Commercial checkride in a month, stump me!

Got my commercial ride scheduled for mid September. Same DPE I’ve used for private and instrument so I know a little of what to expect but I’d like to cover any holes in my knowledge! He’s really big on scenario based questions and real life stuff like do you need insurance to fly? No? Would you? Also no, that’s a bad idea.

I actually had a question in mind that I’m expecting to hear. He gave me a XC to plan, and it’s a 6 hour trip in a 172. I scheduled a fuel stop. The W&B and he gave me was surprisingly within the limits of the airplane, which is suspicious. I’m expecting a scenario like on the day of the ride he tells me “oh hey last minute I have to bring 100 pounds of camera equipment, can you just throw it in the back?” Since that’s a kind of scenario I expect could happen to an employed commercial pilot. My thought would be to leave behind gas to make the extra load fit, but that would mean redoing the XC plan as well to replan the fuel stops, likely in front of him. Is there perhaps a better way to go about the extra weight?

Sounds like you’re on the correct path. Extra weight from 100lbs of gear. -You can decide to add less fuel and an extra stop along the route, meaning you will have to rewrite your flight plan in front of him, yes. -Or you can tell whomever that their 100lbs of gear cannot be placed on the plane for the flight. The DPE wants to see if you have the correct ADM and risk management skills.

On your preflight, you notice a broken stall horn. KOEL doesn't say anything, 91.205 doesn't require it. Can you fly?

Stall warning **horn** specifically isn’t required but there needs to be some kind of stall warning. The plane shaking and buffeting is enough to satisfy that requirement legally so I can fly the plane with a busted horn. Practically I’m not flying without a stall horn because it’s the best way to tell on the landing flare if I’m at too high of an Angle of Attack and I’m not comfortable without that warning.

It's doesn't reference a stall horn specifically, but it does address inoperative instruments and equipment installed in your aircraft. Stall horn would be considered equipment
