What's your view on swearing in front of kids?

I'm probably quite old fashioned here and find it quite sad when adults swear in front of kids, but wondered what the general view was. I'm at a soft play area and a family next to me have a young child, about 3 or 4. One of the adults went to shake the kids hand and when he almost touched, he switched his hand to put the middle finger up to him in his face. Hilarious joke, I'm sure we all agree, but to a young child? I find it pretty sad to be honest. Similarly, at the park the other day, I was with my daughter and a man with his daughter (about 8) was dropping the 'F-bomb' every other word. I had to come home as I didn't want my daughter hearing it. Whenever I see a viral video of a kid and the punchline is them swearing, my heart sinks. Part of me thinks I'm overreacting, they're only words or actions, but I do think kids should retain some childish innocence for a while. What do people think? Am I just a grumpy old whatsit and should lighten up or should we set better examples to our kids (I suppose these aren't mutually exclusive).
