Can anyone explain for me this “Italian Brain Rot” thing our younger kids are coming home with?

I feel like I would’ve been beaten for my lunch money if I endulged in…whatever it is
Nottheadviceyaafter@reddit
I Havnt come across this with my early teens, but one word I did slay was slay. After hearing it over and over and over, I decided to slay the word by the only means I know how to...... to use it excessively...... I haven't heard slay now for 6 months as it has been slayed...........
Hypnot0ad@reddit
I’m doing this now with six SEVen
ennuiismymiddlename@reddit
Yeah what the hell is that all about? My 10 year old keeps saying it.
Hypnot0ad@reddit
It’s not really funny, just an inside joke I guess.

I work with a bunch of zoomers. I use their slang all the time so they won’t say it to me. I also use it around my daughter. So far, so good.
alesplin@reddit
I drop one every now and then just to see my kids twitch.
Or I’ll use one that’s out of date like yeet or sus.
I have a 13yo daughter and it legit triggers her. 😂
ElectroSpore@reddit
I am sure it makes as much sense to you as bagers, HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA or Numa Numa does to them.
Internet is full of a sorts of memes and brain rot that only certain generations dig.

C'mon Charlie, let's go to CANDY MOUNTAIN. Candy Mountain, Charlie. There will be a series of tubes there, not a truck you dump something on.

Add Shoes and I think this comment thread has all the best stuff...
drewbaccaAWD@reddit
OMG!!
burnafter3ading@reddit
I'm commenting so I can find this again after work when I get drunk.
CallidoraBlack@reddit
Except that humans actually made that stuff. Now it's AI slop.
ElderScarletBlossom@reddit
It's not "slop", it's kids being goofy and creative using the latest tech.
atampersandf@reddit
Dunno where the Italian part comes in, but yeah this brain rot thing is a thing.
Xennials-ModTeam@reddit
No insulting other generations, gatekeeping, generational superiority or making unnecessary complaints/rants.
DustedGorilla82@reddit
Sorry we’re on K Pop Demon Hunters over here
Upset-Breadfruit3774@reddit
I really like the songs, and I have no shame.
jadesix@reddit
I did the first few hundred times. And the remixes. My eldest can almost hit some of those high notes too. Almost...
_TheHalf-BloodPrince@reddit (OP)
Haha, yep
Mountain_Ladder5704@reddit
Younger? Mine is almost 16 and plays steal the brain rot it with his high school friends.
--Quartz--@reddit
I'm a gamer dad and have no bias against videogames, but that one is pure trash.
Everything about it is negative, luck/greed and/or aggressive to others, with the end goal of showing off (?) I guess.
Can't wait for it to fade away.
ennuiismymiddlename@reddit
I’m 45 and not ashamed to admit I play Roblox sometimes.
SurfNTurf1983@reddit
Can't explain it but I've banned it from our house. I just can't deal with our overstimulating it is. Absolutely does my fucking head in. I don't want it turning my kids heads to mush.
kmmccorm@reddit
Our parents were saying the same thing about something when we were the same age. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or whatever it may have been in a given year. They’ll be fine just like we are.
CallidoraBlack@reddit
They weren't though. And there are studies to back up how content for young children is intentionally overstimulating to get them hooked. This is often discussed about Cocomelon specifically..
--Quartz--@reddit
Surely the anthropomorphic teenage mutant turtles riding skates and eating pizza while fighting evil with martial arts were not trying to overstimulate us or commercially oriented, but rather were just artistic expression in a pure form.
CallidoraBlack@reddit
This is a bad faith argument. You put words in my mouth and ignored the actual point because you don't care. If you don't care, why are you talking about it?
SurfNTurf1983@reddit
It's Not the same at all. Not even close.
kmmccorm@reddit
Ok
shinobi-dragonninja@reddit
Ai generated images. They are hybrid of animal and objects/food. Characters examples here https://italianbrainrotcharacters.com
Not much story behind it. Videos and games are made using these characters
sailor_ixchel@reddit
I work at a public library and tweens leave these behind in the printers from time to time. Glad to finally know what on earth they are.
mistermatth@reddit
I am 40m with no kids so I’m just learning about Italian brain rot. But I’m ngl I kinda like the Chimpanzini Bananini
MisRandomness@reddit
What in the world have I just read?!? Omg I’m actually glad I’m not exposed to stupid stuff like this!

This one was the origin. I only know about it because there was an article about it in the NyT.
Enge712@reddit
Once middle aged people learn about it in the newspaper it won’t be cool very long
kmmccorm@reddit
Chimpanzini bananini
Basic-Biscotti-2375@reddit
Apparently it's popular among elementary school kids because mine plays that Steal a Brainrot online and they all get worked up over that shit lol
ennuiismymiddlename@reddit
Mine too. Obsessed.
Gadshill@reddit
"Italian brain rot" is a meme trend that perfectly captures Gen Z's humor, using bizarre, AI-generated content to create a post-ironic and surreal world.
The humor isn't just about finding the nonsense funny; it's also a self-aware commentary on how overstimulating internet content can "rot your brain."
jessendjames@reddit
Nice explanation, AI
Santos_L_Halper_II@reddit
I still don’t have any idea what the fuck you’re talking about.
8Deer-JaguarClaw@reddit
Same, lol. The explanation given somehow made less sense than the thing it was explaining.
Pankosmanko@reddit
It’s because he just regurgitated an AI summary
TheEschatonSucks@reddit
You regurgitated
Santos_L_Halper_II@reddit
I don’t think that’s why I don’t understand it.
thecheesecakemans@reddit
If Gen Z is creating it, it's Gen Alpha consuming it (elementary grade kids now) and it is annoying and weird as he!l.
Gen Alpha certainly doesn't get irony or surrealism......it's pure rubbish for them.
spookydookie@reddit
I asked my middle school kids what it was and they said it was stupid and they hate it. I’m I Must be doing something right lol.
bigturd55@reddit
Tune tune tune
andrewclarkson@reddit
Sounds like the latest goofy internet thing to me. Seems pretty harmless, especially given a lot of the other stuff that's out there.
YourGuyK@reddit
Even my kids can't explain it.
rels83@reddit
I was just discussing it today. Apparently it’s algorithmically generated ai content designed to get the most engagement from gen alpha. It’s absolutely nonsensical but they love it because a robot has curated it to appeal to them.
