hour and get some sleep because the laxatives didn't have to push much out.
I did not eat any solid foods for 2 days. Jello and bouillon was the most solid food I ate. If you don't want to go that far, just go low residue/low fiber.
Okay, I'm vegan so I can try something along those lines. I love soup so maybe vegetable bouillon and juice pops? not red, I've been told, but like orange and grape and stuff?
Don’t leave the house. Don’t even go in the backyard. Putting more than one door or a set of stairs between you and the toilet is a mistake and you’ll crap your pants
This!!! They told me to not ingest anything after the frantic evacuation of my bowels and I was like a zombie after the procedure. Completely dehydrated in combination with an anesthesia is baaaad.
The liquid I had to drink was terrible. I gagged so much from that shit. Someone in the colonoscopy sub said to drink something fizzy after each sip and slosh it around some to try to get the filmy feeling out of your mouth and it helped, but that shit is still gross.
As for the diarrhea and fasting... I thought it was easy, but then again I've been on high dose metformin for a long time so I'm kind of used to diarrhea.
Same. Once they started the propofol I had a few seconds of feeling really loopy and then next thing I knew I was back in the room I started in waiting for the doctor to come give me my results.
It was not this exciting for me. Also? GOOD LUCK AND I HOPE THEY SEDATE YOU. THEY DID NOT SEDATE ME AND THE OSCOPY WAS QUICKLY ENDED AND CANCELLED AND ILL JUST DIE IF NEED BE.
Oh god.. I hit screening age and had my first routine one not too long ago.. I'm still traumatized. 1st jug I was like "hmm, not so bad, I don't see what the big deal is" 4th jug on the toilet I was crying for mercy trying not to vomit before running back to the toilet.
If you can next time ask for a different prep. There are several low volume preps available like Suprep (liquid) or Sutab (tablets). I went with the pills and it was so much easier than chugging jugs of liquid.
It's not so bad. But always sit when you're going to the bathroom. Don't be like..."Oh, I just have to pee" and think that's all that's gonna come out. Thankfully I'm a woman so I gotta sit anyway, but had some unexpected watery poops with it a few times
Proud of you! Yes, the prep isn’t great, but getting my colonoscopy done a few weeks ago may have saved my life.
I’m 46 and blew it off for one year as I’m not high risk and have no family history. However, my gastro found a large polyp with adenocarcinoma that was beginning to travel through the stalk. Luckily it had not yet gotten to any surrounding tissue, but if I had waited until I was 50, it may have been too late.
Wet-wipes are the cheat code. You're going to be wiping so much that even the softest quilted dry ply will feel like sandpaper after a couple hours. Good luck!
Great advice. As a 3-time veteran of the 'scope I had a little too much confidence and thought it would be OK to take my first Dulcolax tablet at the end of the work day and then drive home before starting the Gatorade prep.
Diverticulitis veteran here, dont trust any suspected fart untill the next day, getting ready for resection surgery soon as i get my chf under control. God speed
For real, peace of mind knowing that everything is good or catching stuff early is worth it. And the actual procedure is nothing. That meal after was epic.
I literally have a canvas print of this across from the toilet. The first bathroom visit for the colonoscopy prep it was sort of funny, by the end I knew that man’s pain.

Mine is Friday. I'm going very low fiber from now until my clear liquid day. Fingers crossed for a not so horrible prep!

Oh no! I downed like half a dozen Gatorade (not red) and that's what got me through.

Wet wipes were amazing. Just make sure not to flush! Keep a small trash can next to the toilet with a plastic bag in it.
Slow_Ad3662@reddit
A bidet is helpful, too
SaveusJebus@reddit
Yes. We got one a couple months before mine and I honestly didn't have any problems during prep other than the nasty liquid I had to drink.
Ippus_21@reddit
It's hilarious how these posts have become a theme in this sub, lol. Just got mine done a month or so ago.

If even one person is reminded they need to do this and it helps find an issue before it's a serious problem that's awesome.

You end up squirting lava towards the end. I suggest just doing that directly in the shower so you can get the lava off fastest.

I was more unnerved by the ‘clear liquids for 24 hours’ bit than the actual pooping.

Once you start the prep "meds"...DO NOT TRUST A FART.
That shith won't even knock at the back door, it busts thru like a battering ram.
Male or female, a dress or nightgown is your best bet. Sometimes there's not enough time to drop trow.
After it's done, fart and get that gas out.
Good luck! Enjoy a tasty meal afterwards.
