Looks like Ethan Guo didn’t learn his lesson when filing flight plans.

Looks like Ethan Guo is released.
Looks like this kid still hasn’t learned his lesson of filing a flight plan and deviating from it completely just to fly to Antarctica. I think he should lose his license before he causes more problems in the sky if he keeps pulling this stunt.
TheRealWitchypoo4u@reddit
This kid disappeared . What did he see in Antarctica

Get lost
saml01@reddit
What happened to the plane?
avboden@reddit
Yeah that's what i'm curious about, feel like forfeiture of the plane should be part of this
Sizzle_Nasty@reddit
Stolen and held captive like they boy was. Boy was released and near death when released! Should have been congratulated fed warm bed full tank of fuel and sound his way!

Sell plane, split proceeds between both cancer organizations. Boom. Fight over.
Tazziedevil04@reddit
Actually I believe he had a valid flight-plan however declared an emergency and landed on the island
NeedleGunMonkey@reddit
He filed a flight plan to get approval to takeoff then departed from the flightplan on purpose claiming an emergency to achieve his own stated goals of touching every continent.
The folks who keep defending him are playing dumb.
Sizzle_Nasty@reddit
No you're the dumb one! You should go look in a mirror and slap yourself senseless for saying this nonsense! This incredible young man had a goal to be youngest to fly to all seven continents to raise money against cancer. When he landed in Antarctica he should have been given a warm meal a warm cot full tank of fuel congratulated for such an accomplishment and sent on his way! Instead he was held hostage tortured starved and nearly killed in the process! If you in front of me I'd probably slap you senseless!

Have you actually ready his case on this? It’s a bit more nuanced than that
notsoteenwitch@reddit
Buddy, it's obvious he did this for himself.
KnowledgeSafe3160@reddit
Didn’t he say he was gonna go land in Antarctica? I may be misremembering.
Sizzle_Nasty@reddit
Yes he did. You got these bitter old fucks on here mad at a young boys amazing Accomplishments! Antarctica's owned by no one! Even if you think you own something when you're dead you don't own Jack shit! This young man saw something he was supposed to was held captive nearly starved to death in heart failure when he was released and bribe for money had his plane stolen was near death! And these old fucks celebrated over it.
KnowledgeSafe3160@reddit
Man how did they let you out of the mental institution?
troglodyte@reddit
I think the whole argument is about whether or not he forced an emergency in order to land in Antarctica. I think he did say that he was going to land on all the continents, so I think the government case is that he filed a flight plan he didn't intend to follow and he intentionally diverted to claim the landing in Antarctica.
Could be wrong but that's always been my read. The whole story is shockingly murky.
midsprat123@reddit
He filed a flight plan that stayed in Chile, declared an emergency and diverted to an airport way farther south than his destination.
His original destination’s weather was clear and calm.
He abused the system and lied and is upset he got in trouble.
Gutter_Snoop@reddit
He 100% knew what he was doing, I agree. He should feel lucky that's all he ended up having to pay. Some other countries that could have ended up be jail time.
Instead, another spoiled twat gets to make money off doing twat things on the Internet.
CollegeStation17155@reddit
He declared an emergency and then bypassed half a dozen runways to reach the one in Antarctica he finally landed at.
Sizzle_Nasty@reddit
Was held captive starved heart was near failure nearly died and was near death on release! And you're okay with that I'm sure as well aren't you? Should have received a congratulations warm Mill warm cot full tank of fuel congratulated again maybe a meal for the road and sit on his way! Instead at his plane stolen Bride for 30k and nearly killed for an amazing accomplishment! Ya'll some sick fucks and got your priorities all fucked up!

Snooopineapple@reddit (OP)
Because of that he’s allowed to write up whatever flight plans and not follow it and then endanger other rescue personnel, or other aviation passenger plays because he flew wherever he wanted to? Maybe I should slap you senseless because you clearly don’t understand all rules are written by blood in aviation. And it’s idiot like these that kill others along the process, doesn’t matter what goals he has.
Sizzle_Nasty@reddit
Bull shit! Some sick old fucks on here talking shit about a young man that had a major accomplishment! This boy was basically kidnapped held for ransom tortured starved and released on near death and you're okay with that? You sir are the epitome and the problem of society these days unfortunately! Yes young man likely saw something he wasn't supposed to that's why I was held captive tortured starved near death had his Planes stolen then had to pay $30k in ransom probably had to sign something and swear that he wouldn't say anything of what he saw. And hear your dumb ass is trying to justify it shame on you!
Vinura@reddit
Fuck these people Im suing.
All this moron wanted to do was hit his goal of flying into random places to fulfill his little sidequest and he's annoyed that an independent country didn't let him just waltz into their airspace. Dude should have his license revoked.
Sizzle_Nasty@reddit
The moron is you buns! Your mouth needs to be revoked. Yes I'm that guy that would revoke it quick fast! You should go look in a mirror and slap yourself senseless for saying this nonsense! This incredible young man had a goal to be youngest to fly to all seven continents to raise money against cancer. notsoteenwitch@reddit
He also wants to continue flying for 'charity'.
NeedleGunMonkey@reddit
Practically all of these young aviation influencer types are rich brats making up stories and claims about altruism raise awareness but are just kids flying six figure toys and will act like it if you give them enough time in the spotlight.

The donation to Fundación Nuestros Hijos or a similar organization was required as part of the settlement. "A gesture of goodwill", my ass.
russellvt@reddit
There is possible ambiguity over the "required" idea ... it may have been "suggested," or he may have "offered" (eg..bribe)... it's not completely clear, from the various accounts I've read.
CerebralAccountant@reddit
I'm not sure where the ambiguity comes from; the announcement from the Chilean judiciary is in relatively plain Spanish.
My translation: In the ruling (case file 2.053-2025), judge Franco Reyes Pozo approved the alternative outcome under the conditions of [Ethan Guo] donating the sum of 30,000 dollars to Fundación Nuestros Hijos within the next 30 days, and in addition, a prohibition from entering national territory [the country of Chile] for a term of three years.
russellvt@reddit
They keyword there is "approved" ... which leaves it slightly ambiguous as to how the "penalty" was derived - which was my exact point.
RatherGoodDog@reddit
I'm sure the money will be well spent and absolutely not embezzled.
LeosK1ein@reddit
For a good cause though.
RatherGoodDog@reddit
Ah yes, because 100% of donations to charity foundations actually get used for helping people.
I'd like to know who runs that foundation.
_felixh_@reddit
Fallacy: just because not the full 100% of the money gets used to help people, doesn't mean the conclusion the Money will get embezzled is at all valid. The conclusion that you should not give Money to charities is faulty as well...

I helped organize a large aviation event in 2002 in honor of 9/11. Several hundred pilots involved and I organized 53 aircraft to fly from each state, DC, PR plus my aircraft. Each brought a donated state flag with them.
The Flight Across America got much local and national media attention. Our goal was a loose parade of planes go down the Hudson River, past Ground Zero and the Statue of Liberty and return to Caldwell, NJ. All the pilots and flags went to the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier in Manhattan for a large celebration event to present the flags to the people of NY.
The NYPD was against the parade flight. I had been negotiating the trip particulars with them for months, including getting background checks on all the pilots. One of the concessions was not to fly on 9/11. When I arrived the day before, they had additional demands, and threatened to impound all the aircraft if we didn’t agree.
We complied and had a great event.
All this to say: don’t fuck around with the government. They will win - always.
This kid knew exactly what he was doing and figured he could get away with it. But guess what - it’s Winter in Antarctica right now. It was dangerous. If his plane was busted on the way into Chile like he claims, it was irresponsible for him undertake any night flight, much less one so far away from his “planned” destination.
The Chilean government was rightfully upset that someone landed at their facility - just like the US government would be. Antarctica is fragile politically and the various countries there worry about incidents impacting their claims.
The kid was foolish - especially if he thought it would be no big deal to just pop in and fly out the next day.
His lawyer is doing great. They know the Chilean government isn’t going to say much - and certainly not on Instagram. So the kid and his lawyer get the write the narrative, unchallenged. He’s the good kid raising money for a cause - and the Chilean government as a bad meanie.
But the reality is that he’s an ambitious teenager, well funded, living a dream, and acting entitled. He should be saying, “I’m sorry, it won’t happen again”, but instead claims he’s being treated unfairly.
Unfair would have been prison time.
Gandor@reddit
What he’s saying is that I’m not doing anything illegal I just have brain dead ADM.
My god FAA please do something useful and revoke this guys license instead of going after people who went to a doctor once in their lives.
