I'm from UK and the NHS is on its knees with health care tourism.

We just cant afford it any more, I'm a big fan of the NHS, it saved my life but its going to go away if we dont start having some checks and balances.

I know people who get there rented accommodation paid for and everything else so they have not 1 concern about having to pay the next bill, and they work.on the side for uber eats or just eat for beer/drug money, its really pissing people off.

A lot of people shit on the American system, but the American system came from the fact that we were a country of constant immigration. A lot of hospitals started with religious backing and were (practically) free in the 1800s running on donations, but around the turn of the century with a population boom, and the modernization of medicine (Surgery and pharmacology) the cost to care for people exploded and the "care for the sick and needy" model became "Do what we can, but charge for premium care" which is, realistically what socialized healthcare countries do. If the NHS or Canadian Medicare was what it's touted to be there wouldn't be private healthcare in either of those countries, but there is because there will always be something better for those with the money to pay for it.
The current problem with American Healthcare isn't the structure, it's the greed. Insurance companies are completely out of control and because of that, hospitals inflate costs to balance the scales back in their favor. So what if the uninsured get hurt, if you spend 5 hours in the billing department maybe they'll give you that saline at cost instead of charge you 70 dollars for it. Then people are told by law they NEED to get insurance, so costs increase because companies know most people are going to pay them no matter what because Daddy government says so.

I know of one person that I’ve ever met that that was shot, self inflicted.

When Trump was asked this week what he could do as President to help unify the country in a moment like this, he said "I couldn't care less'.

Every other living President, both Democrat and Republican, condemned the assassination and called for unity. Basically the bare minimum.

Political violence isn't a new problem in American politics to be clear. I bet you can name three American assassins off the top of your head. What's new is the sitting President's complete indifference at keeping a lid on the problem. That should be a huge fucking wake up call to anyone that's serious about preventing a downward spiral of violence.

But I have seen leftist politicians demonize the right time and time again. Not that the right doesn't do it, but it feels so much more socially acceptable to fight against the right than the left, which begs the question why that is and why it's become such a problem.

So, sure, to call for unity is a good thing and every president should try to unify, not divide, their country. But what's the point of doing that if you're going to also condemn half the country? Not to mention that Trump himself almost got assassinated this year. Was there an attempt on either Biden or Harris? If so, I didn't hear about it.
