Just on a fundamental, historical level, Brits complaining about people from other countries moving there will never not be funny to me.
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
It’s actually not funny, and if you were a woman you would understand why it’s not funny.
anglenk@reddit
It is funny... And if you would look at it as a woman who sees the irony of the British not wanting people to move to their country regardless of gender you would understand.
Sincerely,
A woman from a country that the British moved to and took over for a period of time.
Familiar_Fact5063@reddit
And I bet your country is better today because of it.
cscaggs@reddit
Still not funny. I guess you think the drastic increase in rapes is funny though. Go figure.
anglenk@reddit
I guess you're so self absorbed that you can only see it all from one aspect instead of comparing it to the past
Hint: British people raped Native American woman after they moved there
But that didn't affect you, so it's not your radar.
Appropriate_Ad_1429@reddit
I think that's the Americans who live there now and they were Europeans. Did you vote for Trump? because he is Scottish, facts are facts 🇪🇺✌️😎
AntiBoATX@reddit
So an eye for an eye? Colonialism begets…. Invasion?
americend@reddit
Heartbreaking: international exporter of rape culture enraged when rape returns home. More on this at 11.
Fubar14235@reddit
Has it drastically increased because of asylum seekers though?
Appropriate_Ad_1429@reddit
Europeans 🇪🇺✌️😎
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
Sorry the western world is better for women. The culture of some countries does not respect or reflect that progress. What country are you from?
anglenk@reddit
You act like the rape of woman doesn't happen everywhere and as though immigration isn't the way of the world...
Either you have issues with xenophobia or you have a select view of history along with a select view of issues throughout the world. Look up how many countries Britain has invaded. Look up rate statistics. Look up women's rights through first world countries.
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
I think a woman living today would prefer to be in whatever country she is safest. I don’t know where xenophobia comes in, or history. Historically I feel the newer the religion, the worse it tends to be for women, but I could be wrong.
anglenk@reddit
I think women everywhere want women everywhere to be safe. I don't quite understand why focusing on gender is so important when considering immigration specifically since OC thought the irony of a historically immigrating and dominating country is being immigrated into and having a fit. The follow up comment, the one I replied to, made it about gender. As a woman, I still think the irony is funny.
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
So you don’t know why they don’t want immigration in London? You should probably read about it, it’s actually pretty horrific.
anglenk@reddit
I didn't say that. Thinking the irony is funny and understanding why immigration isn't wanted are not mutually exclusive. Similarly, as a woman, I can dislike the British women being victimized while not making everything about gender. Likewise, I am dislike that specific members of some belief systems feel as though one gender is less than without insulting that whole belief system and classing a whole group of immigrants based off of such.
The world isn't black and white. Comedy is sometimes the way to deal with the shit the world has bestowed upon itself. If the world followed more karmic teachings, than a lot of the hell seen wouldn't be happening. But, unfortunately, the world and the human race is doing exactly what it has always done and continues the cyclical habits.
Immigration is going to happen. It has happened since before religions were a thing. It has happened since before laws were in place.
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
Washing out countries with westernized cultures doesn’t make the world safer for women, or anyone. Making the whole world westernized would possibly make the world safer. Where would the Middle East be if it had been catholic instead of Islamic? I know what I say is problematic but it is something to think about. Sometimes I wish America had a state religion like Catholicism, because Christian nationalists freak me out.
anglenk@reddit
Too bad America has freedom of religion. No religion is better than any other, and believing that just shows exactly where you stand and your ignorance.
Just going to leave this here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_sexual_abuse_cases
anglenk@reddit
Also, assuming every immigrant is bad is erroneous and xenophobic. There are women and children trying to escape the hell they were born into... The same story pretty much anywhere immigration is occurring: unless invading as a military operation (much like seen in previous examples), the people immigrating are just trying to improve their life.
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
Sorry but at the end of the day, statistics are reality. Feel free to do what you want with your body, but as for me and my body. I don’t trust men. 150,000 people don’t either.
QHCprints@reddit
Oh honey, bless your bigot heart.
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
What exactly is the point you’re trying to make? There are places where rape is more prevalent, and the treatment of women is worse. I guess I’m not understanding, are you saying there are non western countries that treat women better? I’m happy to be educated about those countries.
anglenk@reddit
That the irony of such is laughable. That it is okay to find the irony laughable simply because historically, it was the other way around and the abuser is finally getting some abuse back.
Women in Britain have more rights than a vast majority of the world.
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
I’m not really following your point, I agree that women in Britain have more rights. I also think those rights should be protected. I don’t really understand or see the irony.
anglenk@reddit
You don't see the irony because you are only looking at RIGHT NOW and refuse to see the big picture called HISTORY.
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
What history specifically with which country? There’s not exactly an even thread through out every area of the world that Britain touched, every colony has a different outcome.
anglenk@reddit
India, Kenya, Australia, Ireland, Germany, Japan, Iraq.... All of those and many others.
A lot of colonies fought back and maintained independence, but some countries developed into something new.
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
And those countries have a different outcome, and culture surrounding the treatment of women’s bodies. I would argue that if countries became more westernized, the need for immigration would become unnecessary and the world as a whole would become safer.
anglenk@reddit
All those countries had their citizens raped when the British attempted to take them over
No-Cod9627@reddit
Oh do you not like it?
QHCprints@reddit
NOOOOOOO WE'RE THE COLONIZERS!!!
~Brits
Appropriate_Ad_1429@reddit
Ohhhhh you mean Europeans 🇪🇺✌️😎
Fearless_Nail_4627@reddit
Are you mad? "Moving there"? They are illegally breaking across the border. Crime rate has risen significantly because of third world illegals and they are also a burden on economy because state gives them 5 star hotels to stay in while veterans and local peaceful but homeless brits are struggling on the street.
Similar-Bar-3635@reddit
Did Britain sign all the right forms when it built that empire?
Appropriate_Ad_1429@reddit
Do you mean Europeans?
Fearless_Nail_4627@reddit
Different times, I condemn every act of violance and injustice done by the brits but that doesn't give rights to bad people to do bad stuff in our civilised society after this many years.
No-Cod9627@reddit
My bad, brits complaining about other people invading them will never not be funny to me.
Appropriate_Ad_1429@reddit
What country are you from?
Confident_Benefit_11@reddit
Americans doing this are even worse lmao
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
Where is this happening in America?
Important-Shame3690@reddit
He’s talking about people complaining, keep up buttercup.
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
There are protests against immigration in America? Where?
StucklnAWell@reddit
Well an entire administration was voted in on the premise of stopping certain demographics from immigrating...
JadedVeterinarian877@reddit
These people didn’t vote like this because of immigration. If you think people voted the way they voted because of immigration, you don’t actually understand American politics. It’s because stupidity creates angry people, and that’s it.
Capt_Murphy_@reddit
Stick to the story, chief. Your hate boner for America needs a rest.

Tuning in from scary Chicago... I can't imagine this happening here right now though
Appropriate_Ad_1429@reddit
Historically speaking the UK was colonised by the Romans before they moved on to other places in the world, I doubt the Saxons would have. I love how people recall history like that, it's so funny.
No-Cod9627@reddit
I feel like there could have been other more agreeable ways for pepper to proliferate but maybe I’m wrong. We’re all going to die one day, and for most people painfully. Honestly who cares what has happened in the world’s history, humans are dementedly evil monkeys, it was always going to brutal. That’s how I actually feel, but I just felt like taking time out of my day to make fun of brits 🤷♀️
Appropriate_Ad_1429@reddit
It's nothing personal but it does get my goat a little when history apparently begins with the British colonisation of the world when in reality it all started much earlier and the cause of the spread of Christianity from Rome, who cops no flack and is even revered for housing the pope! I mean, you want to talk about irony 😂 Enjoy your day people, you never know when it'll be your last ✌️😎
No-Cod9627@reddit
I mean, it’s all the same country of Europe.
Appropriate_Ad_1429@reddit
I see, it's Europe now it suits 🤔 So the Europeans bore the Americans good to know, I'll quote that in future 🇪🇺 😂

I wonder how they will feel when climate refugees start coming in because their homes have become inhospitable.
Eeny009@reddit
There's a movie that depicts it: Children of Men.
tomcat23@reddit
You should check out this french series from 2019 called 'The Collapse". Single camera, 8 episodes. It's VERY children of men and makes some interesting points. Oh yeah, on the internet archive too.

man, that movie is something else. realest scifi movie ever.

First half hour of that film is a glimpse into our future.
spinningcolours@reddit
When the AMOC collapses, they will be the climate refugees.
AnomalyNexus@reddit
Have a look at the full thermohaline circulation charted out.
Not sure why people associate it with the UK...if the AMOC collapses climate in every corner of the world turns into a dice roll. Thankfully not likely before end of the century...hopefully by then humanity has it's shit more together
-PM_ME_UR_SECRETS-@reddit
I think the US’s increase in border control is at least partially an attempt to prevent climate refugees from the South. The US will also have to deal with people within the US moving north. Idk how long it’ll take to get that bad but if the border interest is actually anticipation of climate refugees I can’t imagine it would be too far in the future
diedlikeCambyses@reddit
They already are. We just don't call it by its name. This was always going to be the case. Both America and Europe have climate refugees. Also, some conflict and economic refugees and migrants are in part, climate refugees aswell. They don't call climate the great aggrivator for nothing.
Sad-Bonus-9327@reddit
As I was a tourist in London earlier this year I casually spoke to locals who some of them were immigrants too and even a majority of those were against further immigration to the country which is crazy but somehow relatable considering the arguments they brought up
all-day-pj@reddit
As someone who has been a migrant and then decided to move on, going through an immigration system into a society that is weaponized against migrants is not a great position to be in.
And those who make it through the struggle are likely to feel defensive and protective. It's not on them to cause immigration change anyway, because it puts their own status at risk to be politically active.
diedlikeCambyses@reddit
It's a melting pot. You have everything from right wing losers, to genuine concern about numbers, infrastructure and that they know the government won't handle it well.
myaltrddtacct@reddit
The problem is the melting has stopped, some are trying to turn england into the countries they fled. That is the main issue not racism.
diedlikeCambyses@reddit
No I'm saying the protest is a melting pot.

Without immigration, their birth rate would be well below replacement levels.
Just like the US.
Unlike the US, they are a smaller country and have had a harder time encouraging the immigrant population to assimilate.
IcyRaccoon4101@reddit
Exactly! How else are massive corporations going to pay their shareholders without a constant supply of labor? Think about our billionaires!
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
The global demographics crisis is a real issue many people are ignoring, though... I believe it will have profound implications in our lifetimes.
CascadeNZ@reddit
We need an economic system that doesn’t rely on it
Tree_Socks@reddit
Shh you'll scare the billionaires
simpleisideal@reddit
Exactly. Everybody fleeing everywhere is a symptom of broken systems.
How about we try addressing the root causes for once?
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
Growth at all costs is out of hand, then we're going to have general purpose robots take over in 20 years.
AntiBoATX@reddit
But we must have replacement levels!!! Feed the beast!!!
billymumfreydownfall@reddit
The world's population has exploded to 8+ Billion people. There is no crisis.
werealldoomed47@reddit
That doesn't matter if immigration fears stop countries from taking advantage of the migratory issues to benefit a working class.
You could have 120 billion, and if they're all starving to death you couldn't even use them for food for the 8 billion that are fighting over the resources that could provide for 20 billion.
Cabal-Mage-of-Kmart@reddit
To build off your comment, it is a matter of who is moving where also. Without diving into specifics, there are entire nation's whose native population is at risk of being taken over by legal immigration from other powers as a single threat, on its own. This is not even looking at other deeper immigration issues as mentioned or even any other power struggle dynamics at the international or transnational level. There are several theories as to why it is happening, but once you see it, you cannot unseen it as they say.
Appropriate_Ad_1429@reddit
Yes and what's really hilarious about that is the governments of the world insisting that climate change is caused by the people polluting the Earth. The truth is the poles are going to reverse and North will be hot like the south and the south will be cold as the north. Since Milankovich' theory that there is an ice age every 43,000 years confirmed in 1978 by scientists who took core samples from Iceland and the Arctic. Shows that there's a cycle of weather outside the yearly seasons. By that reckoning the world is currently 11,000 years through the Earths cycle, we had winter-ice age, spring - temperate climate, now we move into summer- scorching hot for 11,000 years people, you won't need fake tans soon enough 😂 And the people who have migrated here will be the survivors because everywhere will be baron. Probably gonna sound crazy, but Nostradamus predicted this years ago, A mass exodus from the east, an underwater siege during Charles 3rd's Reign, the sea stained red from the blood of Christians and the ground scorched so severely that even the earthworms won't have roots to feed on. Sounds like fun, no?
werealldoomed47@reddit
Well said, and noted. Thanks for the perspective.
F6Collections@reddit
On track to decline-especially in the western world. Feel free to google it.
billymumfreydownfall@reddit
Just did, not expected to start declining for 60+ years where it is projected to be well over 10 billion. Again, we are fine.
anglenk@reddit
It does if you only look at certain populations. Crisis is there for people who only want 'country X' citizens in 'country X'. It's xenophobic at its core
F6Collections@reddit
Once the US goes back to a sane administration at least we will still have healthy immigration.
Still the best place to start a business and build wealth if you are young and want to work.
There will be repetitional damage from the orange pedo, but hopefully we put more guardrails in place to prevent this type of shit from happening again.
As for the UK it doesn’t look great.
Even Canada is in a pickle.
eat_my_ass_n_balls@reddit
“Back to a sane administration”
I got bad news for you dude, The Troubles have just begun
sopht@reddit
Democrats deport more than Republicans they're just far less vocal about it
The trajectory, though ....
eat_my_ass_n_balls@reddit
No they don’t.
You’re comparing numbers that aren’t the same. It’s ok. You’ve been lied to.
The “more deportations” comes because they counted as deportations people who were turned around at the border.
Ripping families apart is new and distinctly MAGA
Tutor_Worldly@reddit
That’s the thing though - “deport” is part of a legal process.
Grabbing someone off the street without even asking for papers and no recourse isn’t “deporting” - it’s just kidnapping.
Worried-Fee-736@reddit
Just because its dressed up in paperwork and bureaucracy doesnt make it less violent. Enforcing borders is inherently violent. The only real difference between democrats and republicans on deportations is republicans dont feel the need for smoke and mirrors anymore
FuzzzyRam@reddit
You're confused and that's ok, but rounding up US citizens and sending them to El Salvadore where you pose for pictures smiling at the implication that they're about to be tortured isn't exactly the same as the number of people Biden turned away at the border because he was actually following the laws on the books. You know perfectly well who wrote those laws that he followed.
F6Collections@reddit
Nah man. I’m extremely encouraged by the consistent protests I see in my local community, which is red and in the Deep South.
This has woken a lot of people up and I think there will be a greater interest in politics in the years to come.
We’ve been through worse and we can get through this.
I’m sure it didn’t look great in the long hot summer of the late 60s either.
werealldoomed47@reddit
I share your pessimistic Outlook comrade.
We are so fucked
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
Many places are in a pickle, it's all the same, "bring in cheap labor" and the effects are bleeding into society with everything from housing to stagnant wages while the rich get richer.
JeletonSkelly@reddit
Demographic decline only threatens economic models, which can just be changed.
Vegetable-Egg-1646@reddit
One of the single biggest reasons people don’t have more kids in the uk is the cost of housing. The law of supply and demand, more immigrants the more demand, the higher housing prices go to the point now where both adults have to work rather than one staying at home to look after the kids. Now they need child care so they can both work….
Immigration has been one of the single biggest causes of the collapse in birth rates. It is not the solution!
SouthernWindyTimes@reddit
The US plans to replace the birth rate losses by removing immigrants. Not even kids per capital, all reduce capital.
gabba_gubbe@reddit
Lol. That's the solution to everything? Becoming a minority in your own country?
BULLSHIT they don't want to assimilate! Same issue in Sweden, they get on government benefits and make ZERO efforts to contribute. Only ones doing so are some young people....
F6Collections@reddit
Then there should be greater efforts to help them assimilate…not like it’s an impossible task.
I have members of my community that have been here for 20+ years that are Chinese American, Korean American, Pakistani/Indian American, Russian American and so on.
I’ve got places in my state that are ethnic hubs that are hotspots for violence, they are places to get great food and products.
There’s always an upside to immigration, properly managed.
crusoe@reddit
The US was on the path to be the only western country with a positive population growth rate well into 2100...
Welp we fucked that up.
AwkwardTickler@reddit
Bunch of Lil babies. Probably contributes to why they will be replaced. Fearful o competition and effort. Weak.
dj_skittles24@reddit

Minimum-Ad-8056@reddit

Appropriate_Ad_1429@reddit
The UK has an area of 243,610 sq. Km, whereas America has an area of 9.8milluon sq. Km the US is 40 times bigger than the UK and 11 of it's states are larger than the total size of the UK. The UK is accepting roughly 1million refugees per year whereas America is deporting anyone who looks like they don't belong. I think your argument is defunct. The fact that people in the UK are demonstrating against a mass exodus of people to the UK when they are usually an accepting and welcoming people shows the scale of the problem. Services are struggling to cope with the influx and the rat population is out of control and largely due to the fact that some people don't know how to put rubbish in the bins and they shit in the streets. The recent rapes and attacks I'm sure are 'funny' too? In Nigeria the age of consent is 11 and that's not really consent is it? Anyone living in the UK who says they don't have any problem with the amount of refugees currently coming in are living under a rock or in a castle because it's bad in the schemes, I've moved my daughter out of one recently, it's so rough that people fear to leave their homes.
NoTerm3078@reddit
Thanks for providing this intel.
_MKVA_@reddit
I'm confused, they're AGAINST immigrants? For some reason I always assumed the English were more welcoming.. I guess racism is just everywhere huh?
Fubar14235@reddit
The title is misleading. People are marching against the amount of asylum seekers and illegal immigrants that we are putting up in hotels and homes of multiple occupation. There are actually legal immigrants marching and protesting too. I'm not one of those people that's saying turn them all away and let their boats sink but we do need to be in control of how many people we take in and house/fees for free, we can't just keep taking in hundreds of thousands of people every year.
fermented_logic7690@reddit
45k refugees per year is not hunderds of thousands.
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-ending-march-2025/how-many-people-are-granted-asylum-in-the-uk
For contrast the Netherlands takes in 74k per year
Fubar14235@reddit
Stats for asylum granted at initial decision... Hundreds of thousands arrive here and are housed and fed and not allowed to work. They can be in limbo for over a year and after all that time if they're denied they can still stay and appeal.
fermented_logic7690@reddit
True but the UK processes near half the amount of refugees as the country that prosseses the least amount of refugees per capita in the EU. Nearly every werstern country prosseses more refugees.
Equivalent-Solid3428@reddit
What's racist about wanting affordable homes and lower crime? UK and Australia are mass importing the 3rd world so the politicians housing portfolios can keep growing. Nobody on either side wants this and the government doesn't care.
_MKVA_@reddit
Why aren't they for immigration reform so that the increase in population and the allowance to move freely between countries opens your economy to rapid growth through production and trade?
Affordable homes and lower crime isn't an immigrant problem, it's a systemic one. Petty crime isn't a race issue, it's a poverty issue. Housing crises don't arise because of immigrants, they exist because of financial corruption and the accumulation of wealth and capital by an oppressive elite class.
Immigrants aren't your issue. Rich people are, but also probably that you're ignorant.
AntiBoATX@reddit
No one likes to be told “accept this weird new norm, which is worse than your old norm.. and btw these new people will have different beliefs and values and lifestyles which will conflict with yours.” Period.

_MKVA_@reddit
Sorry, obviously what I meant was that I didn't assume racism was as prevalent as it is in the US, or even moreso seeing as how they are obviously in greater numbers than I've ever seen racists organize in the states. Obviously.

Long_Walks_On_Beach5@reddit
Gee, so does that mean they're against "foreign interventions" where the UK backs the destruction of third world countries, thus creating instability where people have to flee their home countries? They weren't protesting to that extent when the UK was involved in wrecking several countries over the last 20 years.
Keep in mind Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and several other areas have had massive refugee outflows over the last 20 years due to Western regime change operations, and they show up in the UK since their countries have been wrecked.
Fast-Engineering9274@reddit
Tbf one of the biggest protests in UK history was against the Iraq war. I understand however that they're colonial history is a complex issue, but I don't think that destabilizing countries is the will of the people whereas removing illegal immigration is. It's not an issue with immigration in general but an issue with the illegals that are unregulated
Fubar14235@reddit
Well yeah we are against all that. We followed the US into the middle east time and again based on the same lies. A lot of us agree we never should have invaded looking for WMDs and it's ruined tony Blair's legacy who was actually a very good PM otherwise.

I’ve always wondered how they get these estimates of the number of people at protests. Do they just have people that are really good at guessing crowd size? Maybe they take a bunch of overhead pictures and sit there and try to count them? Perhaps they keep a bunch of random numbers in their ass that they can pull out at any time?
