Apparently, they did this as part of an initiative to reduce packaging waste. And also, you can get a crispier result using an air fryer-- and since the popularity of those have taken off in the past decade, they took away the sleeve and added air fryer cooking times.

I guess the verdict is still out whether an air fried hot pocket is better than a nuked one-- if anyone here has tried it, you're more than welcome to fill us in on your results!

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised. I think the new “quicker cooking time” they boast about is literally referring to subtracting the amount of time it took to put on/remove the sleeve (same idea as “FEWER STEPS”…presumably 2)…I still haven’t figured out why the change allows for 30% more pepperoni, though.
