Update #7- Sallie Mae

Quick little update: I said I wouldn’t make a full update until next month but I’d thought I share a little update. So today I received a UPS envelope. UPS driver rang the door bell and left it on the porch. I opened it and it was a letter from Sallie Mae lol. I didn’t even know they sent letter via UPS. It was a 2 day shipping. These people are nuts. It basically said that my loans will default by the end of the month and that if I don’t pay in full me and anyone else on my loans will be sent over to an attorney. So I’m updating to let you guys know to expect random UPS letters from Sallie Mae if you have been no contact with them after non payment. Has anyone experience receiving UPS letters from Sallie Mae as a way to try to contact you?

Thanks for the update - following along on your journey is both scary and helpful. So thank you for allowing us in. That’s actually quite insane of Sallie Mae, that they went the UPS route and the fact that they’ve apparently done that to others. Stay strong, friend

You’re welcome! We are all in this together. It’s better to be prepared. Thanks for following along with my journey. Will have some updates soon!

Yes, they got really creative at one point. Once I even received a letter in a big pink envelope.

Wow. I guess I’ll be on the look out for that. I’m due to default in 4 days and I got an angry voicemail for the “account manager” saying that they will pursue legal actions and that I need to answer their phone call now lmao. I just deleted the message.

u/RepulsiveSea2174 Once I missed payments, I noticed my credit score got hit significantly and my credit card limits got reduced. What's your end goal, are you saving to settle for lower amount. I also heard a defaulted loan shows up during a background check when applying for jobs, is that so?
RepulsiveSea2174@reddit (OP)
Yes my credit dropped no biggie though, because it was always crap lol. I live with my parents. Everything I own is not in my name. My car is not in my name. I don’t have “real assests”. And I don’t have any credit cards. Also, my job that I have been having it before missed payments. So all of the “background checks” have already been done years prior. My end goal is to either reach SOL (statue of limitation) which is 4 years in my state or if they sue before 4 years I will have an attorney settle. I save the money I’d be giving sallie Mae each month. My brother opened an account for me in his name so that money goes there. So when the time comes I’ll either withdrawal for settlement or keep it once the whole ordeal is over. I also have no co signer. So if you’re serious about defaulting get an apartment/home/car/job etc before doing so or atleast don’t have it in your name.

They can’t send lawyers after everyone if we stay strong

THAT PART.

Exactly! I'm staying strong 100%. I haven’t had any contact with them since my last payment in April. I’m not giving them another cent.

They’re going to make every effort to get $ out of you before charging it off. They might start sending settlement offers soon, not sure how far along you are in the process. They definitely are crazy though. When I bought my house they called me immediately to see if I knew my neighbor (brand new neighbor!) bc he had defaulted on a loan and they wanted me to help them get in touch with him. Insane! I hadn’t even met the guy yet. They are truly psycho.

I am like 135 days past due. I’m not sure how long it takes to charge it off I’m guessing 180-200 days probably. But yes they are truly aggressive how they go about things. That is wild how they would even think you’d them info on your neighbors. They truly have no shame. I wonder how these settlement offers are going to start off with!
